About Marty and Sylvie
Sylvie & Marty are your hosts and we love sharing our little peace of heaven with others. Before establishing Timber Trail Centre we travelled the world for 25 years, working in 40 countries and lived in 7 of these. We speak English, French, Hindi and a bit of other languages. Sylvie's background is in professional photography, natural health treatments and organics and at one point was the chef for the royal family of Monaco on their luxury yacht. Marty's has had several careers, including running companies, making wine, banking, and working with various governments and with Mother Teresa in the slums of Calcutta. He is currently runs a film company (www.mindfulworldfilms.com) and enjoys playing his grand piano in the Church.
Marty and Sylvie purchased this Lodge in 2012
Why Marty and Sylvie chose Ongarue
Our cottage is set in large gardens and is close to many stunning sightseeing and adventure experiences (described elsewhere on on our website).
What makes this Lodge unique
We are in the village at the end of the Timber Trail Cycle Way (listed as one of the top 100 things to do in NZ and rated by cyclists as one of NZs top 2 cycleways in the country). A very large trout-filled swimming hole with beach are 10 minutres walk away and an Alpaca farm is just down the road. Within a half hour are many adventure opportunities from river jet-boating and kayaking to rail adventures and hunting deer and wild pig. Waitomo Glow Worm Caves, Tongariro National Park, live volcanoes and ski-fields are about an hour away.
