My family and I just spent a wonderful weekend at Camp Davis. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing get-away this is the place. The scenery is just beautiful, as previously stated pictures don't do it justice. We enjoyed the walks through the recommended trails, especially to the picnic table in the woods overlooking one of the most beautiful views we have ever seen, don't miss this adventure!
I forgot to write a review after our stay. This is the place to unwind and let go; the best we have ever experienced by far! We come to the mountains every single year for many years and stay in different homes. We have stayed on this mountain many times before, but never this far up the road. The road was challenging for our aging 4 wheel drive Honda Element--but it finally made it up the road. We brought our 2 dogs, and they had a great time. Sadly we lost our labrador a couple of months ago, but we have great pics of him on the mountain. We didn't leave the cabin but once or twice in a week and that was perfect. If I could choose anywhere to stay in NC it would be HERE. Thank you so much! The steam shower was a joy.
My husband & I just returned from our 3rd stay at Camp Davis. Each time we go we can't wait to get there & hate having to leave. The views of Great Smoky Mtns Natl Park and the Blue Ridge Pkwy are beyond spectacular...photos don't do them justice...& the home is the perfect combination of rustic & lux. The artwork is beautiful, beds & furniture are comfy, the linens high quality, the kitchen is well furnished with newer appliances/dishes/pots/pans/ice maker and there is satellite tv/DVD w/surround sound/VCR, as well as wifi and a landline phone. Our cell carrier is ATT & we've never been able to get cell svc at Camp Davis so the addition of the landline & wifi this time were greatly appreciated! Some suggestions for first-timers: the drive up the mountain is an adventure itself & part of the fun, but it's steep, winding, narrow...there are switchbacks, steep drop-offs, "moguls," & in the fall the leaves completely cover the road in places. It's best to have a 4wd or high-clearance vehicle & just take it slow. It takes us anywhere from 20-30 minutes to get to the house once we turn off the main road & I would highly advise first-timers to get there before dark. It's not an easy or quick in & out situation, so for those wanting to constantly be on the go & close to lots of "attractions," this probably isn't the place for you. You'll want to bring all your groceries, including spices, plastic/foil wrap, ziplocks, containers for leftovers, etc., with you, as well as paper towels & tp. We come to Camp Davis to escape the rat race, to enjoy the amazing views, the peace & quiet, to stargaze at night, to hike & to reconnect with nature & each other. This time the weather was all over the chart...warm sunny days, rainy days, days we were in the clouds & a winter storm that dropped 3-4 inches of snow at Camp Davis & 22 inches on Mt. LeConte. It was beautiful beyond words & we were thankful that the power stayed on! Camp Davis is our definition of Heaven at 5,000+ ft elev. & we love EVERYTHING about it, starting with making our reservations thru Rachael Carter, who is wonderful to deal with...the epitome of friendliness & southern hospitality. Thank you for everything, Rachael, and to Mr. Davis for sharing his magical mountain hideaway with us once again. All the best to you both!!!
My husband and I just returned from a very nice stay at Camp Davis. We found the cabin to be exceptionally clean and comfortable. It's well equipped with nice linens, cookware, and dinnerware. Stocked with minimal non-perishables including some salt & pepper (no flour, sugar, spices, etc.) but that is just fine as I brought from home the items that I'd use. It's situated along a ridge top via a maintained gravel road with some tight switchbacks and steep grades. As with any rural location, advance meal planning and shopping is necessary. There are fantastic views in all directions and privacy! We arrived late on Tuesday night, Wednesday was spent touring the nearby historic sites at Oconaluftee, within the SMNP, doing some shopping, and spending the rest of our time just enjoying the cabin. Thursday was a full day of touring the park including Fontana Dam, Cades Cove, and Clingmans Dome. Our stay at Camp Davis was part of a longer tour including WV. We really like this area for its spectacular mountains, only wish we had more time here! Rachael was nice to work with and helpful to us. We've rented vacation properties all over the country and found this property to be nicely appointed and decorated...it's apparent that this cabin is cherished…we felt very much at home…thank you for sharing!
Camp Davis was an amazing place for me and my husband to retreat to for a week. The drive up was gorgeous and breathtaking and once we got to the cabin we couldn't believe the view. The pictures on the website do not do it justice. It was secluded and quiet. We were completely relaxed and didn't have a care in the world. Camp Davis was well furnished and everything was comfortable from the bed, to the hammock swings to the couch. We ventured to the Great Smokey Mountains and the Cherokee Reservations and fell in love with the whole area. The property manager was great to deal with. We had no problems at all and would love to come back and recommend this is anybody looking for a quiet getaway from the busy city life.
We've stayed at this home several times. Peace, quite and privacy makes this a very special place. This is defiantly our favorite mountain retreat . The house has been very well designed inside and out. It's clean and has all the comforts of home plus more. Mountain life should always be this good! We spent a lot of time just checking out the view from the wrap around deck. It's an incredible view of the Southern Appalachian Mountains, including the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. As you can imagine, this vast view changes by the hour. This property also connects to a really cool ridge trail, that will give you some great day hikes and when you come back down from your days hike, relax and enjoy setting in the steam room. Need we say more, we couldn't ask for better mountain living then this? <smile>
