Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 2-6)
My husband and I have been married since 1990 and have had both full time and vacation rentals since 1993. We're big DIYers. I am an artist by nature, so interior decorating comes natural to me. My husband has artistic skills too but prefers building things. We built our cottage with our own four hands over a 3 yr. period, every weekend, every holiday, and our own money. A vacation rental business suits me for being able to earn income from home while keeping myself available for my school-age son, having time for family/school activities, as well as being able to clean and maintain my vacation rental to my high standards.
Tammy purchased this Cottage in 2002
Why Tammy chose Leicester
The community of Newfound in Leicester is a farming community. Since we loved the area enough to build our dream home here, we knew our guests would appreciate a home-away-from-home in a true country setting. Perfect location being 5.7 miles from the interstate, 20 minutes from downtown via in-town roads and only 25 minutes to the Biltmore Estate [via in-town roads]. So you get to enjoy time "vacationing" instead of driving. It's the best of both worlds!
What makes this Cottage unique
Relaxing in the mountain setting with lightning bugs and tree frogs at night, song birds during the day, being in a well maintained clean house, beautifully decorated, minutes from major attractions, while having simple amenities like satellite TV, WiFi, magazines, board games and DVDs in case of less than favorable weather. But also having the high end amenities like a hot tub, outdoor fireplace, onsite hiking and swimming pool when there's nothing but perfect weather in sight!!!

It was the perfect location for our getaway weekend. Proximity to the Biltmore Estate was convenient. House is loaded with things to do; movies, games, books. Wish we had more time in it to enjoy. Truly enjoyed an evening in front of the outdoor fireplace and in the soothing hot tub. Perfect after a day of walking at the Biltmore Estate. Loved having 3 full size bathrooms. So glad we made the trip at the beginning of the Corona-virus crisis. Beautiful home Tammy. Many Thanks.
Directions and access to property were very good. Nice thoughtful touches in the cottage, such a board games, toys, and a large selection of movies to watch. Coffee, sugar, and creamer supplied for use. Outside fireplace on deck with firewood very nice in winter. Owner thought of extras such as several hooks and towel bars for the bathrooms. Wooded lot was peaceful with a small stream running alongside.
However, the cottage needs a deep cleaning along with pest control treatment. This is most noticeable in the upstairs loft, bedroom and bathroom. There were very noticeable spiderwebs in the upstairs bathroom and bedroom ceilings. The spiderweb in the bathroom was currently being occupied as well. There were also spiderwebs behind both loft and bedroom doors where they open to the walls, one had egg sacs on the carpet in the loft bedroom. Trash was found under the living room couch. Furniture needs to be moved, baseboards and carpets deep cleaned as there is a thick layer of dust and grime behind all of bedroom pieces.
Thank you so much for pointing out the extras and thoughtful touches, as they said, we provide. We do our best to have items at our vacation rental we think would make ours live more like home. Speaking to the second half of this review. I clean the cottage myself and can assure you there is never a borage of spider webs I see and simply decide to leave. Spider webs can, if you didn't know, be created literally overnight. So if there is a spider in the cottage it is completely possible a spider web isn't there the day before guests arrival, which is when I clean, and show up the next day when guests do arrive. And I assure you there was not trash under the living room couch nor is there some mega build-up of dust on any of my baseboards or behind any bedroom furniture that for some really wild reason I see and just decide to leave. Really? Really? I'll tell ya what, I hope that wherever this guest stays next is as clean as his own house.
We enjoy visiting the Asheville area with lots of views and activities. We are a family of 5 and this home was perfect for our stay. The home was clean and as described in the description and photos. The onsite hike was lovely, up a mountain for a lovely view. Hope to visit again soon!
We also hope these guests will be able to visit again too! We do strive to keep our cottage clean, thank you. And we're so glad to hear these guests got some hiking in while they were here. A return visit just might be in order in a different season to see what changes here in the mountains too.
Perfect for romantic getaways and families!!!
This property is perfect for a nice little getaway near Asheville. The back porch is amazing, complete with a hot-tub, outdoor sitting area, and outdoor fire place.
It took a little under 20 minutes to get to downtown and/or the Biltmore, but you’d never know you were that close to a metropolitan area with how secluded and quiet the area was.
Even my 4 (four?!?!?) teenagers loved it.
Thank you Matt and Tammy!!!!
We love hearing our guests getaway was perfect! And yes, that back deck should be listed under the "wonders of the world" because it certainly seems to have some magical effect. We do consider our location to be among the cream of the crop, being only 20 minutes to the two main reasons for our tremendous attraction to the outside world, downtown and The Biltmore Estate. We have plenty of magic left for our guests return visits, and hope they will!!
We had a good time, the owner had many amenities available in the house, games, DVDs, toys, hot cocoa, tea etc. But its definitely a 'country mile' to where ever you need to be!!
Sure glad to hear everyone had a good time. The things we provide are certainly to help our guests feel welcome and at home. We consider Newfound Cottage a true southern destination. It's funny though how some guests feel our location is convenient and others feel it's "a country mile". Rest assured though, the time you take with your family to get where you're going is never wasted, it's just more time you'll have to cherish as memories with your family.
