Why Emma Blackburn chose Whitchurch Canonicorum
In the heart of the West Dorset countryside yet only minutes from the beaches of the Jurassic coastline and Heritage Coast footpaths, Befferlands Cottage combines the best of both. Located amid the rolling hills of the Marshwood Vale – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – there are views of open farmland and plenty of walks along lanes, woods and riverside literally from the front door and across both West Dorset and East Devon. You can walk from the front door of the cottage to the beach in around 30 minutes. In the nearby village of Whitchurch Canonicorum, St Candida’s Church is the only church in England, other than Westminster Abbey, that retains the original medieval shrine and relics of the saint to whom it is dedicated. Befferlands Cottage is a converted two story barn which provides a wonderful and peaceful rural retreat for couples or a family. The well appointed interior benefits from a very spacious sitting room with high vaulted ceilings which leads to an open plan fully equipped kitchen and dining area. The sitting room benefits from a huge picture window which allows light to flood in and the kitchen has the advantage of a stable door. There are two stylish bedrooms both of which benefit from their own bathrroms. A double with an ensuite bathroom with both bath and shower and a twin room with its own bathroom right next door, again with bath and shower. Both bedrooms are recently refurbished and have ample wardrobe space. The cottage has its own parking and a small private garden perfect for a barbeque. Charmouth is a beautiful seaside village, world famous for fossil hunting and guided fossil hunts are available. West Bay (Bridport) is 7 miles away where both mackerel and crab fishing can be had along with rib and speedboat trips to and from Lyme Regis. Charmouth offers a chemist, small supermarket, butcher, bakery, post offi

A lovely, relaxed holiday. Close to many beaches and countryside.
The converted barn was really spacious. It had everything we needed. Bedrooms well positioned to give privacy and being downstairs they stayed cooler and both rooms had full size bathrooms. Upstairs had an open plan lounge with large windows overlooking fields . This opened to the kitchen dining room. Dishwasher, full size cooker, microwave. Lots of pots and pans. Downstairs was a washing machine .
Lovely walks . Anna and her husband were there to greet us with home made biscuits fresh eggs and milk . Fresh cut flowers on the table. The linen on the beds were beautiful white cotton and huge fluffy towels. Very comfortable beds . We took our young dogs with us and we were made to feel very welcome at the farm and in all the pubs it's very dog friendly in Dorset.
Lovely comfortable stay
The reason for staying was to visit the River Cottage Cafe which is 10 minutes drive away. Warm greeting by the owners. Very helpful even offered to take us to the River Cottage if the taxi was too expensive!
Lovely cottage well equipped and comfortable. Milk eggs and delicious flapjacks on arrival.
Would definitely recommend.
Thank you so much for coming to stay at Befferlands Cottage and we're so glad that you enjoyed your stay and enjoyed the flapjacks! Hope to see you again in the future!
Lovely cottage very comfortable and close to the coast
Lovely cottage, really comfy beds and bedding. Cosy on nippy evenings. Everything you could need and lovely welcome of milk, cake and eggs. Thank you Anna
Peaceful location, characterful property, lovely walks, comfortable beds and attentive owners.
Lovely spacious barn which suited us with a dog. Lovely area and Anna and Gerald were there at the drop of a hat.
Enjoyable short break in barn conversion
Very enjoyable short break in this barn conversion - beautifully done, very comfortable and well equipped. The friendly Owners live in farm house next door but the set up is such that neither property really encroaches on the other. Provisions of milk, eggs and home-made shortcake provided on arrival, plus a small vase of welcoming flowers. Only a short distance away from the A35 (but no traffic noise from that), so convenient for visiting the local towns of Charmouth, Lyme Regis and Bridport, and the coast is very accessible. We walked across fields to the nearest village of Whitchurch Canonicorum which has a pub, although can't report on it as we didn't visit. We mostly ate in, but there seems to be plenty of places for eating out a short drive away. Have already recommended to friends.
Lovely stay at Befferlands Cottage. Nicely furnished and equipped with everything you require to make you feel at home. There weren't many detached properties available when I was searching in March; this was a gem to find.
The location is close to the beach and Lyme Regis via car. A very welcoming and friendly community.
Charmouth is a beautiful seaside village, world famous for fossil hunting and guided fossil hunts are available. West Bay (Bridport) is 7 miles away where both mackerel and crab fishing can be had along with rib and speedboat trips to and from Lyme Regis.
Charmouth offers a chemist, small supermarket, butcher, bakery, post office, General Stores, restaurants, hairdresser, gift and ice cream shops with a speciality fossil shop directly at the beach along with a coastal heritage centre. There are also two pubs.
Befferlands Cottage is well placed for two fantastic farm shops, to the west on the A35 to Bridport is Felicitys Farm Shops with a wide range of local products and to the east on the A35 to Honiton is Millers which offers fabulous fresh produce and is a veritable emporium of French provisions.
The attractive seaside resort of Lyme Regis is close by with its sandy beach, historic harbor and many shops and restaurants. River Cottage HQ is a very short drive away and offers amazing cookery courses or if you would rather not cook yourself visit the River Cottage Canteen in nearby Axminster!
Restaurants in the area include Mark Hix Oyster House in Lyme Regis; Watch House Café in West Bay, Brassica in Beaminster, River Cottage Canteen in Axminster and The Riverside in West Bay. Also worth mentioning are The Anchor in Seatown, Down House Farm in Higher Eype, Soulshine Café in Bridport, The Olive Tree in Bridport and the Stable Pizzeria in Bridport.
