If you awaken before 7 am, walk down the beach to the right for 1/2 mile and see turtles sleeping on the sand. Mornings are also great for watching surfers on three reefs (Mokuleia) visible from the beach. The best times to swim and snorkel are during low tide, generally, before 10 am and after 5 pm. In the evenings, enjoy a colorful sunset over the ocean. During the winter, watch for whale spouts and jumping in front of the horizon. It's no exaggeration that Mokuleia is one of the best beaches on Oahu for natural beauty, wildlife and privacy.

The cottage is on Crozier Drive, which is an exclusive private one-lane road with multi-million dollar second homes mixed with primary residences on the oceanside and two-acre agricultural land on the mountain side. Locals consider Waialua "country."

Miles of quiet beaches for walking and shell collecting. This is truly a special area of the islands, remote yet only a short drive into the world famous surf town of Haleiwa, and just a 45-minute drive to the excitement of Honolulu and Waikiki.

This lovely guest cottage on a gated beachfront lot is shared with the owner's home. There is an enclosed outdoor hot shower and toilet (in addition to the 1-1/2 baths in the cottage). Comfortably furnished with beautiful landscaping, and only steps to the quiet, secluded, sandy beach in this very quiet neighborhood, away from the traffic and congestion of Sunset Beach.

About Lori

This is my family's private home. My parents live in the separate main house. Since I live in Texas, and use the 'Keiki Hale' (children's house) just a few weeks a year, we rent it out for short-term vacations. This property will always stay in my family as my husband and I plan to retire here and my kids love it.

Our beach is exceptional for its beauty and privacy. You can sit on the beach for hours and not see another person. It's great for snorkeling and swimming because there's a reef that protects the beach. We live on a private residential street that is quiet (except for the occasional wild chicken).

North Shore Gem

What a wonderful rental house! My husband and I enjoyed our visit to the North Shore, but our experience while staying at this property made it all that much better.

The house is located on a very quiet street. The Keiki House, where guests stay, is set back from the main house. Lillian resides at the main house and she is an absolute gem. Simply delightful to talk to. The garden she maintains in her yard is beautiful. The property overlooks the water, however, guests must walk a few yards to actually get to the water. We made coffee and sat out by the water each morning. We were not able to walk the beach much or swim, because of the winter weather brought in big waves (bring a sweatshirt and jeans if you visit in December!), but just watching the surf for a couple hours in the morning was so relaxing. I bet in the summer it would be a nice little swimming beach.

Lillian and her friends shared some of her tropical fruit with us. We were delighted with the papaya and coconut -fresh off the tree! She is a warm and generous woman.

The house itself is very cute and clean. Large enough to easily accommodate 5-6 people. We felt right at home. Definitely purchase breakfast and lunch items before you get there - to get to restaurants you must drive, but it's only a 5-10 minute drive to Haleiwa where there are many restaurant options. (We loved Haleiwa Joe's.)

We enjoyed our hike to Kaena Point - it will take you at least a couple of hours. Bring water and maybe a power bar or granola bar. And don't forget your camera.

On our way back to Honolulu we stopped at the Dole Plantation, which was definitely touristy, but I enjoyed it just the same.

The owners left a binder with tips about the area and suggestions of things to do - they were pretty spot on. It was really interesting to see the North Shore - very different than Honolulu/Waikiki - definitely worth the trip.

I recommend this property.

We loved staying here! Amazing private location right on a gorgeous North Shore beach. Quick drive to either Honolulu or the beaches further north. Highly recommend! We will certainly stay here again.

Little piece of heaven

We really enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and the amazing view from this property. Sea turtles swim in the water right behind the house. Be prepared during the winter for windy and rainy days. It is a short drive to the south and west shores for better snorkeling.

Exactly as was described!

Our family group of 4 loved our time. Facilities were as described. Could not believe we were blessed with such a wonderful home & space to unwind. Beach was awesome & wild! No crowds AT ALL. Drove 10 mins away to Haleiwa for some bumper to bumper tourist action, awesome food & fun . But mostly just kicked back & enjoyed the space & home to cook, play & bond. Much love on this property & big mana. Mahalo!!!

What A Wonderful Place To Stay

Talk about making us feel right at home. The view, absolutely incredible, location was in the country and such a quiet neighborhood. Beach access and view were the highlight and the cottage was comfortable and had all we needed!

Our daily conversations with Lillian were the best. She gave us great recommendations on things to do and places to eat.

We were up early every day to enjoy daily sunrises on the beach. We will definitely come back and stay here again. We’ve already recommended this cottage to our friends and family!

Just perfect!

We really enjoyed our stay and spent some great and relaxing days in Waialua. The owners were very friendly and courteous. Great location, beautiful and almost private beach.

This property is located 5 miles from Historic Haleiwa town (the surfing capitol of the world). It is on a private residential road with minimal traffic, away from the congestion of Sunset Beach. The beach is protected by a reef that makes for wonderful swimming and snorkeling. We don't have the huge waves and undertow of Sunset Beach and we don't have jellyfish like at the beaches at Laie. Mokuleia is truly the best beach on Oahu.

There are two houses on the property. The rental house is closer to the road with an ocean view from the patio. My mother lives in the main house closest to the beach. The two houses are close together and some renters feel like they're "in" my mother's space when they use the "common" areas like the grill, outdoor shower, yard, etc. Please don't feel this way. My mother is used to having renters and it doesn't bother her so please don't let it bother you. However, both my mom and my neighbors would appreciate quiet after 9:00 p.m. We do not allow parties, weddings or camping. Check-in is 4:00 PM, check-out is 11:00 AM.

The house will be reserved for you as soon as the $500 security deposit is received. The $500 deposit will be returned 14 days after you leave (minus any damage to the property or extra cleaning fee for excessive amount of sand left in the house). The "subtotal" (daily rate + taxes + cleaning fee) is due 30 days before your arrival date. If today's date is less than 30 days from your arrival, the "total" amount is due ($500 security deposit + subtotal). Once HomeAway.com receives your $500 security deposit, you will receive a standard rental agreement. You will need to download the HomeAway app to your cell phone to receive instructions about how to get the key for the house, general information letter about the house, restaurant and sightseeing suggestions, and directions to the house from the airport.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund if canceled at least 14 days before arrival date.
  • 100% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
