We love the Colorado blue sky. We moved to Steamboat to be surrounded by mountains, streams, forests and snow ski. Imports from Wisconsin we needed to find a lake for summer activities. We spent many hours searching for a lake to go with our semi-arid Colorado climate. After years of looking a Steamboat native introduced to this amazing private lake just 26 miles from Steamboat and we have enjoyed playing in and discovering the area ever since.
Sue Bennett purchased this house in 2003
When we first bought our vacant land at the Lake in 1994 we had only a few hours a weekend to get away and play. The lake provided us with an escape just a short drive from our Steamboat home. In 1998 we built our dream house overlooking the lake and made Lake Agnes at Lichen Ranch our full time residence. We purchased this lakefront rental log home and its 35-acre property from a neighbor and used it as a private guest house for our family and friends. We began renting this property on a limited basis in 2007. This is a very special place to us. If you enjoy nature and playing outside with kids of all ages, this is a good place to be. With the help of many friends and families we continue to invent new events that entertain young and old. We play in the snow, rain, sun, and water....we just like to play and this seems to be a great place for it. We have added a pickle-ball court to increase the fun. Relaxing and lake watching is quite a good event too.
After 18 years we still find, the tall trees, bright stars, crystal clear lake, wildlife and big snow enchanting! We love to share our piece of nature with others.
The vacation log home is set on the lake and helps our guests unwind from the stress of cities and traffic. The water, dock, boats and hiking trails and mountain vistas are at your door. The area is secluded, but not remote, a quick 30 highway miles will take you to the resort town of Steamboat Springs, for concerts, rodeos, dining, hot air balloons and a number of special events.
"We stayed there for the month of August, 2009. Best vacation we ever had. Nicest home we've ever stayed at. Unbelievable location. Setting is second to none. We hardly ever left the property. Fishing was fantastic. Hiking trails galore. Wildlife everywhere. Most beautiful lake you'll ever fish. Lake toys provided were a blast. Owners are super. Hot tub was extra, but well worth it. Had guests and family coming and going and always had plenty of room for everyone to eat, lounge, etc. Beautifully and comfotably furnished. Kitchen was fully stocked - everything you'd ever need to cook. Gas barbeque grill on deck overlooking the lake was perfect. Plenty of wood for fireplace. Clean windows everywhere. Had NO problems with anything. Can't wait to come back. "

We rented this gorgeous "cabin" in the woods on a private lake for the month of August a few years ago. When we arrive the whole property was in bloom with Colorado wildflowers, with a gorgeous blue lake and clear blue Colorado summer sky! We are a family of 4 and had plenty of space in this well appointed house. Our main vacation plan was hiking and outdoor adventures. The cabin is well situated for day hikes throughout the region. there is also local horseback riding and hot air balloon rides. On days we didn't hike we had the luxury of hanging at the lake using all the water toys and fishing supplies, taking a walk around the lake or hiking up to Quarry Rock just to enjoy the view. Night time was a great time to star gaze and sit in the hot tub. We also enjoyed every Friday night at the Steamboat rodeo. The owners are locals and can recommend everything around town as well as things to do "off the beaten path". We still go back to Steamboat for summer hiking but can only stay for short visits but when we have the opportunity to stay for a month this is where we will return.
My husband and I have stayed at this gorgeous CO cabin for the months of June and September in 2013, and 2014. Both visits were splendid. This location is absolutely stunning on a private lake, ranch community, about 30 minutes outside of Steamboat Springs, CO. The cabin is very well appointed with just about anything you need for a comfortable stay. It is decorated in a western motif with lovely, quality furnishings. The owners did not skimp on making this a blissful retreat. They are very helpful and more than willing to give you recommendations on hiking, cycling, fishing, site seeing, restaurants, etc. We are looking forward to returning again in 2015. It is a dog friendly property.
I spent Christmas at this cabin and it was the most magical place. I can't imagine it without the snow and crisp night air but it most be just incredible in the summer with the lake right there at your doorstep. The owners are wonderful people - incredibly helpful and thoughtful. I really want to go back soon!
We rented the month of September 2010. Superb experience in every respect. Never having been to this part of Colorado, we made several telephone calls to owner who answered all our questions with care, humor, and absolute integrity --- a real straight shooter. Upon arrival, we discovered that, if anything, she understated the beauty and quality of this property. We had our best vacation ever; this property and its owners exceeded our every expectation. Property was in top notch condition; owners kept it at that level throughout our stay. Owners had the nicest sense of when to provide privacy and when to suggest a great hike, recommend a restuarant for a special occasion, capture our impromptu canoeing with beautiful photos, or provide a fly fishing lesson.
This is a property for nature lovers. If you’re looking for the perfect Colorado mountain get-away overlooking a pristine lake lapping below a sun drenched deck, look no further! Lichen Ranch at Lake Agnes offers magnificent views of Bear, Baker, and Whitely mountains and glorious sunsets over the lake. Deer, moose, and other wildlife enjoy the private security of this haven. Whether you want cross country skiing during the snow season or mountain biking, canoeing, and fly fishing spring, summer, or fall, Lake Agnes provides marvelous recreation. Our host, Sue and Ric, went out of their way to make our September stay comfortable and adventurous. Because we enjoy hiking, we all poured over topo maps, and they shared their favorite areas. The logged cabin home itself provides luxurious comfort to include hot tub al fresco, large wood fireplace, and huge gas grill. One only needs a suitcase and bag of groceries! This is a retreat “for all seasons,” so search no further.
Some lake boats, lake toys, and fat tire bikes are provided in summer, snow shoes in winter. Check with owner to see what toys are on site or where you can easily rent others. Besides the excellent on site fishing, this Mountain location is central to trout streams including Muddy Creek, Blue, Colorado, and Yampa Rivers. In the winter we provide a few pair of snow-shoes to help you venture your way through the POWDER and untracked cross country skiing is provided at your door or drive 7-10 miles to the designated forest trails.
