Girona boasts a privileged position located between the sea and the mountains and close to Barcelona. You have all the amenities of the big city but without the crowds. We recommend you to walk everywhere and discover all things that we will surprise you.
The condo is situated in the real heart of the old quarter called 'Barri Vell' just 2 min. to the Cathedral, the Jewish Quarter or the Arab Baths.
The condo is in a part of a building who had been an ancient monastery as you will see with thick stone walls and a medieval cave. There is one double room with two single beds and one single room with two single beds, one bathroom, full kitchen and a large living room with a sofa bed. More than 100 m2 for your private use. Linens and towels are included on the price. We have also a large and quiet balcony where you can eat in sunny days.
Cyclists are wellcome!
We booked this home at the last minute and were warmly received by its lovely owners. Brigit helped us organize some of our activies and even researched how to shuttle our bikes to Olot so that we could enjoy the Via Verde back to Girona.
The home is really well located in the old quarter and within walking distance of everything you want to see and do and eat. It is quiet and comfortable, well furnished and appointed. It is a 15 minute walk to the train station, so carless daytrips to Figueres (Dalí Museum) and other surrounding areas are easy.
We were travelling by bike. The apartment has a great storage spot for bikes. Just down the stairs from the apartment is a great cyclist filled coffee shop, so if cycling is your thing, this is the place to stay.
My family stayed here for around 10 days in April. The location of the apartment is excellent. Very easy to get to and from the train station. We walked with our luggage from the train station to the apartment and had very few issues navigating our way there. The reason for our vacation was to do some sight seeing and for me to do some cycling. The city of Girona is amazing. So much history and things to see. The apartment is a 3 minute walk to Bike Breaks where I was able to rent a bike for the few days that I was going to ride and I was able to get good route information from them. The cycling around Girona is amazing and it is no wonder many professionals call it home. We also really enjoyed that La Fabrica was located at the bottom of the steps when you leave the apartment. For those who don't know, La Fabrica is a coffee shop owned by a recently retired Canadian pro cyclist and his wife. I could not find a better cortado during my time in Spain. As for more info about the apartment, it is huge! We travelled with our 4 year old son and he had so much room to play and run around, even a few games of mini sticks were played inside and out on the patio. There was even some children's toys supplied with the apartment which was nice because we didn't bring a whole bunch from home. The bathroom is great with a good shower and a nice heated towel bar. The bedrooms are quite large as well. The one bedroom had two single beds in it which were not very comfortable beds but we didn't need to sleep on them. The outdoor patio was a great place to unwind and read and enjoy a nice beverage after a long day of walking around or cycling through the mountains.
The apartment had everything we needed for preparing meals and eating in. Spain's late night eating didn't always work out that great with our little guy so a lot of meals we had in the apartment. There is a small Spar grocery store located about 2 minutes away and we also shopped at one of the local farmer's markets which has a great selection of fruits and vegetables at much cheaper prices than the grocery store. The market is only held two times a week I think.
Brigit and her husband were great hosts and a wealth of information if you needed it. They welcomed us with a nice bottle of wine that we enjoyed greatly.
The next time I go to Girona I would stay here again. Not sure when that will be, but there is more cycling that I would like to do and I hope that Can Vespa is still around. It is just that great.
We just returned home from a month-long stay at Can Vespa in Girona. We were in Girona for work and this place was perfect for our family. The apartment is beautiful, huge, historic and in an incredible location. Brigit was easy to work with as we prepared for our trip and was helpful with anything we needed during our stay. For Europe, this place is incredibly large. Huge bathroom, living space, dining area, and a large bedroom. The kitchen is a little small, but still has everything you need to cook at home. The highlight for sure is the patio/terrace, which stretches the entire length of the apartment. The location is also perfect, steps from La Fabrica coffee shop, and 2 minute walk to the Spar grocery store. We plan to be back next year!
I couldn't think of a better place to stay when one is staying in the beautiful, historical city of Girona. The location of the apartment is just a couple of minutes walk away from the bustling main historical area of the city yet once on enters the apartment one experiences perfect calm, either in the spacious and well appointed apartment itself or on the large balcony.
Bridget was very welcoming and helpful on our arrival. There were many very nice little touches that made our stay that much more enjoyable, a welcoming bottle of red wine, some coffee capsules and some chocolates in the bedroom.
We used Girona as a base for a cycling holiday and there was plenty of room on the balcony to store our 3 bikes.
VERY WARMLY RECOMMENDED.
Our family of four recently had the pleasure of staying at Can Vespa. Brigit and Jaume were wonderful hosts - helpful and discreet. Upon check in, Jaume helped us park the car nearby the apartment (we had no idea the tiny warren of streets and stairs - all part of Girona's charm), and provided us with an extra fan and a lovely welcome bottle of wine. The photos here do not do justice to the place. It's a perfect mix of charm and character (with the antiques, the old ceilings, "cave") and modern convenience (wi-fi, washing machine, coffee maker, dishwasher, renovated kitchen and bath). There's a great little terrace to sit out in the evenings. The apartment is so well situated in the old town, I can't imagine staying anywhere else. No real need for a car, if your visit is based on Girona. Walking distance to all the sights. We fell more in love with Girona every time we turned (a tiny) corner - so much to discover. We walked the city walls, saw the historic sights, drove to the beach (Brigit lent us beach towels), ate like royalty (try Curcuma), drove to the Dali museum in Figueres, and watched people in the square (try La Bombonera for ice cream). We hope to be back one day!
Visited Girona for a week of cycling in the surrounding hills, while exploring the history, art, culture, and food of Girona. Can Vespa was perfect for us and Brigit and Jaume were the perfect hosts, offering information, help with the train schedules, and wonderful hospitality.
For cyclists, BikeBreaks Girona, an excellent resource for service and information about rides is a block away. La Fabrica, an incredible cafe run by and for professional cyclists, is at the small sunny plaza at the foot of the stairs. The apartment has ample room for bikes and gear -- in addition to all the things one would look for in a holiday flat. The afternoon sun on the huge porch. The bell towers waking us for our morning rides. A great washing machine. A beautiful carved wood dining table and sideboard (who says VRBO is all about IKEA product placement?)! Easy walking access to every art and cultural site in Girona. Grocery and wine/liquor shops within a block. Dozens of nearby restaurants. Great tasting tap water. Loved the arches in the old brick ceiling. And more and more.
We cooked several meals in the apartment. The kitchen has a two burner stove and all the tools we needed. If I could offer one minor suggestion -- The per-cup coffee machine isn't the best. We bought a small Italian stovetop espresso pot for 7 euro at the Spar market and used that all week. My traveling companion took it home. Something like would give future renters a better coffee option before the cafes open.
Thanks to Brigit and Jaume for their warm welcome and help, making our Girona visit everything we had hoped for. Perfect.
