Beautiful Sunday River Maine! Get ready for the vacation of your life!

Perched high upon the beautiful Sunday River... Maine’s Powder Ridge, The Heights provides you with an extraordinary view of the majestic peaks, which comprise the Mahoosuc Mountain range and the valley beyond. Its construction just completed, The Heights is a spectacular, 7500 square foot, contemporary home with 2000 square feet of glass frontage, privately situated on five acres of woodland to maximize serenity and seclusion.

The Heights offers nine bedrooms, including six master king suites (four of which have their own private balconies) with luxury linens, a Queen bedroom, three bunk rooms, ten and a half bathrooms, two towering stone fireplaces in the vaulted living rooms, two gas fireplaces, two eight-man hot tubs (for your viewing of the fireworks at Sunday River on Saturday nights), an office complete with Computer and high speed wireless Internet access.

Added Details:: The Heights is two separate units... The Eagle's Nest and The Bobcat's Den, which can be rented as a complete entity or independently. Its unique award-winning floor plan designed by KLM, allows for free flowing multi-level living as one full unit or two separate locked-off units with completely private entrances.

The units are completely different, yet uniquely spectacular and fully soundproofed. The goal of this design is to provide luxurious accommodations for small corporate retreats or for large family get-aways. Beautifully appointed with classy, comfortable furniture, we are targeting groups of families and executives.

Amenities:: We have almost every amenity available! For sleeping accommodations, there are 5 master King Suites with private baths, luxury linens and three have private balconies. There is an enormous game room with a regulation size pool table & Two Huge 65 inch HD TVs with surround sound systems. We have central air-conditioning, two stone fireplaces with plenty of firewood, 2 gas fireplaces, a private in-ground heated swimming pool, and two private 8-man hot tubs.

In each kitchen, we have a dishwasher, an ice-making refrigerator, a coffee-maker, stove with oven, microwave, and all the dishes and pots and pans you could use! Downstairs, there is a washer and dryer in each unit, with an iron and board. We have a large Bose stereo with CD player for use indoors or out at the pool. Microsoft X-Box in each unit. Wireless DSL Internet throughout the house and a Pentium 4 Computer on the Bobcat's side. There are mountain bikes, kayaks and canoes at your disposal. Bed linens & towels are provided.

The Great Outdoors:: During the summer months, kayaking, canoeing, whitewater rafting, hiking, and biking are available. Rent an ATV and go exploring with a guided tour or on your own. Fishing Trips and supplies are available. Go horseback riding, or on a carriage ride. Or moose and animal viewing. Relax and go to the movies. Available for your use at the house will be kayaks, mountain bikes, snowshoes, sleds, and snow tubes. Nearby are a miniature golf course, a huge water slide, shops in historic Bethel, and many restaurants and nights spots.

A great way to see western Maine is by throwing on a pair of hiking boots and just walking out the front door. One of the best spots is Grafton Notch State Park, located along the Maine-New Hampshire border, just minutes away from The Heights. The most famous footpath in the world, the Appalachian Trail, passes through the park on the way to its finish in Mt. Katahdin. Throughout the park you will see waterfalls, caves, and incredible mountain vistas.

Guestbook comments from the manager

My wife and I had our wedding reception at The Heights during Memorial Day weekend 2012 and I also rented the house for a weekend in 2008. The house is absolutely beautiful and the owners do an excellent job of helping you prepare for entertaining a large group of people. All of my guests kept commenting on what a great house we rented and how beautiful the view was from almost every room. The house is clean, fun, well stocked with all the essentials. It is nearly impossible not to have a good time here. The owners are well connected in the area and are able to provide excellent recommendations on who to use for catering (Gourmet in a Pinch = Excellent), groceries, spa services, as well as what to do in this area of Maine. I would recommend this house for wedding receptions, family/friend reunions, ski vacations, and large group getaways.

Our family bi-annual vacation in Maine

  • 5 of 5

In July, our family had our bi-annual vacation in the "Heights".  We're a large family, normally 23 people, missing 2 this year because of summer school.  We had just a fantastic time at the "Heights".  Unfortunately, we had a lot of rain during our week, but everyone still had a great time. There were a lot of games played, movies watched, hiking, golfing at the Sunday River Golf Course, some canoeing on the last day (which was glorious weatherwise), and shopping by the gals in Bethel and also in North Conway; in the town and at the outlet stores.Dinners enjoyed in the Pool House were awesome!  The home is very well supplied and the sleeping worked out great for all of us.  We even got to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary in the Pool House.  Food was catered by the "Good Cook", I believe is the name.We would highly recommend this home for your vacation!  We came back with many wonderful memories!

Owner's Response: Hello Wine Guy, And thank you for your review... so happy that you all enjoyed your trip. Even in spite of the sometimes-inclement weather, Sunday River is always a wonderful choice for vacation because it is in the glorious State of Maine. Looking at the sweeping vistas from the one of the decks at the house allows you to feel at one with nature. Every season has its draw to us as a family.... winter and summer are the high seasons, however Fall and Spring should not be overlooked. The foliage and the golf of Fall are spectacular.... and Spring - what about White water rafting?! I grew up in Maine and I am so happy to have a vacation home there now!

This place is amazing! The best view on the mountain.

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time staying here. The Murphys are incredibly gracious hosts. All beds were made up very comfortably and there were plenty of towels and wash clothes for all. This house has plenty of space to come together as a group and also to get away if you need some quiet time! We will definitely be back.

Awesome experience for a large group!

  • 5 of 5

I absolutely LOVED my time at this home. We were a huge group (8 couples with kids) and we rented the entire house. There was so much space, that we sometimes got lost!! The owners, especially Susan, were a joy to work with. There is also many things to do in the area. I have yet to find another home like this one. Highly recommended it!!

This was a beautiful house with a beautiful view.

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 19 members really enjoyed staying in this home. The pool and pool house, the decks with the mountain view, the movie theater, the many king suite rooms, the spacious kitchens with enough room for all to have a seat.. there were no complaints. We did many excursions from the house which included Franconia in NH, Acadia National Park and also did a fishing trip with Captain Carl Bois and of course had a big fish fry that night at the house! The owners were great to work with. Just an absolutely beautiful place to visit and stay!

Wonderful home for large group

  • 5 of 5

We are a group of couples that travel together. On this trip we had 6 couples. The house is huge. The main floor has large widows all around with beautiful views of he mountains. Two large kitchens, an office and multiple sitting areas make for a great area to visit. The level below has pool table, foosball, theater room and washer and dryers. Great area to hang out. The bedrooms all have baths and are arranged well for privacy. The swimming pool is beautiful and heated. Two hot tubs outside that are really nice after hiking up long hills. There is a large pool house with kitchen. The area around Bethel is beautiful. We went on several hikes. The guys golfed at several of the courses in the area. Fly fishing all around. Old wooden bridge about a mile from the home. Nice area to sit on the river. Drove in to Gorham NH and went on moose tour and visited Mt. Washington. We were there 9 nights and had a great time. You can rest or find plenty to do. There are a few maintenance issues that need attention and that is the only negative I would say. They were minor and did not interrupt our stay. The owners are easily available if needed. I would highly recommend this home and would love to visit again.

Wonderful Reunion Location

  • 5 of 5

Our annual girlfriend's (and spouses) reunion was held this year at the Heights and what a wonderful time we had during the week we were there. The house was roomy, well supplied, and located in a beautiful area of our country. The weather was unusually warm, so the pool was a welcomed benefit and was used every day. Some of the activities we enjoyed were cog train up Mt. Washington, browsing the cute shops in Bethel, hiking and picnicking in Grafton Notch Park, zip lining and aerial ride at Sunday River Ski area, and daily trips to the local grocery store. The area has nice restaurants, but we prepared most of our meals there at the house enjoying the lovely views from the windows and decks.

Owner's Response: How wonderful that you had the opportunity to enjoy some of the best that Maine has to offer, especially our little Town of Bethel! (The coast is beautiful but gets so much publicity!) We are so happy that you enjoyed your vacation so fully! Susan and Arthur

Map

Car: recommended

The Sunday River/Bethel area offers a vacationer many options for outdoor activities. Included is, of course, some of the Northeast's best snowboarding, snow tubing, and skiing, both downhill and cross-country, as well as ice-skating, snow shoeing, sledding, dog sledding, sleigh rides and ski-mobiling. During the summer months, kayaking, canoeing, whitewater rafting, hiking, and biking are available. The Sunday River Golf Course with design by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. will become one of your favorite destinations when it opens in the Summer of 2004.

Golf: The Sunday River Golf Course with design by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. will become one of your favorite destinations when you visit. Just a short drive away from the doorstep of The Heights, it is already one of the most beautiful courses in the Northeast.

There are also many other spectacular golf courses in this area. The Bethel Inn offers one of the most popular courses in the United States. However, there are so many choices available, one could visit a different golf course every day of a week's vacation and never play on the same course.

Ski: The Sunday River/Bethel area offers a vacationer many options for outdoor activities. Included is, of course, some of the Northeast's best snowboarding, snow tubing, and skiing, both downhill and cross-country, as well as ice-skating, snow shoeing, sledding, dog sledding, sleigh rides and snowmobiling.

The Sunday River Ski Resort, located about 2 miles from the front door of The Heights, has over 120 trails that connect eight different mountain peaks and has runs for every taste and ability. Snowboarders have 4 different terrain parks, including a super pipe and a half pipe. The Sunday River Learn-To-Ski Program is designed to get even the most beginner of skiers or boarders up and moving.
