Farmstay, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, (Sleeps 8)
About Eileen Ferris
I live on site at Makarora River Ranch and together with my husband Craig, we manage the accommodation as well as the farm and trophy hunting business for the American owners - Bobby and Dottie Hill.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
At certain times of the year we have orphaned lambs and calves near the accommodation which are bottle fed and very tame. We have over-friendly ducks and chickens who like to visit guests. Your welcoming party is likely to consist of floppy-eared dogs, a pet deer and a curious Burmese cat.

We didn't want to leave! The view from the porch and windows is amazing. The place was super-clean, super-comfortable, and there were welcome treats! It was extremely well stocked with all sorts of breakfast foods and drinks. The rooms were gorgeous, each with their own bathroom ensuite. Great kitchen area with lots of room to hang out with friends/family. The washer and dryer were an additional bonus. If you are in Makarora, you should stay there.
Thanks so much for this review!
Roomy and comfortable
Roomy and comfortable. Great breakfast. Peaceful setting.
The property, like the hosts, is exceptional.
The property, like the hosts, is exceptional. It has been finished in a rustic style and to a high specification. It is furnished with lazy boy rockers in one bedroom, super comfy beds and a cosy lounge and dining area. The very wide covered deck, is a great place to enjoy the stunning scenery, in which the property is set.
If you have a chance to do the Farm tour with Craig then grab it with both hands. It was certainly one of my highlights, so interesting and so much fun. Thank you both!
Recommend taking a jetboat ride with Wilkin River Jets, flights with Backcountry helicopters or do the Siberia experience - fly, hike, jetboat. Visit the nearby Blue pools and explore the walking tracks in the area. Go fishing for trout in the lake or river. Take a farm tour. Photograph the autumn leaves, the snowy mountains in the winter and the glassy lake in summer. Amazing sights are all around. Number one recommendation is to forget about technology and just relax, enjoy the beautiful surroundings
