About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

Richmond Shores is a great place to be year round! Come have some summer fun, enjoy the autumn colors or play in the snow. This year round cottage is the perfect spot for those who enjoy outdoor activities. The house is on a dead end road, has a lake view and very private yard that is surrounded by woods.

The house is truly very child & family friendly. Your kids will love our house! Our property has a large yard with a swing set and fire pit for S'mores! There is a closet full of board games for the family to enjoy in the evening or on rainy days! We have 2 kayaks as well as 3 adult bikes and a children's bike.

There is a private beach for the cottages in Richmond Shores. This private association beach is less than a minute walk from our house, has a roped off area for young children and a raft to swim out to for older children. The private association beach also has built a sand pit for the kids to enjoy and provide adirondack style chairs for the adults to sit and relax. The town of Richmond also has a public beach further down the road that has a lifeguard on duty.

The house is 10 minutes from Tanglewood for summer concerts and a few short miles to Bosquet Ski area for skiing in the winter. Great location if you want to be near Lenox, Stockbridge, or Pittsfield; for easy access to all the pleasures that the Berkshires have to offer. In the winter, Bosquet Ski area is a great affordable mountain that is five minutes away. Great rates including $10 on Thursday nights. Jiminy Peak and Butternut are both an easy drive.

The house has 3 bedrooms, 1 full bath and is fully furnished. The 1st and 2nd bedroom have queen sized beds, the 3rd bedroom has a day bed along with a twin size trundle bed. All towels, sheets and blankets are provided.

If you have any special needs prior to arrival, we will do our best to accommodate your requests. Our goal is to make sure that your vacation is relaxing and we will do our best to ease the stress of vacation.

About Craig Cafarelli

Craig and I have been married over 15 years and have two children. When we first got married, Craig's job required us to move 9 times in 12 years domestically and internationally. We purchased this vacation home while we were living overseas so our family would have a place to call home. We moved back to the Boston area for Craig to attend MIT Sloan to get his MBA. During this time, I began working for an agency that managed vacation rentals and Bed & Breakfasts in the Boston area. From this experience, I truly learned to love the hospitality aspect of the job and we began renting our cottage to guests traveling to the Berkshires. We now live permanently in the Boston area and we are very happy to continue to share our favorite place with others.

Craig Cafarelli purchased this cottage in 2001

Why Craig Cafarelli chose Berkshires

In 2001, we were searching for a vacation home in the Berkshires and Southern Vermont. We have family in this area and wanted a place to call home while we lived abroad. As soon as we pulled into the driveway, we knew we were going to buy this house. It was the ultimate summer location to have our kids spend their summers. There are also several ski areas nearby which was also important to us. This house had a unique yard and location. It is lake view, seconds away from a private association beach, we have access to a dock to park our boat, private yard and lots of dirt roads along the lake to bike and walk. It reminded me of being a kid and enjoying the simple pleasures of summer which is exactly what we wanted our children to experience.

What makes this cottage unique

I love the fact that I feel as if I am on a camping trip but with all the comfort of home (including dishwasher, washer & dryer). One of our favorite things to do is make a camp fire at night and make smores. We enjoy walking around the lake, taking the kids for bike rides and going out on the boat. We love walking up to Bartlett's Apple Orchard to get cider donuts for breakfast and various other baked goodies during the day! In the winter we love walking on the ice, sledding and playing in the snow. We have a closet full of board games which is great for when there is rain or snow. We always enjoy spending time as a family and it's a great getaway for Craig and I!

We really enjoyed our stay in the house. It was a great location near the lake and a cute Apple orchard. Everything was clean and well stocked for us.

Perfect for our " leaf peepers " getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Clean and tastefully decorated, this cozy cottage was perfect for the three of us. When we had an issue, Craig responded quickly with multiple options to resolve it. We were only 15-20 minutes from any points of interest! Thank you Craig and Diane!

Great cottage for a few days in the Berkshire

  • 4 of 5

Our family with our two little dogs spent a few days in this cottage. It is perfectly located, close to the Norman Rockwell museum and Pittsfield. We had a great time in Ramblewild (if one is not afraid of heights...), used the kayaks on the lake (my husband went fishing every day), swam in the warm lake and walked our dogs every day. The cottage was perfect for a small family, we could BBQ and enjoy the beautiful nights on the patio, and it was clean and had all the amenities necessary for a few days, with grocery stores very close.

Only one issue, the fan over the stove did not work and set-up the fire alarm. The owner will look into fixing this issue... We could hear the train once in a while, but it did not bother us at all, even at night (I think the train did not come every night, or I do not remember). Just a warning for this time of year: do not forget to bring Bugs-Off!!!! We got bitten by mosquitoes our last night!

Overall, a great experience that gives us the desire to go back to the Berkshires.

Highly recommended, with private yard, near association beach

  • 5 of 5

The house rental experience went without a hitch: for example, the owners were responsive to all questions and were very pleasant. The house is well-maintained, clean, and much appeared to be newly repainted, and it was situated on a quiet, private yard, within a short walk to the association swimming beach on Richmond Pond.

The house was in fine condition, including the two decks, the outdoor furniture, the swing-set, and the new kayaks. The shed came in handy to shelter a couple of our own bikes, and the owners had available bikes there as well. There was even new tableware.

Having the two decks and the yard allowed our group to spread out.

We usually go out to the Berkshires later in the summer season and see plays and listen to classical or jazz in Tanglewood, but this year we could only fit in the last full week in June. There was still plenty to do, with free music in Lenox from the Tanglewood Institute faculty and students for instance, and biking, and the house was a comfortable home base near Stockbridge and Lenox where we could go on the water.

We recommend this house and its owners very highly. We would stay there again.

We have been working hard in the off-season to update the property and add amenities, such as the kayaks, bikes, swing set and fire pit, for families to enjoy during their stay. Happy that your group enjoyed them! We hope that you come back next year!

OK Stay by the Lake

  • 3 of 5

This is a serviceable house in a good location centrally located to many Berkshire activities. It feels secluded even though you are in a lakeside community with many little houses on top of each other. There is a view of the lake from the deck and the kitchen window- and a very short walk to the small "beach"- just a grassy area with a picnic table and a roped off swim area. The lake is really pretty and we really enjoyed using the kayaks ( the short walk seems much longer carrying kayaks though!) The house itself is very clean, but a bit rundown. There are stains on the carpet and a chip in the Formica countertop. The TV is big and works very well as did the WIFI. Two of the three mattresses were pretty uncomfortable and the bedrooms are really tiny-just room for a bed, and one other piece of furniture; the only closet in the entire place you can hang clothes is the coat closet by the front door. There are bifold doors on the two bedrooms off the living room which don't work that well depending on the humidity and don't give too much privacy. By far, the biggest con of the place is the freight train that runs through the backyard (you can see it through the trees) on a pretty regular basis. I am surprised that only one review mentions this as it is very loud and runs throughout the night. I bought ear plugs and did get used to it by the end of the week, but the first couple of nights were pretty miserable.

Owner's Response: We appreciate your feedback and continuously strive to improve the property while keeping our price point budget friendly. We have been working hard in the off-season to update the property. This last off-season we replaced all the doors and windows, roof, siding and swing set. We also repainted the main living areas in the house, installed new kitchen and bathroom floors, refinished the kitchen cabinets, replaced light fixtures and purchased 2 new kayaks for guests to enjoy during the summer months. This upcoming off-season, we will finish updating the property with new cabinet hardware, countertops and backsplash in the kitchen and new carpet in the living room and bedrooms. We will also be getting new mattresses and replacing some furniture that was damaged this rental season. Your feedback helps us know that we are on the right path to making the house the best it can be and that our efforts in the off season will have a positive impact for future guests. We were happy to hear that you enjoyed the new kayaks and we hope to expand on amenities like this that really add to our guests' vacation while keeping our rates affordable.
