Perfect place to stay near Hana!

  • 5 of 5

This is a great place to stay near Hana! We wanted to take more time to do Road to Hana so we stayed here for a night. Terry is very friendly and makes you feel at home. She greets you with farm fresh eggs for the next morning, gives a tour around the cottage and answers any questions you have. She also gave us great suggestions of places to stop. The cottage is quite large, has a great view of the ocean and a great botanical garden to wander around during your stay. A cute bonus/addition is an outdoor shower!

Perfect place to getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Perfect place to getaway! Extremely clean and well tended. This perched-on-a-hillside cottage has an ocean view from wraparound porches and an outdoor shower. Very private. The kitchen is stocked with all the utensils and pots and pans you might need, as Hana does not have a plethora of places to eat. (Make sure you stop at Costco and stock up on food before you go.) Karen has beach chairs and beach towels to use for a trip to either black beach (very crowded) or Hamoa which was low key and local feeling without a lot of tourists. Karen thank you for your suggestions. We enjoyed the privacy, the views, Hawaiian music CDs and relaxing on the comfortable couch reading after exploring. If you want to get away, this is the place.

Quiet, Secluded, Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

If you want quiet, secluded and peaceful... this is the place! We stayed for 3 nights so that we could take in the magic of Hana and not feel rushed. It's one of the best decisions that we made when planning our trip. The house is situated high on the mountain side of the road just north of Hana and gives you the best of the tropical green mountain along with views of the ocean. It is the only house on the property so it's very secluded and feels very safe. It is very clean and comfortable and had all the amenities that we needed to cook, relax and take in the surroundings.

The owner was very helpful.

This is truly a hidden gem.

Secluded with Amazing Views

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were only able to stay at Mack's Shack for one night! This house was perfect! We explored the Road to Hana, and arrived at the house at about 3:30pm. We decided to go further on the road to see the Pools of Oheo which is about 45 minutes further down the road. This is were the interior fresh waterfalls meet the Pacific Ocean - quite a site). We got back to the cabin at about 6:30, had dinner and relaxed! The cabin is very private and secluded. There is a stream which runs by the bedroom window, providing a pleasant gurgling all night. We also had rain showers all night! In the morning we had coffee on the wrap around porch, chatted and read before continuing the next leg of our journey. Totally enjoyed Mack's Shack.
