Overview

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms + Loft, 4.5 Baths, (Sleeps 11)

Tucked in amongst palms, magnolias and oaks in world famous “Old Grayton Beach” sits Casa Sombra, a beautiful architect designed retreat for the discriminating beach traveler. This “shady house” is a stunning home located in historic Old Grayton Beach about 300 yards from the white, sugar sandy beaches of the Gulf of Mexico and the assortment of shops and restaurants that make up the funky and eclectic Grayton Beach.

This beach house is beautifully decorated with lots of local, colorful artwork to excite the senses and stimulate the imagination. It has its own private pool, that can be heated, and an outdoor fireplace set amongst the indigenous tropical vegetation. Two identical master suites, one on each level, have access to their own outdoor porches overlooking the pool area.

There are four bedrooms with an additional space set aside for a daybed off the upstairs game room (children only). The bedrooms include two kings, a queen, a pair of bunk beds, and a day bed, sleeping 11 people total. Sorry, no pets are allowed and there is no smoking.

The house has an elegant, spacious feel with high ceilings, complimented with ceiling fans and specially designed lighting to accent key spaces and the colorful artwork. Heart pine floors adorn the major living areas and the kitchen is equipped with Wolf and Subzero appliances and the finest cookware for even the most accomplished chef. Casa Sombra also has surround sound stereo speakers located throughout the house, and also outside speakers in the back of the house overlooking the pool.

There is plenty of space to move about with almost 3,000 square feet of interior space and an additional 1,400 square feet of covered porches for outdoor living. From the upstairs porch, there are tranquil views of Western Lake. Ample terrace space is provided for comfortable pool lounging. Two families can easily enjoy the house, yet maintain their own measured degree of privacy.

Bordered by two state parks, one which includes Western Lake, an excellent natural preserve for kayaking, fishing and crabbing, Grayton Beach has long been recognized as one of the finest beaches in the world. The town of Grayton Beach, founded in 1890, is one of the oldest planned beach communities in Florida’s gulf coast and has been recognized by Florida’s Governor and Cabinet as a Florida “treasure”.

Located on Highway 30A, between Destin and Panama City Beach, there is plenty to do within a short distance. Shopping, amusement parks, several superb golf courses, tennis, fishing, and other water sports are all close by as are many excellent restaurants. Bring or rent bikes and enjoy the bike trail that links the nearby coastal communities of Seaside, Watercolor, Seagrove and Rosemary Beach.

We book our house Saturday to Saturday during the weekly peak spring break and summer periods. Additional charges include: Pool heating and Outdoor Gas fireplace extra charge- $40/day or $220/week.

About Julia Wallace

Welcome to Casa Sombra (House in the Shade), our home in Old Grayton Beach! We finished building Casa Sombra in May 2009, and are excited to be a part of the Grayton Beach community. Our children (29, 26 and 21) grew up on the beaches of Grayton, so we highly recommend it, especially for families with children. There is so much to do from crabbing on the beaches and in Western Lake, skim boarding, or just being lazy on the beach. We do hope you can find time to visit us soon!

Why Julia Wallace chose Beaches of South Walton

Casa Sombra is located on a dead end street in old Grayton, so there is not a steady stream of traffic going by the house on the way to the Red Bar. We have a fabulous view of Western Lake with public access across the street.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We loved every minute of our time in Casa Sombra. Your home is beautiful and

perfectly designed. We felt like we were staying at a 5-star resort with all the

comforts and luxuries.

We hope to be back next summer!

Spectacular House with Wonderful Owner

  • 5 of 5

This house is incredible and in a great location in Grayton. Our group included 3 couples with an infant and 2 toddlers. The house exceeded our expectations and everyone (including the kids) absolutely loved it! You also couldn't ask for a better owner than Julia. She was amazing and very accommodating to make sure we had a great stay. Where do I start with the house - the layout and finishes are 5 stars on every level. Also, because the house is in such a great location in Grayton, we were able to experience our favorite spots in GB as often as we wanted without a lot of effort (a significant luxury with young children) The pool area was very nice and we got a lot of use out of it, despite getting plenty of beach time as well. I really cannot say enough here to do the house justice. Thank you to Julia for being such a great host! We will definitely be back.

Best kept secret in Grayton Beach

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Casa Sombra. We have been coming to 30A for over 12 years. We couldn't have been happier with the entire experience at Casa Sombra. The location, while off from the beach, was just a short walk to the water's edge. The close proximity to the Red Bar as well as to other local Grayton shops was super nice. The pool was perfect (my girls never wanted to get out). The layout of the home was perfect with a master downstairs and upstairs. The wrap around porchs were incredible as well - particularly the bed swing on the upstairs porch. Casa Sombra is the best kept secret in Grayton Beach.

UNBELIEVABLE!!!

  • 5 of 5

After only one night on our 10th trip to Grayton Beach, renting different places each time, we have found our "forever" vacation spot. No lack of attention and detail on this house and the best equipped kitchen yet. Looking forward to the week ahead and oh yeah, the beds are a dream! On a scale of one to five, we voted to give it a six!!!!!

Family Spring Break

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a Spring Break trip. We had another family join us, so we had 5 children ad 4 adults, and the house accommodated with no problems! the backyard is spectacular and Julia responded to any questions almost immediately. I do not have a single negative thing to say about this place, and would, and will, rent again in a heartbeat. Just spectacular

Family vacation; Six adults three children under seven.

  • 5 of 5

We had previously stayed in seaside florida, which is about 5 miles from Grayton Beach. Grayton Beach is by far my kind of place. From this location there was an easy walk to the beach, maybe three city blocks, and then another 100 yards to the water. The only negative to the beach is that they allow Trucks to drive on the beach. However, this was only a problem on the day of our arrival. Even then, it wasn't really a problem, it just did not add to the scenery. The water is amazing and the sand just right for sand castles. Back to the house. The house is very nice and perfect for families. There is a master bedroom with a very large bathroom attached. On the first floor, there was also a very large and open kitchen with an adjoining dinning room and living room. All of the rooms were decorated nicely with adequate lighting. The kitchen was equipped with everything that one might need. But you might want to bring extra paper towels, salt and pepper, or any other spice which you might want for cooking. The kitchen is equipped with all high end appliances which were great. There is also a small bathroom on the first floor that came in handy. Going upstairs you will find another large bedroom and attached large bath, a smaller bedroom with a regular sized bed and bathroom, and a larger bedroom with bunk beds for four, this room also had it's own bathroom. Our two year old granddaughter slept in a little room that was just right for her. I think that it was meant to be a reading area, not really sure, but it worked perfect for her. Off these three bedrooms, there was a very nice lounging area with couch chairs, laundry and TV. All of the upstairs bedrooms open to large porches that have nice furniture and a giant swing. As you walk out the back door, you are first met with an alarm system that sounds every time someone opens the door. There is a button to push that will quiet the alarm, but I think each person forgot at least 5 times. The alarm is really a good thing for very young children. So, once through the door, you go out onto a very nice large deck with a large dining table. Down several steps onto the deck and the great pool which a water fall fountain. This was the perfect afternoon retreat for the kids and parents. The only negative to this house was the bedroom with the regular size bed, my daughter said that the mattress was in need of updating. Loved this house and would recommend it to anyone.
