Play. Relax. Repeat...at the Doublejack Guesthouse!

Taking its name from the mining term to describe a two-man rock drilling team, the Doublejack Guesthouse is perched hillside in the heart of Old Bisbee, just southeast of Tucson, Arizona. This guesthouse offers dramatic panoramic views of historic downtown Bisbee and Mexico.

Built in 1895, before Arizona even became a state, this fully restored and charming one-bedroom miner’s cottage is located along an old mule path turned staircase above street-level public parking – accessible via just enough stairs to feel healthy! Walk to fine dining, arts, museums, galleries, evening entertainment, and historic attractions; watch great birding; access hiking trails right above the house; and relax and enjoy gorgeous sunsets and stargazing from your private deck.

The Doublejack Guesthouse offers king-sized bed accommodations, a fully equipped kitchen, standard-size refrigerator with ice maker, central air conditioning and heating, claw foot bathtub & walk-in double shower, flat screen monitor with DVD/VCR player, movie library, iPod docking station with radio and CD player, wireless high speed Internet (WI-FI), and complimentary locally roasted coffee and fixings for breakfast.

About Bob Klein

Tucson Magazine named Bisbee, Arizona “Best Place to Get out of Town” for 2009, but we discovered this charming historical mining town on a road trip years ago. It was late afternoon and the sun was just setting on the red-colored mountains that surround Bisbee when we drove into town for the very first time. It was like we were looking at a picture-perfect postcard! One year later we came back for a second visit and it was during this visit that we bought a 100-year-old boarding house (which we made into our home) and the 110-year-old miner's cottage (now the Doublejack Guesthouse) next door. We love it here! Your hosts, Jeff & Bob.

Why Bob Klein chose Tucson & Southern Arizona

Bisbee is a friendly and accepting community which offers everything from fine dining to old-west saloons, mining history, Victorian architecture, great hiking and world-class birding opportunities.

What makes this cottage unique

Whether you come for a weekend getaway or spend the whole week, you won’t run out of things to do or places to eat at. From a stone-baked natural pizzeria to a gourmet take-out café offering a smoothie, juice and espresso bar, one won’t go hungry in this town! Bisbee offers something for everyone – fun things to do, unique lodging, art galleries, and loads of shopping. In 2008 Arizona Highways named Café Roka and in 2009 Bisbee Breakfast Club among the top 25 restaurants in all of Arizona. History buffs will discover an award-winning Smithsonian affiliate, the Bisbee Mining and Historical Museum. For the adventurous, there is the underground Queen Mine Tour. One of the best ways to experience Bisbee is to just get out of your car and walk around the charming alleys, stairways and sidewalks of Old Bisbee. Come with your sense of adventure and leave with a renewed spirit!

Perfect stay! We will return. Best location in town.

  • 5 of 5

We arrived on a Tuesday and left on a Friday. Only negative is we wish we had booked a longer stay. The positive is we will return. Doublejack Guesthouse exceeded all expectations. The owner met us upon arrival to give us personalized tour of the cottage and brought us later fresh bread and coffee beans. The cottage is perfect for a couple plus dog with a sunny porch with a view, living/eating area that opens to porch, extremely comfortable bed and nice quality bedding and DVR with plenty of movie selections. The large double headed shower and a bathtub to die for was just so nice after a day walking Old Bisbee. THE best part of the stay was location, location, location. Just around the corner is the historic beautiful Methodist church with two other beautiful churches 5 minutes away. Roam up the road from the small parking lot to find some beautiful walls and gates homeowners have invested in an artistic way.... Go down to Brewery Gulch road taking it to the special Mimosa Market and Muheim House or to the brewery and restaurant and saloon etc.... 5 minute walk. Go up Main Street into Tombstone Canyon for a great walk then take the top road Clawson Ave back to the cottage. The center of Old Bisbee is only 5 minutes away where you can find golf cart tours if you can't walk too much...short stroll. This is an extremely dog friendly town with our dog welcomed on many business porches and inside bars. Parking was no problem for us and we had two cars. There are stairs to the cottage so make sure that is something you can do... Worth it for the views, quiet, and location. We enjoyed cooking our meals here at night in the well equipped kitchen after a day spent exploring.

Rave Review for the Doublejack!

  • 5 of 5

We just have to give Doublejack Guesthouse in Bisbee, AZ. another rave review. Our hosts Jeff and Bob are warm, helpful and also respectful of our privacy. We found the thoughtful gifts of granola, milk, homemade bread from a local bakery, fresh eggs, freshly-squeezed mango juice waiting for us, as well as fresh beans from a local coffee roaster that we could grind in a handy coffee grinder. We were grateful that we didn’t need to worry about going out to get supplies, when we woke up the first morning. The house is well-equipped with everything you need from appliances to dishes and tools in a full kitchen. Everything worked great and Bob was on hand, if by chance something didn’t.

The house itself is lovely and warm with clean, comfortable and very tasteful furnishings. The art on the walls and other decorations are fascinating, like the iron antiques found excavated from around the house and the stones containing famous area minerals. Though the house is small with one bedroom, a bathroom and a kitchen/living area, it feels spacious because of all the light streaming through the window. The adjoining patio overlooking the town and canyon, serves as an extra, wonderful space to have breakfast or dinner or just to relax with a book. I loved the bathroom with its double-headed shower and separate, clawfoot tub. Though I am a “shower person”, I found myself sinking into the tub twice during the visit with candlelight, music and bubblebath. The deep purple walls were soothing. It was heavenly.

We found lots of helpful information for finding our way around the town and enjoying the galleries, restaurants and shops as well as the town’s fascinating history. Built on a series of steeply rising terraces, Bisbee is unique and picturesque with its winding, narrow streets and helpful, friendly people, eager to share their stories and their time. There is an extensive collection of DVD's and videos.

After we became familiar with the town, we started exploring some of the wonderful natural attractions in the area, such as Kartchner Caverns, (excellent), Chiricaua National Monument (“land of the standing up rocks”) and hiking in San Pedro Riparian Natural Area and Ramsey Canyon—all within an easy day’s outing. Natural beauty and birds abound. Our hosts feed the birds on our private patio overlooking the town below and also provided bird books for those of us who are not familiar with southwestern birds. We'll be back.

Doublejack is the place to stay in Bisbee

  • 5 of 5

What to love about the Doublejack.... A warm greeting and meeting Bob and Trixie. A comfortable, clean, nicely decorated, and very functional place to stay. A perfect couple's spot. The walk in shower (not shown in the pics) The coffee beans The deck and the hummingbirds Watching the B on the hillside light up at night Being in the community of Bisbee rather than down in town The Doublejack is a unique place to stay.... Far better than a hotel.... And you get so much more. There was plenty to do for a week stay and the house and deck was a great hang out for the days we wanted to do nothing. Don't let the stairs scare you. Once your bag is up the hill it is no big deal. Bisbee is like visiting a different world. Getting out to a totally different experience is what we like in a vacation. Good food - the breakfast club and Santiago's were standouts. The surrounding towns each have their own character. The drive out of Tucson through Sonoita is a very scenic route and a steak dinner at the Steakout and listening to the music makes for a great special meal. Bob was a great host and Trixie gave us our dog fix. The deck is an extra special private space. The Doublejack is the place to stay in Bisbee. Pics will be posted soon at http://www.flickr.com/photos/11804408@N08/ Thanks Bob Trixie and Jeff - Chris and Linda

STUNNING!

The Double Jack and its proprietor's, Bob and Jeff,

will indulge you in a piece of Old Bisbee history and

hospitality. Perched on an amazing precipice

overlooking Brewery Gulch and beyond, you have an

eagle eye's view of town.

Inside there is cozy comfort not often found in a

hundred year old miner's cabin, but is ever present

at the Double Jack.

The gardens and outside terraces offer an amazing

amount of privacy with views that take your breath

away. It is by far the best guesthouse Bisbee has to

offer.
