About the property

Condo, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Located on Keawakapu Beach on the sunny side of the island, the Mana Kai is a condo complex of 98 privately-owned, luxury two bedroom, two bath units. Walk down the beach to Wailea and the luxury beach front hotels--The Grand Wailea, Four Seasons, and Fairmont's Kea Lani. Play golf at the world class courses at the Blue, Gold and Emerald courses at Wailea or the Makena courses, just a five minute drive down the road. There is also great shopping at the Shops at Wailea, and Kihei Town is less than a mile up the road.

The Mana Kai has recently undergone a multi-million dollar renovation that includes a complete remodeling and expansion of the swimming pool. A large lawn area provides sunbathers an option to the sandy beach mere steps from the complex.

We purchased our unit in 2008 as our part-time residence. We completely remodeled it, including replacing the tile floors, expanding the kitchen, installing new kitchen cabinets, granite counter tops and top of the line appliances (Bosch range, dishwasher and microwave, GE full-size refrigerator/freezer), new bathroom cabinets, sinks, toilets and showers, new paint throughout and new furniture, including two king-sized beds, two flat-panel high-definition TV sets, a Bose music system and a completely upgraded air conditioning system for the entire unit. A keyless lock system means you never have to worry about locking yourself out or losing a key at the beach. Chairs, umbrella are also provided at no charge. And needless to say, it comes fully stocked with all the necessities of home that you would expect from a turn-key, top of the line condominium.

We re-decorated in 2013 buying a new corner sectional sofa. What made this possible was moving the TV to a new custom cabinet that sits at the foot of the bed. A remote control raises and lowers the television for viewing in the living room. The TV swivels so you can also watch it in bed. No other unit at the Mana Kai has this feature.

Wake up in the morning, look to your left and watch the sun rise over Haleakala volcano from your balcony while you check your email using our free wireless internet. Look the other way and watch the sun set over the Pacific between Lanai and Kaho'olawe every evening sipping a cocktail. In between you can watch the whales (5,000 spent the spring here in Maui this year) or just sit and watch the paddle boarders, sunbathers and snorkelers down below.

Keawakapu Beach is routinely voted one of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaii and is home to multi-million dollar homes down its half mile length. Because of its north/south orientation, waves rarely break over a couple feet, so it is extremely kid friendly. Snorkeling off our point is some of the best on the island.

The Five Palms Restaurant is located downstairs. It has been voted the best breakfast place in Maui, has an excellent happy hour at the bar from 3 to 6 daily, and offers gourmet dining nightly. Zack's Deli is located at the other end of the complex and sells sandwiches, food staples and a wide variety of wines and liquor. An on-sight activity desk can help with excursions such as a sunset dinner cruise, a luau, snorkeling off Molokini or riding bikes down Haleakala. And for you yoga enthusiasts, Maui Yoga Path offers daily yoga classes taught by renowned Iyengar yoga instructor, Deni Roman. In 2016 the resort remodeled the basement of the building and built a state-of-the-art work out facility, a new conference room that can hold up to 12 people, and a business center.

The picture down the beach was taken on a typical late afternoon from the balcony. You can see why couples get married right on the beach several times a week--it is a magical and memorable place, and it is waiting for you and your family.

Check out our new video which does a good job of showing the interior of our condo, the views down the beach, and highlights many of the nearby amenities.

So why stay in 306?

You have many choices when you are deciding where to stay in the Mana Kai. All 98 condominiums have identical floor plans; many have been recently remodeled; and some are closer to the ocean or on higher floors than others. Why do we love ours?

As you can see from the pictures, we completely remodeled our condo when we bought it, and have made many additional improvements over the years. Deanne is a designer in the Bay Area and her choice of colors and furnishings are unique and beautiful.

We live here part of the year. It is more than a rental property to us. We buy the kind of things you would put in your house: high quality dishes and silverware, pots and pans and kitchen utensils. We also regularly replace linens and towels rather than wait for them to wear out, and needless to say, we buy the kind of sheets you would want to sleep on at home. We would like you to think about our condo as your home away from home.

Generally, condos that are on the ocean side of the building and on higher floors can accommodate higher rental rates. We are slightly contrarian to this view. While you would want a top floor penthouse if you were staying in downtown Manhattan, we believe that higher up only makes you further from the sounds of the waves and the view down the beach. Being on the third floor is just right. We also have unobstructed ocean views in our back bedroom where many other units look into the stairwells or the elevator shafts.

Please email me if you have any questions. Mahalo.

About The Owner

When our youngest of four children went off to college my wife Deanne and I figured it was time for us to quit the rat race and spend time doing the things we have dreamed about over the years. Scott quit his job as a VP and General Counsel of a Silicon Valley semiconductor company, we sold our house in the San Francisco Bay Area, and bought a condo at the Mana Kai Maui. Our extended family had vacationed here for several Thanksgivings so we knew what we were getting into--our piece of paradise. This picture includes Scott, Deanne and two of our four children--Kevin and Allison, sitting on the patio.

The Owner purchased this condo in 2008

Why The Owner chose Kihei

The Mana Kai is so close to the ocean that when we first arrive we have to close the window because the waves are too loud. We take daily walks down the beach and let the warm water wash over our feet and the trade winds blow through our hair. I get up early and watch the sun rise over Haleakala and then, from the same seat on the patio I watch the sun set in the evening. Magic.

What makes this condo unique

Keawakapu Beach is beautiful and very family friendly. The waves rarely break over one or two feet, so young children are free to frolic in the water. Wonderful snorkeling is right on the point. During the Spring you can watch the whales literally jumping out of the water. Scott enjoys golfing and there are four world class golf courses within a five minute car ride. While Scott is golfing Deanne likes to go to the Spa at the Grand Wailea.

Fantastic return visit to our favorite Mana Kai unit

  • 5 of 5

My family has been lucky enough to stay in three different VRBOs at the Mana Kai over the past four years, including a top floor unit and a unit really close to the ocean side of the building. Each unit we visited was very nice but, without a doubt, this unit is our favorite of the three we have rented. When we had the chance to make our fourth visit to the Mana Kai, Scott's unit was an easy choice for our first-ever return visit to a unit. The length of time, level of thoughtfulness, and expense he took in renovating and furnishing the unit shows. We hope to return again in the not too distant future!

We rented the unit for two weeks over Thanksgiving. It was in excellent condition. Beautifully designed and furnished. A fully equipped kitchen. We needed the AC for a few of the humid days but otherwise the tropical breezes kept us cool.

The views, the beach walks, the adjacent snorkeling. Good food downstairs and an excellent Yoga studio in the lower level. We ate at many of the ower's recommended spots and we even cooked a few meals at home. WE'll BE BACK !

Fantastic property

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 just enjoyed a terrific vacation at this Condo. The unit has been beautifully renovated throughout and feels very luxurious yet comfortable. The owner has spared no expense on linens/towels, dishes/cooking items, beach equipment (2 chairs, 2 boogie boards, an umbrella) and A/C controls/fans. We absolutely loved the keyless entry....was perfect for our two kids who could run back to the room if they forgot something and taking walks on the beach without worrying about remembering a key was fantastic. We met many wonderful families during our stay and felt the Mana Kai has everything you need to make your stay on site for snacks, restaurant with great Happy Hour, activities desk for booking tours and beach rentals as well. The view from the lanai is lovely and we especially loved the way the property is lit up at night with tiki torches. If we could ever afford a vacation home this is the type of Condo we would love to create. Mana Kai is a ideally located resort with a beautiful view and well laid out grounds. You won't regret a stay in this Condo, you really won't!

Wonderful and Beautiful Inside and Out

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in several units at the Mana Kai every year since 2009, and another Kihei Condo Complex for many years before then. This unit was by far the best we have ever experienced in Maui! Top of the line throughout! It is such a treat to enter a unit and say WOW, this is really nice! The unit is beautifully furnished and the seating area and beds are all very comfortable. The flat screen TV rises from a console, so it can be viewed from the sitting area or while in bed! The kitchen is fully stocked, and everything was neatly stored, clean and in working order. The fridge also had some essential items and everything was labelled clearly with purchase dates. There was ample supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels, garbage bags and detergent to last over 3 weeks. The unit also had the best supplies ever for going to the beach. The lanai furniture is so perfect for the location. A high table with chairs all at rail height make for perfect sunset viewing. The Mana Kai is by far the best location all round. Located off Kihei Road thus no traffic noise. The complex has more than enough lounge chairs where you can sit right at the beachside, watch the whales and the ocean is at your feet. The pool area is great and always clean. The gardens and grass area all beautifully maintained. There is a grocery store right in the building which has all you'll ever need, and if so inclined, rent a stand up paddle board in a store right in the building! Security Guards are present in the building 24 hours for the safety and comfort of all those staying at the Mana Kai. This unit clearly shows the owners have gone the extra mile to ensure no details were overlooked. The owners have made a beautiful home for themselves in Maui. For those who are fortunate enough to stay in this unit, they will be forever grateful for their generosity in sharing it with others. This unit will leave no one disappointed in any way! Absolutely, over the top! And, on a final note, while in Maui, I received emails from the owner suggesting a place to go to see the surfers as the waves were awesome. I have to say, it was really neat to know they were thinking of us while we were enjoying their beautiful home! Nothing overlooked here and highly recommended!

Beautiful Vacation Rental

  • 5 of 5

I agree completely with the reviews from the other vacationers. I would like to add a little note about our experience.

Our travels dates were indefinite when we started planning our vacation. We sent several emails to the owner, Scott. He responded very quickly to all of our inquiries.

After signing the rental contract Scott sent to us a full email package with turn by turn directions on how to get to the condominium from the airport and detailed information on grocery stores, restaurants and activities on the island. Scott was like having our own personal travel agent.

The water in the ocean was clean. We enjoyed snorkeling and boogie boarding there.

We highly recommend this luxury vacation spot and this owner.

Our family spent a week here in early December for one of our daughter's wedding. Family members staying at other locations were jealous. What an incredible place. The pictures are great but really don't do the place full justice....incredible views, great location, beautiful beach and grounds, easy access, great Mana Kai staff, all the amenities, and very tastefully decorated. I'd say this is definately a "kid-friendly" location and beach. We saw kids of all ages using the beach. Our younger teenage daughters had a great time on the beach and in the pool....swimming, boogie boarding, paddle boarding, snorkeling, sunbathing, and beachcombing are just a few steps from your door. Mana Kai's self contained 5 Palms restaurant is exceptional, the general store has a little bit of just about everything, and the Surf Shack gear rental has a more than ample supply everything you'll need for land and water activities. Even the Tours/Activities desk people were a wealth of friendly knowledge without typical "tourist pressure-sales". Lots of shopping options are very close....from the touristy stuff to the Shops at Wailea. I'm not much of a golfer but the best courses on the island are just down the road. Our family was immensely happy to stay here, enjoying every minutes of it. In fact, we're already planning our next visit and will definately stay here again. Absolutely our highest possible recommendation!
