About Jim Davis

My wife, Caroline and I own a busy real estate company called New South, Realtors in Madison, Alabama. We purchased this lake property as an investment in hopes that some day we would retire there.

Jim Davis purchased this house in 2004

Why Jim Davis chose Guntersville Lake

We purchased this property in 2004 as a vacation property. We used it weekends since we are avid boaters and love the lake. In 2009, we decided to offer it to the public as a vacation property. The interest has been far beyond anything we expected. People that have stayed there brag about how much fun they have staying there. We have many guests who return year after year! Many of the lake properties have a lot of steps to get to the lake. Ours is a gentle slop and is easy to access. If You're a Golfer we are only 2 miles from Gunters' Landing a great golf course. Consider our home for your next vacation... We are confident that you will enjoy your stay in our wonderful lake house!

Guestbook comments from the manager

thanks for all your help, we really enjoyed are week at the house, it was

just great, everything you would want or need and right on the lake. the fishing

in the river was fair but in the cove by the house was good so that worked out

great. I would certainly recommend it my friends, looking forward to our next

Huge house needs cleaning and better management

  • 2 of 5

If you need a place with a lot of space, this house has it. The bedrooms are spread out, and the furniture in the house is comfortable. The location is very convenient to everything, although is on the other side of the lake from the state park. We stayed 10/8-11 (mom, grandparents, kids 12 & 15). It is handicapped accessible. The location is in a small cove with lots of surrounding homes. If you don't like crowds, this may not be the place for you. It was fall break, so it was quiet.

When we got there, I looked for a knife and the flatware drawer was near empty: all of the clean dishes were still in the dishwasher. Was a little irritated at having to unload someone else's dishes. After my son played pool for about an hour, his socks were filthy. The linens were OK - the pillow case in one bedroom was ripped in half. There were plenty of replacement linens and towels. The ceiling fan in one of the king rooms was so dirty we couldn't run it. We couldn't figure out how to turn on any of the ceiling fans. The patio furniture is plentiful, but really worn. If you plan on a long stay, there's really nowhere to put everyone's clothes. There are no closets or dressers in the twin bedrooms, but there are 3 dressers in a king room - would be helpful to move those.

The biggest thing for us was that we didn't get our deposit back until I called 10 days after checkout. Only then did I get a VRBO email confirming the credit. I was told by the property manager that sometimes it takes weeks to a month for it to "come through," but we have rented many times from VRBO and never waited more than a few days for return of deposit. He was also slow to return my text messages with questions during our stay, even though none of them were urgent (I would place a call in that case).

This house needs a deep cleaning, and a good decluttering. There is a lot of antiques and breakables, and way too much kitchen stuff. If you have little kids, be aware that you will have to watch them closely so that nothing gets broken.

Owner's Response: Laure, Thanks for your comments about your stay. There is no excuse for the house not being clean and we have given the cleaning company notice that it will not be tolerated. We will be doing extensive remodeling and repairs this winter which will include new flooring that will be much easier to keep clean. The place stays booked non-stop which makes normal maintenance difficult. We've been renting this home out for years, and have had many families with small children and had no issues with anything being broken. The fans are on remote control and the controls must have been misplaced. As for the deposit refund, we are at the mercy of VRBO, and the credit card companies. We do our best to process them quickly but that does not always work. If you would like to give us another try will do our best to improve.

Vacation at 306 Morrow Dr. Guntersville

  • 4 of 5

We LOVED the house!! It was perfect for my family. I didn't know my youngest was such a good pool player. The beds were so comfortable. Bathrooms were very nice and clean. My daughter enjoyed the balcony for catching up on her summer reading. Everything about the house made for a very enjoyable week. It was very accessible to town and a boat launch. The boat slip was really nice to have for our boat. The water depth was good and no problems with sea grass. Fishing off the pier was fun and the chairs and other furniture was great to have for resting. The pier is very nice for relaxing and fishing. Another plus factor was that we got to bring our dogs which love the lake as much as us. The only negative was the yard could use a little work . A little too weedy for me because of snakes. The "pretty azaleas" were a disappointment. Overall, everything was great and we had a lovely time at your rental home. Would look forward to staying again.

Family get away

  • 3 of 5

Home was nice and roomy. But only 1 of the bedrooms had working tvs and cable, this made it a little difficult with the children being able to watch what they wanted. The dock is in need of repair. The book with list of restaurants and attractions in the area really is out of date. Boat rental in the area is very expensive, where the brochures listed some at $170 for an eight hour day, when we called to reserve a boat the price we were quoted $260 for the day..big difference in price .
