Island Cabin Overlooking a Quiet Cove

Bedrooms 1
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4 Adults)

Harstine Island is located 16 miles from Shelton, a peaceful little town located between Highways 101 and 3 on the Olympic Peninsula. Harstine Island is the third largest island in the South Sound (after Vashon and Bainbridge) consisting of 40 square miles with 30 miles of shoreline. The island is non-commercial and rural with dense forestation and abundant wildlife.

Located on a quiet cove, our cabin is a place to let your cares slip away. You will love the old fashioned romance of the antique filled cabin on 5 beautiful acres. Two sets of French doors open to a covered porch. From the porch rockers or the porch table and chairs you can watch the tides rise, blue herons take wing and otters pop their heads up to peer at you. Your own private deck with a gas bar-b-que and table and chairs overlooking the saltwater cove.

Peaceful accommodations with spectacular views. Rest awhile on a garden bench or on one of 3 large decks overlooking the Puget Sound and the snow capped Olympic Mountains.

Complimentary treats frequently appear-scones with homemade jams, hot cookies, muffins, cheese and crackers--whatever the weather or season inspires.

Leave the hustle and bustle of city life behind and reserve your special moment in time.

About The Owner

Mike grew up in the Tacoma area. Went to Northern Az. University and taught school for 30 years in Yuma, Az. I grew up in Southern Illinois, moved to Yuma in 1968. Mike and I have 6 grown children and 2 very spoiled island dogs.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 1997

Why The Owner chose Shelton

We came to Lacey Wa. for vacations every summer from Yuma, Az. July 3rd, 1988 a cousin brought us to Harstine Island to dig clams. As soon as we crossed the bridge I knew this is where I wanted to live. When we both retired in 1995 we began to fill our dream.

What makes this cabin unique

If you are looking for a quiet restful cabin surrounded by evergreens and the sounds of nature this is for you! Spend the day digging clams and getting oysters right off the beach. Everything is provided. Spend the evening around your own outdoor firepit. Firewood and marshmallows provided. Enjoy the well stocked games, puzzles and movies.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for sharing your piece of heaven with us! We had a great and relaxing time and hope to come back very soon! We may have to exercise for 6 months or so for all the great treats - but it's worth it!

Peaceful in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We visited during the second week of September, 2018. The property itself was more than what we expected, even after reading the other enthusiastic reviews. It was a relaxing haven that also included full amenities. The cabin decor was both cute and rustic and the bed was comfortable. Even though it was on an island, it was a close enough drive to anything we wanted to see. It was also in a beautiful and tranquil setting and we loved just hanging out. We drank our hot chocolate & coffee on the porch in the morning and sat outside on the decks by the water and watched the stars come out at night (hardly and bugs and no mosquitoes). Judy cooked homemade treats for us, even though they had to leave unexpectedly due to worry about their grandson's health. If we ever visit the area again, we would definitely try to stay here again.

A Perfect Cozy, Quiet Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We arrived to find fresh cookies and a personalized Welcome card waiting for us. The cabin was perfect for our family of four. The cabin had everything you may have forgotten and more. Our weekend was so peaceful. We roamed the shoreline, collected shells, hunted for the tiniest crab, discovered some fun creatures and watched the tide come in while we made dinner at the bbq. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect time. There was a small farmers market on Saturday and everyone we spoke to was so welcoming and informative about the island and surrounding area. We can't wait to get back over to Harstine island and the cozy cabin!

Absolutely wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is located on a terrific site and filled with everything you could possibly need. Most of what we brought with us we didn't even bother to unpack because Judy and Mike already had it covered inside the cabin. Every imaginable kitchen tool, big, fluffy towels in the bathroom, comfortable beds and bedding, plenty of seating both inside and out. A lot of thought and creative decorating went into making this cabin

very welcoming.

We especially appreciated the home baked cookies that were waiting for us when we checked in and for breakfast the next morning, Judy delivered fresh juice and freshly made scones and homemade jam! Truly really, really good stuff!

We had a great private, relaxing stay and even got our dog "hit" when their dog, Samie (sp?) came to visit us. Really sweet and affectionate dog.

We plan to get back as soon as we are able to. Would highly recommend this cabin. Thank you again to Judy and Mike for sharing this cabin with us.

Wonderful hospitality, quiet, lovely getaway.

  • 5 of 5

My husband, 17 year old daughter and I booked this last minute for a weekend getaway. There were kayaks and canoes available for use, and they were wonderful to use! The cabin has access to its own dock, but the owners also made it clear that we were free to enjoy all the grounds, including their own deck and a wonderful hammock and hammock chair area. There are at least 10 spots on the property to plop down and sit, with a small table to do whatever you like. Judy made the perfect hostess, anything we needed she had a solution for right away. We arrived to freshly baked cookies, and the following two mornings were greeted in the morning with baked good, fruit and/or juice. Unexpected, and so appreciated. It was the perfect getaway place for us. Thank you for sharing it with us! We hope to return for a longer stay next time!

Cozy and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

A plate of cookies and a personalized card greeted us in our arrival. We needed a peaceful and private getaway and this spot was perfect. We enjoyed kayaking, reading on the porch, and watching the sun set. Our host was in contact with us by email and in person, so we always had what we needed. Homemade scones and jam made for perfect breakfasts and a sweet extra touch. A lovely getaway!
