I'm Karen & worked as a LA teacher before coming on board as an educational diagnostician (assessing children for special needs). I resigned my LA position June 2012, and as of August 2012, I am now teaching a special needs class in nearby MS. My husband, Donald, is a retired security officer from a LA state inmate facility. He and I have owned rental property for the past 25 years and we renovate our own properties. We renovated a house in MS a couple blocks from the Gulf which Katrina claimed in 2005. We looked on the bright side and bought a house in Pigeon Forge 2006: Bear Creek Lodge. We are building back on our lot in Bay St. Louis, MS, so remember us if you are planning a trip to the mountains or to the beach. We are blessed to live on LA/MS line where we can go back & forth for important things: LA: grandchildren and church; MS: beach and school children. The most important things in our lives are God, our children, grandchildren, family and friends.
Karen purchased this Cottage in 2007
Why Karen chose Sevierville
I feel the presence of God daily, but when I take a scenic ride through Smokey Mt. National Park or Cades Cove, I think of how great my God must be that He spoke this existence into place. I've vacationed here for many years and owning a piece of property here was a far-away dream, but God made it a reality in 2006 when we purchased Bear Creek Lodge in Pigeon Forge. God blessed us with guests like you to rent it; however, being an educator, it was always rented during summer and holidays when I could visit. A year later, in 2007, while looking for a piece of property to park our camper, we stumbled upon this awesome place in Wears Valley. After renovations, we not only had a piece of the mountain to park our camper on, but two more additional nightly rentals. He gave us more than one piece of the mountain. We invite you, our family and friends, to visit and enjoy a piece of the treasure with us.

Everything we needed
This was our second time staying in this cottage. It is also the only place we have stayed at twice while vacations in the area. The location is awesome. We love the Wears Valley area. You are close enough to PF and Gatlinburg but far enough away to relax. The cottage has practically everything you need. There isn’t a stove but there is a very nice charcoal grill, hot plate, and microwave if you need to cook something. The bed is comfy. There’s plenty of room for 2 or possibly 4 if you have small children.we didn’t use the tub this time. Karen is very easy to book through and answers your questions quickly. Overall we enjoy staying in this cottage and will stay again
Very nice property. A great value for the money
Our stay at this cabin could not have been better. Everything was exactly as described. We have spent a lot more money for cabins in the past, but as my wife and I went without out children this time, this cabin was perfect for our needs. It was situated a little further out from Pigeon Forge than we were used to, but that was part of the charm. We will definitely look at renting this cabin again in the future.
Loved our stay!
L'il Bear Apple Cottage was cozy and cute with a beautiful view! My husband and I stayed there for our 33rd wedding anniversary and it was so relaxing and fit into our budget at only $75.00 a night! It was close to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg. The king size bed was very comfortable and we slept so well! We used the indoor jacuzzi tub once....it was nice but the jets were not very forceful and didn't really produce bubbles. We were a bit disappointed in the tv setup as we didn't get very many channels at all. We also wish the tv in the bedroom had a dvd player like the one in the living room. But these are just small complaints....overall we were very pleased with the accomidations!
Wife and I used this cabin as our home base while shopping for a house in the general area. Loved our stay and would definitely rent it again.
We really loved our stay at the cabin! The view was breathtaking! Pigeon Forge is a 15 minute drive and Gatlinburg is 30 minutes. We went to Cades Cove and Clingman' s Dome which is a beautiful drive and about an hour.
The cabin was perfect for my family of three. We did bring our air mattress for our daughter because she wanted to bring it. The king size bed was comfy! The fridge is small, which Karen told me it was, so I knew not to buy more food than we needed, the deep freeze in the shed was helpful. Karen was very helpful and answered any questions. It's very peaceful and quiet in the evenings, even with other families vacationing. Keep an eye out for deer while sitting on the front porch, we saw a buck and a doe one evening.
Thank you Karen for your hospitality and for answering my texts! We look forward to our next trip!!
Nice, quiet and NOT well kept.
The property is exactly as described except I found it dirty. When I called Karen, she acted like she didn't realize that I was the first guest of the season, but then, later in the conversation, said she had notified her housekeeper to check it out if she was in the vacinity. Then she went on to say that she personally had been there three weeks ago. The cobwebs all over the ceilings and walls and on the furniture seemed to be way more than would accumulate in three weeks. The couch was covered in lint and very uncomfortable to sit on. There is no other furniture except the kitchen chairs. There was no hot water because the water heater breaker was turned off. She had not mentioned that, but I found the breaker box and flipped the breaker. Both bath rugs were filthy. The back porch furniture was still upside down (table included) and I could not lift it. The front porch furniture was very dirty and part of it, as well as the floor, was coated in bird droppings, so unusable as well. There was a large pile of used roofing shingles at the front corner of the carport which made me worry that there were roofing nails in the driveway. I found one on the carport floor. The listing stated that there would be a starter amount of charcoal and lighter there, but there was not. The grill was too rusty to use anyway. There were NO kitchen linens in the house, and only one VERY small pot in the kitchen. And lastly, the side entrance door has no security lock, just the doorknob, and the main entrance door, which is on the back porch, has a security chain lock that is attached only to the door trim. It is worthless as far as "security" goes. There is no gutter, so you would have to walk through the water falling off of the carport to get in and out if it were raining. The location is mainly residential and generally quiet except for the gun range fire that was rather loud all day Saturday and the construction going on across the street, and literally in the back yard, on Monday. If you're interested in the tourist activities in Pigeon Forge, it's quite a ways out for multiple daily trips into town, and Covemont Ln is very narrow, hilly and winding.
To clarify some of these things, for instance, check-in is at 4:00 pm and you asked if you could check in early and I agreed, but I didn't realize it was going to be almost a day early. Yes, I was confused Saturday morning when my phone rang before 7:00 AM and you had already checked in and was calling regarding the cobwebs. I was confused because you woke me up while I was still sleeping. Once I got oriented, I did tell you I had been up the middle of March to get things going because I do close the rental down during the winter season. As I told you, it was very clean when I left March 24, 2017, but I understand it doesn't take long for cobwebs to gather. I told you I would be glad to have the cleaning lady to come by and freshen things up and you told me you could do that because your only concern was some cobwebs and a rug in front of the tub that you were more less letting me know in case I had a cleaning lady slacking on her job. I never heard another word from you so I assumed everything to be well with your stay.
The hot water heater breaker, I'm sorry because I didn't realize it wasn't on. I could have called the cleaning lady or the maintenance man to come flip it for you.
The porch furniture: I am a small person and I 've turned the table up many times by myself. I purposely left it down because the winds can be strong with March not over, I was afraid there may yet be strong winds and I never guessed anyone would have trouble setting the lightweight table and plastic chairs up-right. However, I realize there is a difference in traits of people so I do wish you would have given me a call so I could have sent someone to tend to this for you.
The porch furniture:The cottage is not in a heavily populated area so that is the main reason I thought you would love it. You said you were traveling alone and wanted to be to yourself and away from the hustle/bustle. Well, away from it all for the little cottage means good wholesome country living: fresh air, well water, a few spiders, quite a few lady bugs, and some dust, too.
As far as security, you are the first guest who has ever had a complaint about security. All the doors do lock, but the strength of the chains have never been tested as we have never had a break-in.
Shingles:the shingles have been purposely placed in that area to keep the soil from eroding and works great!
Sorry you didn't like it, but you know what they say, "different strokes for different folks." Thanks! Karen
