Our home has recently (12/16) been redecorated and gives every guest a cozy, homey feeling.
Tranquility and secluded with mountain creek running in front of our property.
Tastefully decorated, well maintained, very clean and fully stocked. Loved sitting by the "easy lite" gas fireplace as it snowed outside. Must eat Mike's Inland Seafood! We had a great time!
My family and I enjoyed our stay at the cabin. Our girls loved having their own area downstairs to play and watch TV. It is very quiet up there. You are up a mountain. The road is narrow and the driveway is narrow and steep with a 45° upward spiral turn at the top. We were glad we had a SUV with 4wheel drive, because it had rained before we got there, the ground was muddy and slippery. We also got to experience snow for the first time. It was so beautiful!!! We really enjoyed our stay :-)
There were 5 adults and I child in our party. No toilet paper and no trash bags. We had to go buy both for the cabin. The directions stated that there would be 3 or 4 indicators/markers on the tree telling us where to turn, there was only one. All the address wasn't there either. Part of it had been torn off. Very hard to know where the cabin was. The upstairs was very nice. But no air stirring downstairs at all. Had to make pallets upstairs to accommodate everyone in the air conditioning. even at night. We were told we were to haul the trash away, no where to take it when you check out on Sunday, Very inconvenient. Very dissatisfied and disappointed. High price for low quality service.
This rental property is exactly like the pictures. Well maintained cabin in the mountains. We stayed here for a week while dropping our daughter off at Appalacian State University in Boone. Only ten miles to Boone with a quiet peaceful setting. The house had two bedrooms one up stairs one downstairs, with two sets of bunk beds. Full kitchen with dining area. Living room with dish tv. A great place for any outdoor activity, we hiked went tubing on the river, drove to the Blue Ridge Parkway, and spent time in Boone and at Appalacian State. The owner Rod was great to work with very quick to respond to any question I had. Like other reviews I must say as the description says this is truly a peaceful retreat, laid back and relaxing.
This is a great home to stay, near enough to Boone and other attractions, yet far enough to definitely be secluded. My one suggestion about the location: do not arrive at night! We got a late start and did not get in until around 11 pm and following the directions at night was a bit of a challenge!
The home is very nice. There were 9 of us: 4 adults and 5 children. There were 2 queen beds in bedrooms, 4 bunk beds, and one hide-a-bed that we used. I loved the Jacuzzi and it definitely helped prevent some soreness after hiking Linville Gorge and Grandfather mountain. There are some porch swings, and it was nice to sit out there and listen to the wind blow and the creeks flowing. There were plenty of towels and hot water (important when there are a bunch of people needing showers after a day of sightseeing walking). In all honesty, I think the only thing I looked for but could not find was a cheese grater! But that was totally minor and I only mention it to show that the house has everything you could need for a week long stay.
As someone else said, the wifi can get weak at times, especially if there are multiple users. But it was not really inconvenient, just kind of noticeable when we were all trying to check our emails. But we had cell service without problems the entire time. It probably just depends on the carrier.
Working with Rod was very nice, he is prompt in his replies and very straightforward in explaining the cost. We would stay there again.
Cabin was well maintained and very clean. Like the name says, it is a peaceful retreat. We were 4 adults and 2 children and the cabin was a perfect fit. Working with Rod, the owner, was great, and he is very responsive via phone, text, and/or email. Pots and pans could have been better, but we made it work. Wireless internet was OK, and it was good enough to check email and stream music. Mobile phone service is spotty to none, so it was great to have a land line available to be able to make phone calls. Boone is 15-20 minutes away (for shops, markets, food, etc) and Todd is less than 5 minutes away (for fishing, tubing, kayaks, bike rentals, etc.). We did some local sightseeing/hiking in New River State Park, Linville Falls, and Grandfather Mountain. We also took fly fishing lessons and rented kayaks from Rivergirl Fishing Co. in Todd (Highly Recommended). All around great location to get away, relax and have fun with your family.
