Beachfront House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible Beds, 2 Baths. Sleeps 6.
Want a house on a sandy beach? This two bedroom two bath beachfront house is located in Makaha, about 29 miles from the airport and 40 miles from Honolulu/Waikiki. The weather in general in Makaha is the sunniest and driest on the island. At your home away from home you can watch turtles frolic in the surf line, watch the whales swim by from your window, take a romantic walk on the beach at sunset and fish and swim on your own sandy beach. Our beach house is in a private sheltered cove and one of only three houses with direct access to the beach on that side of the street. We are just a few minutes away from some of the most outstanding golf courses on Oahu. The water park is just a short drive away. Want to attend a luau? No problem, Paradise Cove is just a few minutes away by car. At our beach house you will have the option to experience Hawaii as it was 'back then' without the hustle and bustle of the city or experience both the city life and your very own Hawaiian retreat.
Unique Benefits of this House: The construction of this house allows you to have ocean as well as mountain views from every room. Even though it is a one level house, it is raised so that you can have an even better view of the majestic ocean below it. The kitchen has granite counter tops, beautiful wooden cabinets and new appliances. The house has been renovated inside and out. As you sit on your living room sofa, you might see a whale swim by because there is nothing between you and the ocean except the sandy white beach. Want a BBQ? You can fish for your dinner, walk a few steps and throw it on the BBQ grill in your patio or you could grill it on the beach while you watch the sunset. There are also two world class golf courses a few minutes drive away and one about 10 minutes away. The water park is also very near. Want to attend a luau? You will find one just a few minutes drive from where you are.
Mr. & Mrs. Aloha: This gated house is wonderful because we have an on site manager who considers it a privilege to host guest from all over the world. Herman and Julie are called Mr. and Mrs. Aloha because they love their job so much. They can answer all your questions and give you a wealth of information about the area. Our beach house is located on the west side of the island where it is sunnier and drier than any other place on Oahu. In fact, when it is raining on other places on the island, you will still be having the sun shine down on you. Because the sun sets on the west side of the island your days will be longer and sunnier which means you will be lounging on the beach longer & soaking up that sunshine so when you return home it will be with a beautiful tan. If you would like to stay at a retreat like beach house that is very private and peaceful, come to our beach house.
Why Our Beach House?: Our family inherited this property from our Aunt whose husband was a contractor and built this house many years ago. Because it is on the west coast of Oahu and one of the most beautiful places on the island, we decided to turn it into a vacation rental so that other people could enjoy the natural beauty of this unspoiled paradise as much as we do. We have renovated the house so that all our wonderful guests can experience the natural beauty of this island as well as the comfort of a retreat like home. Our house is located in a private cove where there are only two other houses with direct access to the beach on that side of the street. For that reason you will find very little local traffic, if any, on your own private beach. The house is also by a natural reef so that when you are snorkeling, you might get to see the local marine life up close. If you have any question please do not hesitate to contact me through this website. I will be happy to answer them anytime and would LOVE to have you stay with us.

Why Lynette chose Mākaha
Our family inherited this property from our Aunt whose husband was a contractor and built this house many years ago. Because it is on the west coast of Oahu and one of the most beautiful places on the island, we decided to turn it into a vacation rental so that other people could enjoy the natural beauty of this unspoiled paradise as much as we do. Although this house was built many years ago, we have totally renovated it so that our wonderful guest will have the benefit of the natural beauty of the land as well as the comfort of a retreat like home. Our beach house is located in a private cove where there are only two other houses with direct access to the beach on that side of the street. For that reason you will find very little local traffic, if any, on your own private beach. The house is also by a natural reef so that when you are snorkeling, you might get to see the local marine life up close. It is located on the west side of the island where it is sunnier and drier than any other place on Oahu. In fact, when it is raining on other places of the island, you will still be having the sun shine down upon you. Because the sun sets on the west side of the island, your days will be longer and sunnier which means you will be lounging on the beach longer soaking up that sunshine so that when you return home it will be with a beautiful tan.

I left my heart in Makaha
Where do I start...
First of all, the owner Lynette was wonderful throughout the whole process. Always available and prompt.
My husband and I traveled with our two children 12 and 9 along with my husbands parents 79 and 66.
We are an International family that wanted to find a place to relax and escape our busy lives.
We sure found it here.
I cannot call this a house, it is a home with so much warmth and character.
It is the ideal beach home, simple open airy with the ocean and mountains at every turn.
It felt like a fairy tale!
My Mother in law, who has traveled around the world said it was the best get away she has ever had.
My children played on the beach all day, every day with so many adventures to tell.
We kayaked on the waves, explored the cove, swam with turtles, boogie boarded...
All of the equipment is there for use.
We live in California, so we were 3 hours behind in Hawaii.
My husband and I woke at 6 every morning and swam in the ocean, it was amazing.
My Father in law lounged on the beach most of the time and absolutely loved it.
We made our meals at the home.
The stores in the area have fresh fish and every meal was delicious.
Herman and Julie are the caretakers of the property and live next door.
I felt like they were family, so kind and helpful with everything.
Advice on anything we needed,
Stories of the History of Hawaii and the foods...Wonderful!
We asked him about the coconuts in the trees on the property and when we came home in from the store he had cut down and prepared the coconuts for us to drink.
We bought some fish and Herman smoked it along with some chicken he had.
Made us some traditional dishes and shared them with us.
I can go on and on and on...
We are looking forward to coming back, just looking for time off.
Thank you Julie and Herman, A hui hou.
Gorgeous Views, Lovely Caretakers.
This beach house is a slice of heaven. The views of the ocean afford relaxation and happiness.
The beach lava rocks houses small crabs and other small aquatic creatures. During the early morning high tide a seal was fishing between the rocks. Late one night there were 8 head lamps shining under the surf, night time fisher man! All day long there were rock climbers on a cliff 100 yards away. Herman and Julie were very friendly and had good stories. Herman prepared fresh coconut milk for us!
There are not a lot of restaurants near by. And the "strays" further down on the beach were interesting. Neither of those things bothered us. We cooked breakfast every morning and experienced different parts of Oahu. After dining out we returned to a beautiful, private, secure beach house. Peace and Happiness, Mahalo!
Beautiful view with great people
Oh boy, where do I begin.... we've stayed here for 10 days.
First off, Herman and Julie are most wonderful people to be around.... Best care takers we've ever had in any properties we rented.. they made us feel like home and made meals for us one night(which were great), and when my wife asked about where to find live music near the house, Herman and his family members bough Guitar and Ukulele one night and did a Hawaiian music concert for us in the back yard, which was one of our favorite night at the house!!!! they kept the main areas outside clean and they are the most hardworking people with good heart!!
Anything we needed, they have provided us... they are most caring people I ever met in my life... When my grown kids needed something, they were always happy to help and try to get us what we needed... also showing us where the turtles hang out at and the mermaid's cave location that no one knows about....
House was clean when we got there and very comfortable.. there were few night it was humid but again, you are on the Island.. so we were okay with it...
After coming back to Snowy Virginia, we miss the house and the Hawaii really bad!!!! Wish we stayed for month...
I've read few people complaining about the homeless people near the house, But the homeless people are every where on the Island... And with the cost of living in HI, I can understand why there are so many homeless people around... they never bothered us... and it was not even an issue.. I've found out Most of the homeless people are registered with the state and even work full time jobs and they wear their ID's on them...
Grocery store Tamura 5 minutes down the house has a great Deli/prepared food section.. and all friendly there...
The Polynesian Cultural Center for Luau on the East side is well worth the trip you need to make... great presentation and shows... get the guided tour... Polynesian students around the Island work there for exchange for Free Bachelors Degree, Room and Board from the sale of the tickets and Its well worth what you pay for... Also, there is boat Harbor 5 minutes down from the house where you can get a ride on Whale, Dolphin watching rides as well as other fun activity rides... You have to buy tickets on line but the Harbor is only 5 mins down the road...
Lastly, Herman and Julie Again! We miss them already... they were almost like a family.... They took really good care of my family and looking forward to going back!!
Absolutely nothing makes us happier than to hear that you and your wonderful family had a great time. We are blessed to have visitors like you. Please come back and visit us anytime. We loved hosting your vacation.❤️😀
Great views, but..........
Property pictures and description are very accurate. Beach and surf are incredible. Great views everywhere. If you snorkel or surf you will be very happy here. This is not the high end resort hotels we are use to but doable. House is showing its age in and out but we were comfortable. Caretaker is always nearby, very nice and helpful.
Why did I give the property only three stars. The neighborhood is terrible. This entire part of the island is very low income and has a very very high homeless population. We had people living on the beach only two doors down. Many other nearby beaches had hundreds living out of junk cars and makeshift tents. You will not want to go out at night. If your a walker, forget it. Hotels and nice restaurants do not exist until you get all the way back to Honolulu.
Sorry to the owner, I realize the neighborhood is out of her control.
Thank you so much for your review, William. We are very happy that you enjoyed your stay at our house. Although we are not a high end resort hotel, we try our very best to make our Hawaiian beach home wonderful and enjoyable for all our visitors. I realize that you may be used to high end resorts but we like to market our home as a more local vacation experience. Many of our visitors have enjoyed their stay as you can see by the many positive reviews that we have received.
In regard to the area. Yes, there are homeless people in the area but unfortunately this is now a common problem thoughout Hawaii. Because Hawaii is blessed with beautiful weather and year round sunshine many people do choose to live by the beach. Even in Hawaii's most famous sightseeing spots like Waikiki, North Shore and Kailua, you will find this. It seems that this problem is prevalent not only in Hawaii but all over the world. I can however say that because we are one of only three homes on the side of the street that is actually directly on the water with a sandy beach right in front of it located in a cove like area, we are blessed with far less a problem than in most other places, very secluded. Hawaii's beaches are state property and sometimes fishermen do camp out. Additionally, we have a lovely on-site caretaker who is very watchful and provides added security for our visitors.
In regard to nice restaurants and hotels, the Aulani (Disneyland Resort) is 11.1 miles away. The KoOlina Resort is 12.7 miles down the road. If you want to go to a nice restaurant, Kapolei (Our 2nd City) is 15 miles down the road and there are many, many high end as well as local style restaurants available for you to choose. Kapolei also has a shopping center and theaters for you to enjoy. Right down the road about 3 to 5 minutes away there are lots of local style restaurants for your choosing. I so wish that you had asked Herman, our caretaker for information on what things were available to you. Although it sounds as if you might have just chosen to kick back, chill and enjoy a lovely sunset BBQ dinner on the beach. Which would have made us very happy.
Thank you so much for choosing to stay with us. We may not be the high end resort type hotel you are used to but we believe that we offer an experience that is unique and equally enjoyable. I have just left a folder at the house with suggestions of available eating places and other activities since that might be helpful for our future guests.
Super clean. Great beach access.
We stayed here with out 1, 3, 5, 10, and 11 year olds for 10 days. The house was very clean and comfortable. The owner was extremely responsive to our needs. We had a small problem with the toilet and the plumber was there that same day. There were extra cot mattresses and the pull out couch was plenty comfortable. The owner also arranged for more chairs to be brought in to the dining area so we could seat our family at the table. We were a bit nervous about the stairs with our one year old but we were able to move the couch so it blocked the stairs and that worked great. It was really nice to snorkel right on the beach behind the house. The house comes with beach toys, chairs, and boogie boards. We brought our own snorkels but they have plenty on site to use as well.
Thank you for a wonderful vacation!
We loved our stay
we (four of us) had a wonderful time. Property is comfortable and well equipped; however a portable a/c unit for each bedroom would greatly enhance the comfort of the house. Herman and Julie are wonderful, helpful and knowledgeable caretakers, keep them!!!
Looking forward to planning our next trip to Hawaii.
Thank you so very much and we are glad you enjoyed your vacation. We prefer not to have air condition so as our guest can enjoy the natural trade winds and the relaxing sounds of the ocean. That is why we have instead chosen to use both ceiling and floor fans in the rooms. We are so honored that you have chosen to stay with us and would love for you to come back anytime. A big Aloha and Mahalo to your lovely family. Please consider us your home away from home.
We are a beach front with ocean property, so you will have lots of sand to lay on to get your beautiful tan 24/7 all year round. White sandy beach is just 10 steps away from your door. Golf: There are three world class golf courses very near to our beach house. The Ko Olina golf course is Oahu's premier Ocean View Championship Golf Course designed by Ted Robinson. It is an 18 Hole Championship Golf Course which provides exceptional water features, multi tiered greens, expansive landing areas, no parallel fairways and measures up to 6,867 yards from the back tees. It is a 10 minute drive from our house. The Makaha Resort Golf Course is about 2 minutes away by car. This golf course was designed by William F. Bell to accent the stunning natural landscape of Makaha Valley. This championship course was acclaimed for its beauty as much as its rigor by Golf Digest, and was named the Island's best course by Honolulu Magazine. This classic 18 hole, 7,077 yard, par 72 course calls for a variety of shots and just about every club in your bag. With a USGA rating of 73.2 it challenges professionals and amateurs alike. Those with a sense of history will delight knowing that Hawaii's royalty used Makaha Valley for their recreation. The peacocks seen and heard throughout the valley were a gift from King Kalaukaua to the owner of the historic Makaha Valley Ranch more than 100 years ago.
