Fab Villa. Wonderful garden and pool with stunning views.
Owners very helpful and friendly. We have had the most wonderful break.
Like staying in an amazing park
This is not a typical villa. Rather, it is an old house perched above the Ionian sea with great views of Etna. The house is nice but the thing that makes this place really special its classical garden, which is supersized with many different parts and beautifully planted and kept. It was once part of a large mansion, hence its size. We ate out in it every night. There's a car parking space and a short walk to Valverde which is a nice well-heeled village to the east of the Catania conurbation. We really liked staying in Valverde as it was very Italian and friendly with few tourists - although a short drive will take you to many places of interest, not least Etna itself, Catania, Acireale and Taormina. Nice organic-style pool, nice people - all was well. Any downsides? A local barking dog and small game shooters in the valley below, but somehow this was part of the experience. Mosquitoes as everywhere but hey... Would be very happy to come again.
Breathtaking. Anyone staying here is in for a treat. Photos don't do it justice.
This property was the most beautiful and spacious I have ever stayed in. My breath was taken away when the gate opened to reveal a huge garden with fountain, small pool, and views of Mount Etna and the coast. There were numerous tables and seats throughout the garden, enough to sit somewhere different for every meal, if you wanted to. We enjoyed evening barbecues, listening to owls and watching the moon rise over the sea. If this weren’t a holiday accommodation, I’m sure they could charge people just to visit and have drinks in the garden.
The house itself is large enough that we never used, or even saw all the rooms. It could definitely sleep an entire extended family, but we were comfortable there as a couple. The bedroom has windows that can be opened wide to let in the view and fresh air, and we didn’t encounter any mosquitoes in May. The bed was also very comfortable. There were two bathrooms, each with shower and bidet. The shower space was quite tight, but there is also an external shower for post-pool use. The living room was a grand space with frescoed ceiling, ancient tiled flooring, and comfortable seating. The kitchen was small, but suited our needs, and we cooked there often. The two doors give easy access to the garden and barbecue area, and there is a tiled area for laying out buffets and even a marble fish preparing area. We enjoyed the coffee machine and the American-sized refrigerator.
The property is completely secluded and mostly quiet. We were there on the local saint’s day and there were two colourful processions that passed right by the garden wall in the evenings. We are early risers, which is just as well, because the neighbour’s chainsawing and lawnmowing tended to take place in the cool hours before 8.00 a.m.
Our hosts (based in Catania) were very welcoming, helpful, and generous. One morning, we were brought a huge tray of traditional Sicilian pastries, still warm from the bakery. They were not on site but were easy to contact via phone app.
Valverde is very conveniently located to major attractions, but small enough to make the visitor feel like a local. We could stroll into town for gelato, pizza, or arancini, and there is a great family feeling each evening for the “passeggiata”. There are grocery stores, markets, and good restaurants very close by. We made trips by car each day. Acireale and the wonderful Cyclopean Islands are less than 10 km from the house and very worth visiting.
Lovely home in beautiful shady gardens with amazing views
Definitely not your average holiday villa. Set in lovely shady gardens with views to the coast and Etna, this was the perfect base to relax between expeditions.
A charming villa in idyllic gardens
Initially drawn to this villa by its beautiful gardens, we found them even more idyllic than the photos suggest. The pool, with its panoramic views to sparkling blue seas in one direction and towards a gently fuming Mount Etna in the other, is a perfect place to relax with sunny and shady spots throughout the day. Exploring the garden is a joy, with its many hidden corners, lush planting, huge and well-equipped eating and cooking area and majestic old pine trees. The villa, tucked under a canopy of greenery, is lovingly restored, comfortable and equipped with all the modern conveniences one could need for a family holiday. The location is ideal; a few minutes' walk from local shops and restaurants; within comfortable driving distance of shingly and rocky beaches to the east and north, and beautiful sandy beaches to the south; within easy exploring distance of the cities of Catania and Syracuse, hilltop towns such as Noto and, of course, Mount Etna.
Our hosts, Giancarlo and Alessandra, were delightful; thoughtful in providing a wealth of useful information in advance of our holiday, very kind and accommodating when our in-bound flight was delayed, and a pleasure to meet.
It is clear that this is a much-loved family holiday home. We are so fortunate to have had the chance to spend our holiday here and would recommend it without hesitation.
Fantastic property in most wonderful setting.
Top class in every respect. We were warmly welcomed by our hosts and given everything we needed for a perfect stay. Thank you
