About Stephen M Darling
This is my second home -and I spend autumn, Holidays and spring there. Its furnished and equipped for comfort and easy times. A private garden amongst mature trees in a quiet neighborhood. Wake to the sound and smell of surf, walk the beach and relax.
Stephen M Darling purchased this House in 2005
Why Stephen M Darling chose Old Orchard Beach
This is a special neighborhood -in a grove of 100 year+ Oak trees -with year-round residents who care -and keep their homes up. Its not on the beach -but so much quieter; -especially evenings and mornings, than those houses on or near the beach. I hear the surf when I go to bed, and smell the seabreezes at night -the best of all worlds. Eash access from Boston and Portland -and a young, fun imformal community.
What makes this House unique
Good quiet sleeping location. Peaceful sitting out on the verandah or in the garden in the evenings. Shade trees to keep the house cool during the hot summer days, while sunny bright surrounding area.

Lovely house with updated amenities and pleasant decor.
This is a well-maintained house with updated bathrooms and lovely decor on a quiet neighborhood street. It was too far for my family to truck to beach with all of our gear, but at night we were close enough to have a pleasant walk to the beach with our dog. The fully stocked kitchen enabled us to eat breakfast, and lunch occasionally, for six. (Our daughters slept on the pull out sofa bed). We took advantage of partially shaded patio off of the dining room, and I felt at home as I stayed in one day and lounged with a few good books. The house is a quick 10 min walk to coffee shop for morning cinammon rolls. If we visit old orchard beach again, we will Be repeat customers
Nice vacation away from home
My husband and I stayed here with our daughter, son-in-law and 2 granddaughters in August. We had a lovely stay. The house was comfortable and clean. The neighborhood was perfect for walking and close to the beach, though we drove there when taking the children. The kitchen was well equipped and it was convenient to have Randy across the street when we needed help with the grill. Hopefully he found my wine opener! We would stay again if going back to the area.
GREAT STAY IN A BEAUTIFUL, COMFY HOME
My family and I had a WONDERFUL time at Somerset Cottage. The home is beautifully furnished/decorated in a casual style and was equipped with everything we needed. We really liked the area and its beautiful beach. Short drive into Portland, which is a pretty cool place. In closing any place you can have lobster and other fresh seafood, reasonably priced, every day is a great place to be;)
Beautiful. Spacious. Nestled in a quiet neighborhood.
We had a great time. We had enough room in the house between adults and kids to spread out between rooms. We loved the beautiful patio outback and spent a lot of time at the table for meals games and more. We would dedfinitelu come again. The only thing I might change is having central air in the house we had some humid days. Great house, great location. Definitely recommend to anyone and plan to stay again at some point.
We had a lovely stay at the Old Orchard cottage for our 6th year.
We had a lovely stay at Old Orchard Beach for our 6th year! We always appreciate the coziness and cleanliness of the cottage, as well as the easy access to the beach. The modern appliances and second shower are an added bonus for our family of 5.
We were looking for a place with enough space for teenagers to spread out, to cook and grill for ourselves, close to the beach and other adventures. This was just the place for us! We had perfect weather for as many beach days as we wanted, plus it was a central location to explore many of the other activities Maine has to offer. The house was in great condition, the local hosts were very helpful, and we completely recommend this property.
Old Orchard Beach is the top-rated sandy beach in New England and has one of the few remaining Piers, which continues to provide entertainment summer evenings for the young and young at heart. There are countless activities and pleasant day trips -or just relax on the beach. The Maine Mall, Freeport and Kittery Outlets, Old Port Habor, Sebago Lake, are just a few of the outings.
