Walk two minutes to Hotel Capitan Suizo and its world-class restaurant or walk ten minutes to the heart of Tamarindo for shops, restaurants and night life. Best of all, from the Rancho of Casa Doshack, you can look out over the whole of Tamarindo Bay to check out the waves, watch the fishing fleet go out and return each day or simply read, relax and monitor the daily activity of the beach. Your faithful companion will be Missy, a white lab still in her puppy years. Besides delighting our guests she guards Casa Doshack against home invasions...by raccoons!

About Kathy Doshack
My name is Kathy Doshack and I have lived in Tamarindo since 1991. I am fortunate to have my daughter, Donna, living nearby and two lovely Costa Rican granddaughters. I have been involved in Tamarindo community organizations for many years and in addition participate in a local art group, walk the beach every morning and regularly walk the hills surrounding Tamarindo.
Kathy Doshack purchased this House in 1991
Why Kathy Doshack chose Playa Langosta
I retired to Costa Rica in 1991 settling in Tamarindo when it was still a sleepy fishing village. Although Tamarindo has developed since then offering a wide range of services, the beach itself remains the same, timeless and beautiful. I love the fresh air, warm days and nights and the variety of flora and fauna available here.
What makes this House unique
Hanging out at the Rancho is a singular experience. Restful, swinging in the hammock reading a book or watching the world go by on the beach just a few feet below. This vantage point allows for bird watching, iguana sightings and monitoring of the fishing boats going to and fro.

My girlfriends and I heard of Casa Doshack from a friend, so we decided to take a girls trip. Everything we were told did not do this wonderful place justice. Casa Doshack is so much more. Perfectly located to town and right up from the beach. Waking up every morning to look out at the ocean was amazing. Even so far away from home, it felt like I was home here. Relaxing in the hamocs was blissful. Missy the house dog was an absolute delight and so well behaved. Loved taking her on her "Missy walks" in the morning to the beach to play ball. Ileana was great, she kept the house tidy for us, although we did not partake in her cooking, she did do laundry for us. It was nice to leave and come home to have the laundry cleaned and folded waiting for you. Jose (Macho) was our driver from the airport. He is wonderful. Not only did we feel safe riding with him. We called him for almost all of our excursions. He helped set them up with other people or with himself. He brought a great guide nicknamed Duck. He was very knowledgable on Costarican cultural and history. These two made a great pair for our excursions to Ricon De La Veja National Forest, where we white water tubed, zip lined, horseback rode, and relaxed in warm baths. And with all that lunch was provided. Jose and Duck also took us on a coffee, chocolate and sugar cane tour and to a beautiful waterfall. Jose even drove us to Diamante Eco Adventure Park for the day for more fun zip lining, the animal sancturary, beach and also lunch. If you go down to Costa Rica, this is a must stay. Kathy, the owner, is fantastic and so helpful. Jose will assist in whatever fun you are wanting to do, he seems to know everyone. Other than all these wonderful, happy, and helpful people. The locals in town are all friendly too. The food was fantastic, I would highly recommend Nogui's, Enea's (authentic Italian food) order the Eggplant Parmignia. Cafe Tico's is great for breakfast. Also for a nice night out for dinner Capitan Suizo was absolutely delicious and right next door. We also had fantastic relaxing massages on the beach there. Both require reservations but well worth it.
I would recommend this wonderful little place to everyone. Kathy and her staff are superb and made our trip feel like we were welcome and home. Definitely call Jose for any fun excursions. I hope to make it back to Casa Doshack in the future. Thank you Kathy for having this peaceful, beautiful place to make our trip so enjoyable. You all are the best
Thank you so much for your wonderful review. Part of what made your trip special was the fact that you and your friends were open to all the new experiences available to you. You did it all. Kathy
Wonderful place to stay for a few weeks
This was our first just retired hang out vacation, and this location was perfect. There were 3 couples, and the house offered privacy between bedrooms, a bath per couple, and a wonderful deck. Walking across the yard to the hut provided many hours of stunning views of the bay, shade, and cooling breezes. Take advantage of the wonderful meals that can be cooked by your housekeeper, we all thought this was the best Costa Rican cooking we had during the vacation. The location is well situated at the far end of Tamirindo Beach cutting down on the crowds (and beach vendors). but still an easy walk to town, restaurants, and shopping. The walk can be along the beach when the tide is low, and down well lit streets at high tide. Most nights and many lunches we strolled down the beach picking out a new place to try, and best of all what music we wanted to listen to, as many of the places had music after 4:00. The kitchen in the house was well equipped if you want to do more of your own cooking, or heat up the leftovers you brought home the night before. My husband really enjoyed the house white lab Missy. The dog was well behaved, taken care of by the gardener, but lived on the deck, loved taking beach walks and playing catch. The bedrooms have air conditioning, making sleeping very comfortable. The only downside was no pool like you might get with a hotel or condo, but there are beach clubs that let you use their facilities for a day if you want a pool day. For us, the proximity to the beach was what we were looking for, and this home delivers.
Our experiences staying at Kathy's Casa Doshack exceeded our groups expectations.
We were looking for an experience not tied to an all inclusive or large resort or even a boutique hotel and we were well directed.
My communications and information from Kathy prior to our trip proved to be always timely and useful.
Reiterating what the previous review stated, the location is ideal to get away from the spring breakers, noise and activities of Tamarindo. Sitting up high gave spectacular views, and access to beach and town was very easy. We rented a golf cart to make runs into town that much easier.
The house and grounds were immaculate, with Ileana and Manuel always so helpful. Missy, the resident lab, kept us entertained and exercised on the beach, and was a bit of home away from home.
We utilized the well appointed kitchen, enjoyed the ocean overlooking Ranchero, and found the beds were very comfortable. Bathrooms were always kept clean and showers felt so good after a long day in the sun and water. We spent considerable time on the fan cooled lanai being watched over by monkeys, iguanas, and colorful birds. Boogie boards were available for use and the outside shower was refreshing after all the salt and sand.
Donna, Kathy's daughter, was also there to assist us in all requests.
I wanted to keep this secret place all to myself, but it is so good that it is worth sharing the experience and referral with all of you.
Thank you Kathy, Donna, and Missy for a spectacular time at your Casa!
We have traveled extensively throughout the Caribbean (and worldwide) and can say that Casa Doshack is about as good as it gets for vacation rentals in this price range. The view is magnificent, and the location, just south of the Tamarindo downtown, gets you away from the noise and bustle, but with just a short walk to take part in the action. The beautiful beaches to the north (Playa Grande) and south (Langosta) allow for miles of uninterrupted walking, and if you take Missy the dog, you'll have a great time throwing balls and coconuts for her. She was a highlight of our holiday.
The house is very well equipped with excellent cooking facilities. The bedrooms and bathrooms are comfortable and spacious, and the separate apartment is great as a teenage hang-out. Illeana, the maid, and Manuel, the gardener, are lovely people and take great care of the property. Kathy, the owner, is very considerate and responds quickly to any issues. She provided a lounger within a few minutes of me requesting one by email. Wonderful service!
10 days was not enough to appreciate all that the area had to offer so we will be back next year for sure.
You can't go wrong with this place.
Best view in Tamarindo
Enjoy an unbelievable view while you relax on the wrap around veranda steps from la playa. The house was perfect and the small apartment was great for teenagers. The owner was easily reached for assistance. We would highly recommend this property for a Tamarindo visit
Congratulations! If you are reading this review, you have just made the best discovery you will ever make. My husband and I found Casa Doshack four years ago, and we have returned for longer and longer stays each winter since that time. It is truly a perfect little cottage in the midst of a tropical paradise.
Located directly on the quiet end of a long, beautiful beach, Casa Doshack has been (and will continue to be) a wonderful place for us to relax, recharge, and enjoy a peaceful break from our busy lives at home. Here is a sample of our typical day at Casa Doshack: We rise early and take a run or walk on the approximately 1½ mile beach, which is nearly deserted at sunrise. Then we drink coffee and visit as we sit in rocking chairs on the veranda, which looks out over the ocean. We spend the mornings reading or writing or taking pictures of the exotic wildlife, which surrounds us in the beautiful garden. We usually go for a swim in the ocean or take another walk along the beach. Then we prepare lunch in our fully-equipped kitchen and eat at the big table on the veranda, or we wander down the beach to one of the many restaurants in Tamarindo.
After lunch, we have time for more reading or we take a snooze in one of the hammocks in the lanai on the edge of the property overlooking the beach. Sometimes we go on an excursion in the afternoon, or we stroll into town to pick up groceries, visit the Farmer’s Market, or shop at the many boutiques and gift stores lining the streets of Tamarindo. We always make time for another swim and another walk. At dusk we make our way to the beach for a view of the gorgeous sunset.
In the evening, we prepare dinner on the grill and dine on the veranda or stroll along the beach one more time for dinner at a restaurant. We look forward to settling into our comfy bed where the sound of the ocean and the feel of the breeze lulls us to sleep.
Kathy Doshack, the owner of Casa Doshack, goes out of her way to take care of her guests, arranging activities and transportation and offering great advice and information. Her cheerful housekeeper Illeana keeps the house in order and will cook wonderful Costa Rican meals upon request. The friendly gardener Manuel entertains us as he maintains the pristine garden.
To give an adequate description of the virtues of this wonderful place would take many more paragraphs, but you really need to experience Casa Doshack for yourself to understand its magic.
