About the property

DRUMKEERAN HOUSE ON IVEY LAKE, PEMBERTON, B.C.

Designed by leading architect, Ted Murray, and built by local log builders and craftsmen, Drumkeeran House is a classic example of the revival of the use of square-cut dovetail chinked logs hewn from British Columbia’s massive Western Red Cedars.

Strikingly set on the headland point of Ivey Lake, a trophy fly-fishing lake, the private five acre estate of Drumkeeran is blessed with a stunning and unforgettable country location.

The estate lands boast over 800 feet of waterfront with private dock and are richly forested with mature fir, cedar, hemlock, pine, birch, maple and wild dogwood. Local wildlife abounds and you may see black bear, mule deer, rabbit, squirrel, chipmunk, eagles, hawks, ducks, woodpeckers, a profusion of songbirds and, of course, fish.

A small house on the property, Ardbeg Cottage, is the home of a full-time caretaker/concierge to take care of the house and grounds and ensure that every need of the guests at Drumkeeran House is looked after.

The lodge has a Canada Select Accommodation 5 Star rating and VRBO Luxury rating and features:

Accommodation for up to 14 persons in six ensuite bedrooms, each with their own lake or forest views, and a sofa bed loft. Three bedrooms qualify as master bedrooms, each with their own lake view decks.

All ensuites with under floor heating and marble, travertine or stone tiling;

A magnificent vaulted Great Hall with baronial-style open fireplace;

A full Country Kitchen suitable for professional event catering and featuring top-of-the-line stainless steel appliances and granite countertops;

Open dining room with adjoining deck area for al fresco entertaining;

A second vaulted family recreation room with wood-burning stove, 3D HDTV system, bar and additional kitchen.

A spacious billiard room and library suitable for meetings or small study groups;

Laundry room with washer and dryer

First growth reclaimed Douglas Fir flooring throughout;

Fully appointed with fine furniture, antiques and a rare collection of original North West aboriginal, Canadian and European art;

8 person outdoor spa hot tub

Outdoor BBQ

With the large number of attractions within a relatively short car journey from Drumkeeran House, it can easily act as the ideal base to explore a vast region of British Columbia. Its relative proximity to Whistler and to the Lower Mainland offers international travelers in particular the opportunity to sample the varied attraction of the Province with relative ease.

Summer activities include golf, fishing, hiking, mountain climbing, bike riding, horse riding, glacier flights, gliding, canoeing, kayaking, white water rafting, and swimming.

Winter activities include cross-country ski-ing, heli-skiing, snow mobiling, ice climbing and snow shoeing.Downhill ski-ing and snow boarding at Whistler (45 minutes to the ski-lifts).

As a special winter wonderland bonus, there are usually several weeks where Ivey Lake itself is frozen so as to allow for a range of activities on the ice right at Drumkeeran House.

The lakeside setting gives guests the opportunity to take advantage of the fact that Ivey Lake is the only trophy fly-fishing lake in the Lower Mainland area of British Columbia. In addition, Drumkeeran House provides ideal quarters from which to set out and fish literally dozens of nearby rivers and lakes.

Gorgeous and well appointed home - great for a gathering!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time staying at the Drumkeeran House. We had a group of about 14 people, mostly couples in their 30s, and found comfortable accommodation for everyone. The property is beautiful and the instructions from the hosts, coupled with the briefing from the very helpful caretaker Lindsey, were thorough and helpful. We would absolutely go back!

Pros:

- The written description is absolutely accurate and the place is gorgeous and suitable for groups or families

- Snow plow came in the middle of the night during an 8 inch snow and cleared the driveway, so we could safely escape in the morning for skiing

- Nice parking area and 'turnaround' for multiple cars

- Lindsey (caretaker) was very responsive and helpful

- Hosts were communicative prior to arrival and addressed and questions and concerns

- Nice views from all over including the lakefront

- Two additional King Size beds in a basement room (not official bedroom due to lack of egress most likely)

- The 'additional kitchen' is nothing to sneeze at, it has a full bar area with great counter space, a wine fridge, and a small 'beer fridge'

- Great hot tub

- Private and quiet

- Cool historical plaque next to the fireplace indicating Winston Churchill likely hung out by it (yay history!)

- Tons of firewood for the multiple fireplaces

- Power went out for a few minutes (apparently common but only happened for 15 mins during our stay) and there were TONS of available flashlights

Cons:

- A 'fake' con here is that the pictures do not do the property justice! There is indeed a 6-8 person hot tub and large bedrooms plus huge common spaces! The rich description they provide is completely accurate and I would suggest to the hosts to include pictures of all bedrooms and common areas described as we didn't quite believe the place could be as great as it was!

- In the winter, when the 'shortcut' road is impassable, this place is pretty far from Whistler mountain (40-45 mins) for skiing purposes. It is a solid 15-20 mins to the town of Pemberton (7-10 mins to Mount Currie). This was fine for us as we shopped and mostly cooked at home, but don't plan to walk /short drive to civilization or get food delivered! Looking forward to trying it out in the summer when the country road is passable which should shorten the drive time significantly, and when our activities don't revolve so much around Whistler Mountain.

Great House to Stay In

  • 5 of 5

We had a great skiing vacation. This is our 7th family get together to ski with all of our kids and Grand kids. The house went well with our 11 family members. It was big enough that every one had their own bedroom and bathroom. Great scenery and the caretaker that overlooked the house while we were there did a great job of proving some Christmas goodies for us to snack on. Well worth the money that we spent. Recommend this house for big families.

Magical lodge and beautiful/perfect location. Can’t wait to experience it during all four seasons!

  • 5 of 5

This place exceeded all expectations and was the best stay away from home we’ve ever experienced. It was almost castle like...so beautiful yet also very cozy. Nice touches everywhere you look actually.

David and Maureen and caretaker/manager Lindsey have thought of everything and truly outdone themselves. It’s cozy but really magnificent. If you have five couples and two singles , each group of two will have their own private bathroom - we thought this was really great and luxurious.

The hot tub was a huge hit and so were the fire places and the bar . Pool table awesome feature too.

It was great exploring outside and kayaking . There are canoes too!

We cooked up a storm and there were several of us in kitchen at once but it was so roomy and the kitchen is so professional that it was no problem at all. Loved the ovens...and even the microwave was fancy and fun and easy to use.

My husband and I now think this is Pemberton’s best kept secret and I would highly recommend it for a peaceful getaway . Would be so great for a family reunion or a wedding . Or just get a group of your favorite people together which is what we did. It was November when we went and it was beautiful. There’s a lot of amazing things to see and do in pemberton and surrounding areas but the lodge is so nice you don’t want to leave it !

Also, sometimes when traveling I get so irritated by the soaps and detergents that are used . Sometimes things are really heavily fragranced and super synthetic smelling and migraine inducing. This place was perfect . Huge relief! Spotless and perfectly clean but not in the least bit perfumey or aggravating (like bleachy) smelling . I appreciated that so much. Hope they keep using whatever cleaning products they’re using now.

Five stars ! Can’t wait til next visit . We’re excited to try fishing next time as well as trying out the BBQ. David, Maureen and Lindsey are all great communicators so they’ll answer all of your questions promptly . Zero complaints.

An great lodge constructed and furnished with much attention to appearance and comfort. Even with a guest in every bed no one is crowded and all can be at ease.

Gorgeous Lakefront Home!

  • 5 of 5

David and Maureen's Lakefront home is beautiful. The property is spacious and very private with only minor glimpses of any neighbours when at the lake. Lindsey the house caretaker, maintains and cleans the house well, parallels to same type of standards like Westin, Hilton, Trump brands. Even the quality of the bed, bedding and towels are high end. I wasn't able to find even a tiny stain on any linen or towels. The rental price for this home is very reasonable especially if its split between 2-3 families. If you split by 4-5(having the kids sleep in the extra room in the basement), you get exceptionally good value out of this rental. Honestly its a no brainer for me to rent here again if we are spending 3-4N in the Pemberton area.

The house was plenty big enough for our party of 11 guest. All bedrooms have their own ensuite and even an extra bedroom in basement if you have even more guest (although that room would need to share a bathroom). The house has everything minus food and drinks and I really mean everything.

There are many amenities included with this rental. 3 Kayaks, a canoe, games, books, pools table, hot tub, etc. There was enough things to do on this property even when we couldn't land a fish. One of us did hook onto a decent sized trout but it ran under the dock and snagged the line.

There is only one improvement I can suggest for this house is to build a dock directly near the house. We personally had zero issues with the 2 minute walk to its dock but maybe some seniors with some mobility issues would have some difficulties accessing the nice dock.

Take it from our rental review that you do not need to browse VRBO website any more. If this rental is available for your dates, reserve it!
