About Sylvia Lindig

Escaping the World of Europaen Architecture, I came to Maui for a longer Vacation meeting my Husband on this Beautiful Island. Falling in Love is one of the easiest Things to do on Maui.

After finding this Home in 2005, we fully remodeled and updated the Residence.

I am glad and happy to be able to share the Beauty and Privacy of this Home with as many People as possible, to share and find back what we all so often loose through our busy lives,

-Silence, Beauty, Serenity, and Peace of Mind-

The Natural State of Human Being.

When I first arrived on Maui, and stepped on Maui's soil two decades ago, it felt like- coming Home.

Only after some Years has passed, I understood the Magical Power of Maui Energy, gently guiding us to find what we could loose- our self.

Sylvia Lindig purchased this house in 2005

Why Sylvia Lindig chose East Maui

Haiku is located between Upcountry Makawao, the North Shore Maui, and the beautiful Town of Paia. My Home offers 1000+ Acres Privacy Views, yet one minite to Play ground and Park, or Restaurants, Dance and Yoga Events at Haiku Cannery.

What makes this house unique

Hale Haiku allows, supports and strengthens the most important aspect of our human life- the Healing of Body- Mind- and Soul-

Just Silence and Nature allows our Human to remember, to get in touch with the inner child, the wisdom of instinct and insides, our forgotten dreams, and so much more.

Fantastic Maui vacation rental.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I and a friend stayed for 10 days this November for a kiting and surf get a way. Great place to come home to after a long day on the water. The most "house" you will get for your money on Maui. Very private in a great jungle setting. The steep driveway and a few harmless bugs are all part of the adventure. No problem at all. We plan on renting this house again for our next trip to Maui.

Positives outweigh the negatives - good value overall.

  • 4 of 5

Other reviews describe some of the negatives: very steep and narrow driveway, house needs some repairs, jungle setting with dampness, bugs and loud frogs; but these are offset by the positives in our opinion: amount of house for the price was a relative bargain, master suite/bath has good separation from rest of house, overall very private, three bathrooms nice, adequate kitchen, central location on island a good balance. A couple of minor complaints - breakers to much of house turned off when we arrived (OK once we figured it out) and no sundries left at house (at most VRBO we stay at supplies not used up by prior guests are left for next renters - not here, no shampoo, laundry soap, etc.) Why clean them all out if they provide convenience/value for next guests?

Stunning, just as lovely as the picture!

  • 4 of 5

My boyfriend and I stayed in this lovely house for four days for our special Maui vacation. I am not easily impressed but I have to say I was beyond pleased with this home. Unique architecture, classy decorations, spacious rooms and a stunning view! And for that price! I wonder that they do not charge more. Similar booking in our previous vacations have often ran double. The host is generous and just up the road. I found him and his wife available for all our questions. I loved the stairway down to the home. It was large and they warned us beforehand not suitable for handicapped scenarios. But being fit and able I found it a charming addition, adding a feeling of enchantment to the whole scenario. Descending staircases like that in full view of virgin Maui Forrest was a real treat for me . I visit the islands every few years and I know in Maui those kind of views are becoming increasingly rare. I am giving it four stars out of five because there was not much of a lawn. However, the wrap around deck was large enough and the house so extremely spacious that I never felt cramped in any way. To the contrary I actually felt very cozy. There were some small repairs being made on the deck which were clearly labeled for safety. Again for the price no problem. I could see they are always hard at work improving the place and it really did not cause any inconvenience of a lasting impression. I found the interior of the house itself well maintained. The mattresses were top of the line and the amenities more than adequate. We never used the iron stove fireplace in the living room, but it was a nice thought that it was there should we encounter a rainy day. The art on the walls caught my interest again and again. Whoever decorated this place knew what they were doing and spared no expense. Again, I am still in shock that we found a place this nice for that price! I loved being in the thick of the jungle, surrounded by nature while living in elegance. It was a dreamy combination. I would just like to extend a warm thank you to our hosts who made our dream vacation so memorable. God bless.

Pictures Aren't Always Worth a Thousand Words

  • 1 of 5

We arrived at the home with excitement, unfortunately, it did not live up to our expectations or the VRBO photos.

We have been to Maui many times and have always stayed in a Vacation Home. We have never been disappointed until this stay. The driveway is STEEP and difficult to maneuver. Although noted by the owner in their description, there are nearly 40 steps down to the Hale. This created difficulty with luggage. Totally unsuitable for the elderly or handicapped.

The decking is in terrible condition with cracked, split & peeling wood. The lanai furniture was molded and the table was filthy, not to mention the DANGER sign on the stairs to the small yard below. The STEEP drop-off on all sides makes it totally unsafe for children.

Both the interior and exterior is in need of repair. We put in a call to the owner regarding Fire Alarms that continued to beep throughout the night. It took two days to get a response and the problem was not fixed.

Labels are stuck onto surfaces all over the house noting rules to follow. On every door leading to the outside, was an 11x14 bold EXIT sign in black and red. I have never seen this before, and it made the interior look cheap, messy and unwelcoming (a nice "Welcome" book would suffice).

Beds are supremely uncomfortable,. The Master bathroom also features a Bidet. It felt both out of place and utilitarian. The built-in bath-tub (though pretty) was very difficult for me to enter or exit, and I'm 5'6". Sink was not seated well.

All windows were excessively dirty, impeding your view. The kitchen had few supplies for preparing a nice meal after a long day of adventure, and were in mostly poor repair.

The master bedroom has a strange, unfurnished room off the side, with mouse droppings all around it. There were lots of bugs around the screens, making it obvious that this room was rarely cleaned. This area gave the bedroom an uncomfortable feel. The 2 HUGE closets, almost the size of small rooms, had few hangers and only one shelf. There is no dresser or chest of drawers, only a rickety table with a piece of material on top.

Furnishings are inferior, nor do they convey the tropical surroundings of the island. The hale sits in a bowl, so your only view is of the trees surrounding you above. The invasive tree frogs were LOUD at night.

I hate to write negative reviews, but this home was very poorly managed and maintained! A complete renovation is in order.

Check out the MANY alternative homes Maui offers. Wish I had

Owner's Response: You rented this house seeing the pictures and knowingly there are steps to the house which is also in the description what the exact amount of steps is. VRBO message was received the day after your arrival but I responded a few hours after. My husband's cell phone is also labeled on the outside of the refrigerator door, but he was not contacted at all. Unfortunately, there are an incredible amount of illegal bed and breakfast homes who do not follow the county council requirement and inspections on Maui. As we have, the notes and the signs are placed for the county B&B approval, as they are a requirement by law. The kitchen has a full kitchen with many, many supplies. We have taken a lot of supplies over to the home over time. The side room is used for a lot of people who want to put an extra bedroom to put an airbed, for example. It is carpeted and screened. One of the requirements for parents is to have every child supervised at all times inside and outside the home. It is a requirement which parents have to sign before renting this house. I apologize if my cleaner did not notice only 2 hangers. We never disclosed our closet with every amount of hangers. However, there is normally about 80 hangers in each room closet. Everything is a normal, standard, short-term rental setting. For anything extra, we should have been notified prior to arrival.

Very comfortable and the view was amazing

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in March 2017. The drive from the airport to the house was beautiful. When we arrived we were in a isolated jungle. The birds were singing. The house was very comfortable. The drive to the beach was about 15 minutes. There is a little market close by for incidentals. (shop by airport at Costco or Safeway on your way up. It's a little cheaper). We opened the Windows for the breeze and it was nice. It rained one day and was very refreshing and relaxing. The birds and the frogs sing you to sleep at night. We went to Hana, Kiehi, Lahainna and McKenna. All within 30 mins to 45 min drives. Except Haha but it's a 8 min drive to the highway. This is a great place to stay to do something different. We always stayed next to the beach on our other trips. This was a nice change. The house has a steep driveway and a long stairway down to house so make sure you are able to climb stairs. The house needs a little TLC but I am sure the salty air and humidity is very hard on the house. Someone had said the Windows wouldn't open. If you remove the screens you can gently coax the Windows open. My only suggestion to the owner is maybe get a couple of standing fans. There are ceiling fans but some don't work so well. All in all this was one of our favorite stays in Maui. Thank you for this experience.

A Great Secluded Home

  • 4 of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay during the month of February. You are definitely in the jungle and have much privacy. The home is centrally located on the island and makes for easy traveling throughout. The only hiccups: when we arrived there was no TP in any of the bathrooms. Finally found where it was located the next morning. And during our stay, we could not find how to turn on the lights in the living room. We were usually out or playing cards in the dining room, so didn't need the lights. But it is still a mystery. If you don't mind a steep driveway or stairs down to the house, this is a wonderful house!!
