Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom Cabin with Mountain Views

Our cabin is nestled in the majestic mountain terrain of Gallatin National Forest and is just twelve miles from Gardiner, a year round gateway to Yellowstone National Park. It is the perfect distance to be able to enjoy Yellowstone but be able to get away from the crowds. From The Lazy M Yellowstone National Park is a scenic 20-25 minute drive. Our cabin is 30 minutes from Chico Hot Springs, an hour from Livingston, and hour and a half from Bozeman Airport.

The cabin is adjacent to Cinnabar Creek, which is great for small trout fishing, and has a magnificent porch with Adirondack chairs to enjoy the beautiful mountain view. If you want to just sit back and relax you can spend hours sitting on the porch next to the creek drinking coffee or wine while reading one of our many books or just enjoying the peaceful environment. Watch deer, elk, and big horn sheep in the meadow out the front door, along the creek or on the nearby bluffs. Bears have also been seen from the porch and along the road. If you are really lucky you may even see a mountain lion. During the evening hours make sure to keep an ear open for howling wolves.

There is a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, pull out sleeper sofa in main cabin and a Tulikivi Fireplace.

This is a mountain cabin in the heart of Montana’s wilderness. While it has most of the amenities of home, it is still a rustic cabin. We have books, travel guides and games in the cabin. There is no TV or phone in the cabin.

About Emily Sherman, Paul & Laurel Koller

Paul and Emily purchased our property in 1994 after looking for a number of years. Emily's great grandfather had owned a general store next to the Crow Indian reservation in the 1890's. Her grandmother grew up in Anaconda, Montana. We have always enjoyed the landscape and dry mountain air of Montana. Paul and Emily had vacationed for many years in Yellowstone National Park before we purchased the LazyM. Day to day operation of the LazyM is done by Paul and Emily's daughter Laurel

Why Emily Sherman, Paul & Laurel Koller chose Yellowstone Country

We choose this location because of it's proximity to Yellowstone Park and the beautiful scenery of Paradise Valley while allowing us quiet seclusion when needed. We enjoy hiking, fishing and both downhill and cross country skiing.

What makes this cabin unique

Sitting on the porch or deck you have a wonderful view of Cinnabar mountain. At night you can sleep with the sound of the creek flowing by and enjoy the fresh mountain air. Our cabin was built in the 1950's and we have tried to preserve it's original charm. We have white pine floors in the main cabin and rustic kitchen cabinets.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A Secluded Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a wonderful time at this cabin. We arrived after four long days of traveling and were amazed how secluded and quaint the cabin was. It was very clean and uncluttered. There was plenty of room to be comfortable and a beautiful porch to sit and relax and just be. A stream next to the cabin sang us to sleep each night and a beautiful sunrise greeted us each morning. This was all we could have hoped for while visiting Yellowstone. It was recommended to us by our son, who stayed there two years ago, and we would definitely recommend it to anyone planning to visit in the future. We hope to get back there some day, but for now we have our beautiful pictures to enjoy of a perfect vacation and a perfect secluded, cozy cabin!

Great Yellowstone/Montana Getaway

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our weeklong stay at the Lazy M. The cabin was clean and very comfortable. Owners keep it pretty well stocked with many important items (books, maps, bear spray, pantry goods, etc) and the location is really nice.

While it may seem a bit difficult to find the first time you drive up the canyon, it's really a pretty short drive to Gardiner and the North Gate (~20 minutes of scenic Yellowstone river valley). Within a couple hours of most of the park attractions and lots of good hiking. A bit further to the Lake or to Old Faithful, and about 4 hours to Jackson depending on traffic and construction.

Word of advice - don't stock up on groceries in Bozeman or Livingston, wait and shop at the Gardiner Market. Very convenient, competitive prices, and lots of local meat as well as a great local beer selection. We even bought some frozen pork and bison and brought it back to AZ on the plane!

Overall great experience, with no problems or complaints.

Truly a mountain cabin

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful drive up a winding dirt road that follows the stream to this mountain retreat. Cozy, clean and rustic with a comfortable bed. The only reason we did not give it 5 stars is it was a bit inconvenient not having a sink in the bathroom, but we had a spectacular view while brushing our teeth! We went in spring and the stream was really moving! Loved falling asleep to the sound of rushing water.

Cozy Cabin

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I had a great mini vacation at the Lazy M Cabin-- Easy access to YNP for skiing and wolf watching, and a lovely, warm little home base to come back to. We were greeted by some mule deer, and had to move a few rocks out of the road to get out one morning, which just added to the adventure. The soap stone fireplace was warm; our dog loved sleeping in front of it. We used some of the books and pamphlets to help with our trips into the park. Laurel was very kind and thorough with the reservation. The neighbors were closer than we thought (as it says in other reviews) but we didn't see a soul the whole time we were there, except a car or two passing on our drive down the hill.

Secluded Cabin

  • 5 of 5

A quaint and secluded and spooky cabin in the wilderness. Enjoyed the drive up and past the cabin. Every thing needed on hand. Very clean and warm. Neighbors camper a little close. All in all a great experience. Enjoyed the two mule deer coming and going. Also the ewe big horn sheep at the end of the road. Thanks for a wonderful time. Bed very comfortable.
