About the property

Apartment, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-7)

Spacious, newly furnished apartment sitting right above Europe’s most stunning central square. Whether it’s a trot around the Market Square or a visit to the City’s celebrated, Medieval Cathedral, everything is no more than a hundred yards from our front door!

But, situated on the fourth floor within an historic bank building, facing away from the Square, the apartment offers amazingly peaceful accommodation - with the best of Krakow’s attractions and nightlife just a lift-ride away.

As well as being seconds from the city centre, it's just a 10 min walk to the Wawel Castle, and a 15 min walk (or 10 min taxi ride) to Kazimierz, the Jewish District, where Stephen Spielberg directed large parts of Schindler's List. The nearby train and bus stations can deliver you to the site of the Auschwitz concentration camp, and Wieliczka salt mine - both extraordinary and historic World Heritage Sites, and beautifully preserved. We can also give you details of private or commercial tours for those.

The apartment has been recently renovated to a high standard - a mixture of modern design with classic charm, provided by traditional art deco furniture, perfectly in keeping with the apartment’s history. Its spacious rooms (two discreet bedrooms as well as the main kitchen-diner), two bathrooms and fully equipped kitchen make it well adapted to parties of up to six, although probably most ideal for a family or two couples. The main bedroom has a huge and dazzling bay-window that catches the morning sunshine, as well as its own en-suite toilet and shower.

Children are of course very welcome, but no pets please. The apartment is fully accessible to wheelchairs. The entrance to the flat includes a small, private east-facing balcony area.

Krakow Valley Golf Club is approximately 45 min drive from the apartment. It has an 18-hole golf course, riding stables and its own shooting range.

If you're into winter sports, Zakopane - Poland's leading ski resort in the Tatra Mountains - is only 70 miles away. Excellent skiing facilities during the winter months and great walking in the summer.

Balice - Krakow's airport is served by Ryanair, Skyeurope, Easyjet, LOT and British Airways. A taxi from the airport to the apartment takes roughly 30 minutes. The charge is approx 75 zlotys (£18), but allow more on weekends and at night. You could also take a train to Balice from the Krakow Central station.

You are within 5 minutes walk of most of Krakow's finest restaurants. Local shops on the Square provide basic groceries, fine wines, a pharmacy and cafes, ice cream and much more. There are a number of ATMS within yards of the front door, as well as a cinema, and a nightclub. It's a 10 minute walk to Galeria Krakowska - the city's leading shopping centre.

About Ed and Anna Butler

We are two professional radio journalists with three children. We live in London, but love to travel. Anna is Polish born and this is our first property abroad.

Ed and Anna Butler purchased this apartment in 2007

Why Ed and Anna Butler chose Krakow (Cracow)

Ever since Anna came to the UK in the 1980s, she's wanted a place of her own back in her native Poland. This is a dream spot, right at the heart of Poland's most amazing city, and what we love is stepping out straight onto the square, and just trawling through the fantastic stalls they have there or popping into one of the range of great restaurants littered around the centre. Our favourite time there has to be the heart of winter, when it's just been snowing. The light against those huge elegant buildings is pure magic. Otherwise stay indoors and gaze out across the rooftops of the Old Town. Up on the fourth floor, the apartment is almost eerily peaceful even at the height of the holidays, offering free wifi access, and satellite tv, it's big enough for our whole family to sprawl.

What makes this apartment unique

There's simply no better location in town. You step out of the apartment and you're right in the middle of the Market Square. Apart from the central square, the best walk for us is down from the main square through Grodzka and Poland's oldest street, Kanonicza, to reach the castle. Having gazed over the ramparts, just keep going down to the old Jewish quarter in Kazimierz and lose yourself in all the amazing back streets and junk shops there.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"My familly found this apartment ideal for our group. Spacious rooms, comfortable bedding, both bathrooms up to date. We had 7 in our party and the apartment very comfortably accomodated all of us. Overall just perfect.

The location is absolutely ideal. Just steps from the square. So much of what we wanted to do was within walking distance.

We had traveled via car from Warsaw, so they were helpful in finding us a safe and affordable car park.

I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Krakow. "

Location is Great, But Could Use More TLC

  • 3 of 5

Sometimes when one has comparisons, it means trouble for the lesser of the group. This is the case for our apartment in Krakow. The location could not be better, just off the main square and convenient to everything. We were able to walk to every destination we wanted to see and to places to eat.

The apartment, although spacious, leaves much to be desired. People commented on comfortable beds, but we had 5 sleepless nights on thin mattresses that hurt our backs. We found the mattress in the second bedroom slightly better, so slept in there after the second night. The room is small and not much air-flow, so it could get quite warm. The windows have to remain closed because of the industrial noises that would keep us awake. I had asked about light in the master and found it dark at night but light came in early in the morning even with blinds (which were said to be vintage, so we shouldn’t mess with them). The photo of the master bedroom makes it look palatial, but it is not. We knew we weren’t staying at the Ritz, but this was far from what we expected.

We used the washer, but why have one if a dryer rack isn’t provided? We hung the clothes to dry all over the bathrooms, but a rack would have been more convenient. We felt the apartment has been done “on the cheap” as evidenced by old stained towels provided with a message saying these are it for as long as we stay unless we want to pay to have more brought. Nothing for the bathroom floor, which was quite slippery, so we sacrificed one of our smaller towels for the floor near the shower. All VRBO/HomeAway apartments we have used around the world have provided at least a starter with paper towels, coffee filters, and sometimes condiments, but this had nothing.

As an added bonus, a new elevator is being built, and the workmen started hammering around 7:30. The light switch near the apartment that possibly should have turned on the hallway lights to the elevator did not work, so we had to use our phone light to make our way after dark.

I want to add we are not complainers by nature. We have stayed in some pretty funky places and consider it a cultural experience, but given the positive reviews I read prior to coming to Krakow, I felt something had to be written to forewarn others.

Incredible Location - Spacious Apartment!

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we were picked up at the airport by the driver our hosts sent, we were enchanted. I cannot express in words how beautiful Krakow is, even in the rain and cool temps! The apartment is located within walking distance to anything you desire in the city (including a gaint mall & a castle). The apartment is spacious, clean, and comfortable. We never actally met the hosts that are listed, but the people they sent to let us in and assist us, were fantastic! If I had to list a negative, I would say that there is a nightclub/stripclub next door to the apartment's entrance which concerned us greatly the night we arrived, especially since we had our young daughter with us. However, to our suprise, we never really noticed it much after as we came and went. The apartment is quiet, except for one Saturday night, when we heard music and noise for a brief period (no big deal). The only other thing is that there needs to be better lighting in the hallways (dont let that throw you off if you arrive at night). We felt very safe here as we came and went at all times. The neighbors were delightful (many had small children) and helpful. I would stay here again. I would recommend it for friends and family! Cannot wait to visit this wonderful city once again!

  • 5 of 5

what a fantastic experience, to stay in this wonderful apartment in this magical city!

from the initial booking to our day of departure the owners and manager were so helpful and informative,

a real advantage for first time travelers to the area.

the apartment is spacious, immaculate and very comfortable with everything you could ask for, very effiecient heating sytem, clean modern bathrooms, well equipped kitchen to comfortable beds and more.

we were a couple with one single friend, and there was plenty of room and privacy for even a much larger group.

the location ideal, so close to everything, but still very quiet and private.

it is a great experience we will always remember, we will return and ONLY stay here and recommend you do too!

We have visited Krakow three times, and stayed in this wonderful apartment each time. It is very spacious, perfect for our two young children. It is right on the square, but nice an quite. I would not even consider staying at another apt. in Krakow, this one is absolutely perfect!!!
