It is almost impossible to contemplate how deliriously wonderful it is to stay in Casa Konomi, a luxurious 5300' 4 bedroom 4.5 bath villa. It is it's own vacation resort in the heart of Akumal, MX. Whatever your taste, this home is the kind of place where you will find yourself drawn to stay at the villa during the day rather than venturing out from your own personal paradise. This is Mexico yet it feels like home, but better.
Casa Konomi is conveniently situated between Half Moon Bay and Yalku Lagoon. It is an easy walk to the sandy beach, or the lagoon, both are prime for snorkeling. Unique to this villa, the owner provides a complimentary golf cart and a handful of basic bikes to help make getting around Akumal easy and quick. The location gives guests the unusual opportunity to be secluded by lush gardens, creating a private escape unlike any other rental home in the area. Every minute of the day is spent with the tranquil sound of breaking waves from the ocean waters surrounding the peninsula the home sits on. The owners like to update it every year, so many guests return time after time as they know the villa improves with age! The Mercure party returns year after year, and says each time, 'The house is better than ever!'
There are three large en-suite bedrooms, with a 4th bedroom on the 2nd floor of this 5,360 sq. ft. villa. Located on the upper level with a terrace, the floral style master bedroom is called Blue Lagoon. Also on the second floor is another soothing black and tan bedroom suite, Mapumalanga ('the setting sun'). The third spacious garden bedroom suite, Shangri-La is on the main level. The newly added tropical fourth bedroom has a queen bed and a shared bath. Each of the master suites have two entrances, one leading to a veranda, another to the inside of the villa.
Casa Konomi has amazing attention to detail, from the monkeys carved into the building's decorative architecture, to the many stained glass windows featured throughout the house. The living room and dining room have been carefully thought out with no cost spared for aesthetic themes. All new Tommy Bahama furniture throughout. The rooftop terrace offers amazing vistas of the sea, the jungle and the lagoon. Enjoy an evening filled with stars from this top floor retreat.
Everything needed for a perfect stay is on hand and the staff is at your service to help. Quite unusual to rental homes, there is a fully equipped laundry room with a washer, dryer open occasionally for guests during their stay. For a small additional fee and with some notice upon arrival, the caretaker can often arrange for a cook for a special meal, or a Mayan Tour. Leave the bulky beach towels at home, Casa Konomi will provide as many beach towels as needed, as well as coolers, hats and more. The home is equipped with a safe for valuables.
Every bedroom has air conditioning as well as fans. Each has a large walk in closet. The bathrooms are spacious and spectacular. Rare to the area, bedrooms have soft carpeted floors. The spacious kitchen is equipped with two refrigerators, a state of the art stove, a full size microwave, a gourmet coffee machine and more. Four flat screen TVs give choices to guests, one in the living room and one in each bedroom. There are plenty of DVDs, CDs and games for your enjoyment, as well as DISH TV if all you want is the surround sound of music playing while you fall asleep beside the pool. Wireless internet is available in Casa Konomi so please remember to bring your laptop so you can send home photos daily to make friends and family green with envy. The owner offers free calling for their guests to the US and Canada.
Casa Konomi is going green too! Eco friendly light bulbs have been installed throughout the villa. Six all terrain bikes are on hand for those wishing to ride around Akumal. Not the biking type? No worries, an electric golf cart has been provided for your stay, perfect for trips to the lagoon, the bays, dinner out, or Chomak Market.
The pool is newly refurbished. The BBQ is built in. Even the plumbing is all new. The house is even better than before and it was perfect to begin with.
The staff is there to take care of you, and can also be hired to cook simple meals for you, or provide personal laundry for a per load fee. The grounds are impeccable. Outdoor covered dining next to the cascading waterfall into the lit pool at night makes for many memorable meals when dining in. This villa is a Caribbean Fantasy return client favorite. Feel secure as there in a full time security guard on staff.
Look no further, there is nowhere else where you will feel the life being breathed back into you like at Casa Konomi. This is a place for rest and relaxation, a resort in itself, an oasis in paradise.

Beautiful home with plenty of room and a gorgeous
This home is huge, beautifully decorated, well maintained. Beautiful artwork is around the house. The pool is incredible. There was plenty of room for our 3 generation family to enjoy.
Our 9 year old son with Aspergers Syndrome was out in the pool almost constantly. There were some nice chairs and hammocks to watch him from near the pool if we weren’t inclined to swim. The kitchen is well appointed with 2 large fridge/freezer combinations. It was within a 1 minute walking distance of YalKu Lagoon. If it is crowded with tour groups go home and return later. The pass we bought allowed us to come and go. We went back about 3p.m. and there were only 3 other people in the Lagoon and we saw a ton of fish. Stay to the left when you are in the Lagoon. There is no point swimming out to the breakers as the fish are better near the entrance.
The bikes were nice. My grandson and I went on an exploratory bike ride the first morning into Akumal to look at restaraunts. We never used the golf cart, however there one is available.
I would highly recommend this home to a friend. A couple minor issues that we had that perhaps I could give others a heads up to. The phone did not work several of the days we were there. It wasn’t an issue for us as we had our own personal phones that worked in Mexico. Also we had a small plumbing issue and were not able to contact either the owner or the property manager. We arrived Saturday evening and at the time the property manager had already left. Lucio is normally there and does an excellent job of attending to whatever questions you might have, however because we came in late we didn’t see him until Monday morning. Sylvia keeps the house extremely clean. If you need to do wash be prepared to provide liquid soap, and recognize there are only certain hours and days you have access to the washer. If you want to use the BBQ you need to buy charcoal and buy your own lighter fluid. The oven does not work unless you lift the glass top lid up and the click the gas lighter on the stovetop panel. We were not able to cook our Easter dinner because we couldn’t figure out how to use the appliances. It would be helpful to have instructions written in English and placed in the home. Also there is guidance for tips for the staff, however if you don’t see them until day 3 are you supposed to pay tips for the days you don’t see them? We weren’t quite sure how that worked.
We had a delightful stay, and were so glad we stayed here.
A bit of paradise away from home
Casa Konomi was a beautiful place for our stay for 7 people covering three generations. The home has just about everything you could possibly imagine. A beautiful pool with hammocks and comfortable seats surrounding, a cabana where all of us ate breakfast and lunch each day, a kitchen with state of the art appliances including two huge fridge/freezer combos. The roof was a place of quiet and solitude to relax and look at the stars in the evening. An ice maker which had a huge vat of ice which was well used multiple times/day. Coolers and beach towels. AC in the bedrooms, fans in the other spaces. WiFi was strong enough that it covered multiple devices at once. There was enough space that we could spread out and still have privacy. Within walking distance of YalKu (with the ability to come and go to snorkel) We left when the tours came and returned later in the day and it was almost empty. Lucio and Sylvia did a wonderful job of keeping the yard and house immaculate. The house laws fabulous with extraordinary attention to decorating.
If you go (which I recommend), be aware that you dont always have phone access. It wasnt a problem for us as our phone plans covered Mexico and we used our personal phones. Be aware that the BBQ is not gas, it is charcoal and you would need to provide your own. The oven is gas and you need to lift the glass stovetop cover in order to make it work. You have access to the washer and dryer a few times/week in the morning, you have to provide liquid soap to use it. Lucio leaves Saturday afternoon. For those who arrive on the weekend after Lucio and Sylvia depart (as we did), it would be helpful to have some written instructions of how to use the appliances. There were cats outside on the premises, however they didn’t bother us and we have some significant allergies to cats.
We had a great stay.

Great place for a family reunion
My family and I stated at this beautiful guest house for a full week and loved every day of it. The place is amazing, has every convenience and a very friendly and helpful staff. The location is great, right next to a great snorkeling park, beaches and delicious restaurants (Buena Vida!). It is also 15 to 30 minutes from all sorts of great spots without being in all the bustle of Playa del Carmen or Tulum. Akumal is a great little tourist town. Really good communication also made the stay easy and convenient. I highly recommend this rental.

We just returned from a fabulous week at Casa Konomi. The House was beautiful, it’s kept in perfect condition. Lucia & Silvia are absolute treasures! It was the perfect spot for our family, the adults & kids all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We were so sad to leave. I would definitely come back!!
Beautiful house and great staff
The house was even more spacious than the photos suggest. It was also immaculate. The kitchen was fully equipped and furniture was in excellent condition. The golf cart and cruiser bikes were a big plus for getting around locally. We enjoyed the pool and morning coffee on the rooftop deck, watching and listening to the birds in the neighborhood. Lucio and Sylvia were wonderful. Don't miss snorkeling in the lagoon just 2 blocks away. It was worth the $14 (US) admission charge. (I suggest going early in the day before water gets churned up and to avoid crowds.)
While I rate this property 5 stars for quality of the house and staff and timely response from owner when we had a problem (we couldn't light the oven our first night), there are some small things that could be improved.
First and foremost, the house really needs some detailed instructions. All we could find was a single laminated sheet with a few bullet points. That was somewhat helpful but nowhere near comprehensive. We were unable to figure out how to operate the big-screen TV and DVD player in the living room, which really needed instructions.
You can see from maps supplied by the rental agent that the casa is just a few blocks from the ocean. But the shore there is rocky, not a sandy swimming beach.
Also, in the interest of transparency, I was disappointed that we didn't learn about the expectations for tipping staff until after we'd booked and paid the rental fee. It was not a deal breaker, and the staff certainly deserved to be tipped. But I found it off-putting that this came up only after we'd booked. Also, the rental agent said there would be information on tipping at the casa, and we found none.
Thank you for your review of Casa Konomi. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay and all the amenities that it has to offer. Tipping is standard and generally not a problem for guests to know the guidelines (located in the arrival documents and email after initial booking). It use to be posted by the desk at the house. We sincerely thank you for helping us see through the eyes of the guests. We will work with the owner to get some more specific information about tipping at the house too. We always love feedback like this so we can make each stay better. Let us help you again next time you are in Akumal! Caribbean Fantasy, Inc.
Casa Konomi is located in Akumal, a quaint resort of private residences in the popular Riviera Maya. Akumal, which in Maya is 'The place of the turtles' is one of the most satisfying destinations on the azure Caribbean coastline. This villa is with-in walking distance of Yalku Lagoon, a natural aquarium which never fails to impress those interested in a fantastic snorkeling experience. Also with in a short walk from Casa Konomi are Half Moon Bay beach and Akumal Bay beach; both bays are filled with stunning coral reefs and sea life such as turtles, rays and schools of colorful fish. The drive to Cancun airport is an easy hour + drive, yet light years away from the hustle and bustle. Nearby are the busy towns of Playa Del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, and Tulum. It is only short scenic drive to the famous Mayan ruins of Tulum, Coba and Chichen Itza. Dramatic eco-parks such as Xcaret and Xel-Ha are just a few minutes in either direction. Beaches near Casa Konomi are gorgeous and unique. Other Activities: Scuba diving, snorkeling, jungle tours, ziplines, Mayan Ruins Golf: There are several golf courses in the area. Located in Playa del Carmen is Playacar Club de Golf. This is an 18 hole Golf Course designed by Robert Von Hagge and built amongst the lush foliage of the Yucatan Peninsula. The Club provides a first class practice area, complete with a spectacular driving range, and a large putting green. Playacar is about a 30 minute drive north of Akumal on the southern end of Playa del Carmen. Located just minutes south of Akumal is the newly built (2010) Gran Bahia Principe Golf Course. Designed by Robert Tent Jones, the club offers both an 18 hole par 72 layout as well as a 9 hole par 36 layout.
