Miles from Australia, but felt like home in this midtown Manhattan haven.......Kaye & Oliver

  • 5 of 5

My son and I stayed in this beautiful apartment for ten nights and could easily have settled in for at least a month or more. The apartment is spotless, elegant, spacious, stylish, and comfortably furnished. Alice & Richard have provided everything to make it truly feel like you are home the minute you step through the door - thoughtful things like fresh fruit and flowers, an excellent array of pantry and fridge items, plentiful fluffy towels, terrific reading materials, umbrellas for rainy days.......even a blender for our morning smoothies and coffee machine and grinder (including 'Joe' beans) for a great cup of coffee....anytime. We just felt so very welcome.....really nice when you have travelled a long way.

We have a good friend, NYC born and bred, who lives on Fifth Avenue. We invited him to join us for an early dinner 'at home' a few times before we went to the theatre. First he questioned "why we would 'eat in' when there are so many excellent restaurants nearby?" Well......with a terrific small but well stocked grocery store just around the corner, a well set up kitchen for preparation, beautiful tableware for serving, and an elegant dining and living area to eat and relax in.........why would you want to go out? Our friend completely saw the point, and by day three he wished he lived here too!

The location is unbeatable. We have used VRBO and enjoyed extended stays in Manhattan twice before, once four doors from Central Park on the upper east side - fantastic in summer ......... and once on E 58th St directly behind the Plaza Hotel - also fantastic. This apartment though is absolutely our favourite because it is so handy to access everything and yet feels so quiet, calm and homely once inside. Subways, buses, the best stores, museums, restaurants, sights, parks are all an easy walk away. The neighbourhood is vibrant and yet felt so safe and friendly. We were out most nights at various entertainment venues in Manhattan until very late and had no worries about walking home from wherever we had been.

We appreciated Richard and Alice greeting us on arrival.......it is nice to meet your hosts and reassure them that you will take very good care of the lovely home they are entrusting you with. It was also lovely to have a housekeeping service and fresh linen during our stay. Much appreciated.

My son (he's 26) and I would highly recommend this beautiful apartment and couldn't imagine wanting to stay anywhere else. Perfect in every way!

We loved this perfect midtown apartment!

  • 5 of 5

My sister and I stayed in this wonderful apartment for a perfect NYC week last month. The apartment is immaculately clean and well-maintained with very comfortable and lovely furnishings. We are very glad we spent a little more to be able to stay here rather than a hotel - it was so worth it. It was wonderful to come back to a 'home' at the end of each action-packed day and relax in this calming and beautiful space. It was great to have a bit of a housekeeping refresh several days into our stay. Clean towels and sheets - a very nice touch. I can't think of a single thing that was missing or overlooked during our stay.

Richard was very easy to work with and prompt in all communications when booking and questions prior to arrival. He also met us at the apt. and gave us an overview of the workings and some pointers on the neighborhood. He'd graciously added a few things to the pantry, including some wonderful bread, cream cheese from Zabar's, milk, and a bottle of Prosecco (for my sister's birthday). Plus, fresh flowers on the table! After a long day of traveling, we wanted an easy choice for dinner. After recommending several restaurants within just a few steps of the apartment, Richard kindly called and made a reservation for us at a wonderful restaurant just down the street.

As many others have noted, the apartment is ideally located as you can walk to so many great museums, Broadway, Central Park, and 5th Avenue shopping with the subway close by as well.

If you are looking for a midtown apartment rental, this is *the one*. My sister and I are already planning our next trip to NYC and we don't want to stay anywhere else!

Midtown Luxury

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I found Richard and Alice's apartment to be the perfect home base for our week-long stay in NYC. Its central location, just a block from MOMA and a few blocks from Central Park and the Theater District proved ideal for our needs as we could walk to many of our destinations. The tastefully decorated space felt like home with its original artwork, comfortable furniture, well-stocked kitchen and commodious storage all welcoming us like old friends. Speaking of welcome -- their son-in-law greeted us on our arrival and took us through the immaculate space, providing us with basic information on the operation of the various appliances, air conditioning units, etc. and answering our questions. The owners generously included an assortment of complimentary food such as coffee, milk, bread, fresh fruit, and a bottle of wine along with basic spices and condiments for our use. They also provided a mid-week house cleaning service which included fresh sheets and towels and vacuuming and dusting -- a welcome extra which enhanced our stay.

All of the neighbors we encountered in the building, from the building super to those we met in the lobby and elevator were friendly, kind, and welcoming. We had a wonderful seven days in New York, packed with activities and adventures. The fact that we could return to an apartment that felt like home at the end of each activity allowed us to rest and recuperate to be ready for the next adventure. We have stayed in numerous VRBO properties throughout the United States and Europe. We place Richard and Alice's apartment among the best of them and we put Richard and Alice at the top of list of hosts. They provided us with outstanding accommodations and were always available to answer our questions to insure that our stay at their apartment would be amazing... IT WAS!!

The apartment is beautiful and extremely well appointed. It contains everything you could possibly need. The location is ideal with very good dining within a few steps, MOMA around the corner and a five minute walk from Central Park and other attractions. The owners are very responsive if you have any questions or problems. Overall,an excellent place to stay.

Beautiful 2br in the center of everything

  • 5 of 5

From the moment the owners met us in front of the apartment building (and helped us bring our luggage up) to the gracious follow-up arranging to return an item we had inadvertently left in the unit, our experience with this apartment was exemplary. The owners had even left spices, ground coffee, a small OJ and milk, and other incidentals in the refrigerator and invited us to use what was there. The furnishings are very luxurious, comfortable and personal - the three of us stayed for almost three weeks, but within a day or two we felt very much at home. After every long day of sightseeing, we looked forward to returning to the apartment and its ample air conditioning, and on the days we stayed in, the apartment was more than large enough for all of us to feel comfortable without stepping on each others' toes.

The location is very convenient. The immediate block has several restaurants (sit-down, casual, natural food, indian, french among others), as well as a small supermarket on the corner (though it is a little on the expensive side). A larger supermarket is another two blocks away. The apartment is within two or three blocks of just about every major subway on Manhattan, and we were able to get to most of the places we wanted to go within 15 minutes of leaving the front door. We regularly walked back and forth to see shows on Broadway or to visit the southern section of Central Park.

In sum, this is probably the best VRBO rental we have ever done (we have done about a dozen in different cities), and we were very sad to have to leave this apartment at the end of our stay. While renting this unit is not inexpensive, I feel like I received my money's worth, and I look forward to renting it again in a future visit to Manhattan. Top notch.
