About Susan Deichsel
The casita was newly built in 2008 as a secondary structure behind our home in the Old Town/ Downtown neighborhood of Albuquerque and was therefore built to be exactly what it is. It was envisioned to be the kind of elegant, comfortable, private, and friendly place it is. And, we aren't just pet friendly, we love pets! We think of our cottage as a budget friendly, special accommodation for those who do not like the hustle of hotel travel. Dick and Susan live in the house in front (that's us) and try to give our guests enough personal attention to feel attended to, and enough space and privacy to feel as if they are truly away from their everyday lives in a special place in the quirky and historic center of the gorgeous Southwest, Albuquerque.
Susan Deichsel purchased this Studio in 2008
Why Susan Deichsel chose Downtown
We actually purchased the house in 2006 to use it as a short-term rental, but we were so quickly insinuated into the fabric of this very special community that we decided to stay on-possibly forever. I ran for Mayor of Albuquerque in 2017, so to say we love this city would be putting it mildly. But I was still determined to have a short-term rental, so we remedied that problem by building this secondary building that includes our flat that was designed to be exactly what it is, and an awsome garage. We had fortunately purchased our house in a neighborhood where zoning allowed such things. We wanted the flat, or casita as they are called in this part of the world, to be optionally walkable and bike-able to many of the neighborhood attractions and to also be near the historic center of the city, so that it wouldn't just feel as if it was just a suburb, that could be anywhere. . It is therefore not large, as is the case in central city locations, but has just the right mix of both interior features to enjoy and hassle free attractions to avail oneselves of. You will feel right at home in La Casita Rosada, with owners who treat it like a business but also offer the 'high-touch' usually found at special resort properties.

Old Town Albuquerque
Susan and Dick were friendly and knowledgeable super hosts. The apartment was thoughtfully furnished with everything we could have possibly needed. Their restaurant suggestions were great. And, as my mom would say, "So clean you could eat off the floors!"
Excellent, walkable, wonderful
The very private but social setting was great. The casita was immaculately clean, lots of lights so able to read, warm hardwood made it feel quite inviting. The orchids rotated through and I just hoped not to kill them! It was great to have as much filtered water as we wanted.
The neighborhood was great with many restaurants, Old Town, and a couple of museums all within walking distance. Can't imagine a better place to stay in Albuquerque! If you miss your pets, Pumpkin and Chewy would love to help you out. Don't want pets - ignore them.
Thanks so much for your kind review. We miss you. It was delightful to have you and we hope to see you again.
My first time using homeaway and was impressed with the property being exactly as it appeared online. Details in the casita were what you wish every place would be like. The location is great and recommended restaurants were awesome. I would stay here again if I come to Albuquerque again.
Thank you. Ruth & Pam
Thanks so much to both of you. Please come again.
Excellent Location, Comfortable, and Quiet
We really enjoyed our four-night stay in this studio casita during the 2018 Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. Dick and Susan are very welcoming hosts. They have really focused on the details to make this a pleasant vacation rental. We appreciated Dick’s recommendations on several nearby restaurants. Our only regret was that we did not have the time to dine at more of them. It was fun getting acquainted with their pet cat and dog. The casita worked very well for us attending the Balloon Fiesta, walking to Old Town, and just relaxing near the end of our three-week road trip.
The casita was very comfortable, restful, well maintained and clean. We enjoyed the nice furnishing and décor of the casita. Even though it is located near a main street the casita was super quiet. The landscaping around the casita is spectacular! We enjoyed the very private patio behind the casita. It was a nice place to catch a little sun and do some reading. The king bed was comfortable and had nice linens. The kitchen area was well stocked, and worked well for us for the several meals we had in the casita. It has a range, microwave, stacked refrigerator/ freezer. There is a gas barbeque on the deck in front of the casita, which we did not use. We liked the super nice, large bathroom with its large deluxe tile shower. The bathroom was well stocked with toiletries and nice towels. The built-in desk and office area behind the kitchen is a nice touch. There were several plugs in this area for charging our phones, iPad, and camera batteries. The Wi-Fi Internet worked well throughout the casita, and the Internet speed was adequate for our needs. There is an available washer and dryer on the property, which we did not use.
The casita is in an excellent location, and is very walkable to Lowe’s Market, Old Town, museums, Tiguex Park and many excellent restaurants. We appreciated the off street parking spot for the casita. We found it easy to drive out to the Cottonwood Mall to take the Park & Ride bus to the Balloon Fiesta. This saved us the hassle of driving to, and dealing with the traffic and parking at the Balloon Fiesta Park. We would hope to stay in Dick and Susan’s casita, if we are in Albuquerque again. Thanks for a great stay!
Thanks so much for your kind and detailed review. Please come see us again.
When I walked thru the gate I knew this place was special. Immaculate casita and great hosts. Most dog friendly place I've ever stayed. Comfortable with everything anyone could ever need. Thank you Susan and Dick for caring so much about our dogs and their comfort too. And thank you Chewy for being such a friendly and welcoming pooch. This place is perfect.
Thanks so much, Judy and Miguel. We would love having you again.
Susan and Dick
Everything you could want in an accommodation.
The property is furnished with very possible amenity—all very high quality. The comfort of the accommodation is secondary to the warmth of the hosts.. And, of course, the friendly pets add much to the sense of being welcomed to a home. We loved the convenience of the location, the local insights from Dick and Susan, and the companionship of a cat with “cattitude”. This was our first experience with a vacation rental and we will definitely do it again after our experience in Albuquerque.
Thanks so much for your kind review. Punky has been looking for you!
