Overview

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms + Den, 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 12)

New, 4700 sq. ft. log home on 4 private, rustic acres, perched on the mountainside at an elevation of 5400 feet. It's only a 15 minute drive to Snowbasin, 25 minutes to Powder Mountain, and just a few minutes to the famous Shooting Star Saloon in Huntsville as well as Pineview Lake. In addition to downhill skiing in the winter, there's snow-shoeing, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. In the summer there's hiking, water-skiing, jet-skiing, sailing, off-roading, mountain-biking and golf ... year-round outdoor recreation!

Your families will settle right in and feel completely at home in this warm, sunny, beautifully furnished, 4-bedroom lodge. There's plenty of room for everyone to spread out after a day outdoors. Relax by one of our fireplaces, listen to the gurgling of the stream running by the house, take in the awesome views of Ogden Valley and Snowbasin from every room. Watch for the abundant wildlife... try to spot deer, elk, moose, fox, wild turkeys, rabbits, pheasant, hawks and eagles.

Our main floor features an amazing great room with a fireplace, log-vaulted ceilings, panoramic views and a baby grand piano. The great room opens to the dining room and our large, well-appointed kitchen. The master suite with a king-size bed, master bath and walk-in closet is also located on the main level, as are a tiled entry room (for all those wet clothes), powder room, laundry room and 2-car garage.

Upstairs are two very large bedrooms with queen-size beds, another full bath and an office area in the loft overlooking the great room. Connect your laptop in the office to print out your boarding passes for your return flights (wireless internet provided throughout, with a printer in the office).

Downstairs is a perfect environment for your kids, with a large, sunny bunk room that sleeps six in comfortable twin beds ... the deer and wild fowl come right up and browse by the windows! There's a third full bath; an adjacent living area with a second fireplace; 65' TV with cable, surround-sound, VCR, DVD player and I-Pod dock; a game room with foosball and ping pong; plus plenty of board games and a library for those family evenings after a day of active fun.

Throughout the house the hot water is on a recirculation system so there's no waiting to step into the shower or fill the bath.

As you drive 10 minutes to our valley supermarket your kids will point out flocks of sheep, cattle, llamas and horses.

This is the perfect home for a few families to meet ... or for an extended family reunion ... or for a getaway of friends.

About The Owner

We live in Coronado, California (across the bay from San Diego), enjoying a mild climate on the Pacific Ocean. Dad is a retired engineer, now 'paying it forward' in a second career as a physics teacher in a low-income high school. We've always taken family ski and back-country vacations, to get away from the crowd. We longed for a permanent place in the mountains where we could periodically retreat from our city life. We had the great fortune to have swapped our timeshare for a ski week in the Ogden Valley, and on Friday that week we were hooked ... we bought this land, and were able to build our dream getaway home a few years later!

We designed our home specifically so that we could enjoy it with other families, with the adults relaxing on the main level while our kids and their friends could have their own space, on the lower level, private but not out of our reasonable supervision.

Our goal in renting our home is not to make a huge return on investment but, rather, to defray expenses by having families like ours appreciate it as much as we do. When you look at the cost of a rental timeshare, then consider the space and comfort that our home offers for a comparable price ... there really is no comparison!

Why The Owner chose Utah

The Ogden Valley is fantastic and, quite possibly, unique. Our home is private, but minutes from two of the best ski resorts in the world. We are situated amidst incredible beauty in a very rural setting, yet we're an easy, one-hour drive from Salt Lake City Airport. The local people are warm, friendly and welcoming. We can leave our home in Coronado in the morning and ski that afternoon.

This is truly one of the still 'undiscovered' retreats in our great country!

What makes this house unique

Our home is large, yet warm and cozy. Coming from the city, we relish the amazing views of the valley and surrounding mountains, which change by the minute as the sun moves across the sky. We enjoy searching out the wildlife as we sip our morning coffee, seeing who can count the most deer on the hillsides, and who can spot the bald eagle that is soaring from its nest across the stream. At night, we gaze at the arch of the Milky Way and the billions of stars, far from the interfering lights of the city and suburbs.

It may sound strange ... but we always have a little trouble falling asleep on our first night here, because of the total absence of the usual noises we've grown used to ... traffic (and car alarms!!!), planes, neighbors' TVs and loud conversations, barking dogs ... our first morning, though, when we wake up to the sound of the water in our stream and the faint mooing of the cows several miles away, we feel an almost physical release of accumulated stress. This is our Eden ... our most relaxing place!

Map

Spend a day on a sleigh ride through the snow, through herds of elk and deer. Many off-road trails nearby.

Awesome Stay

  • 5 of 5

We have skied all over the United States, usually staying in condos rented through management companies. This year we have a newly blended family ... 3 couples and 4 grandchildren, ages 8-14 ... so we decided to act on the recommendation of a friend and consult VRBO. We are fantastically lucky to have found this home to rent! The house itself is indescribably fantastic: comfortable bedrooms and living areas for the adults, the downstairs bunkroom, game room and entertainment pit for the kids. Everyone who skis knows that, when it's prime, Utah snow is the best in the world, and Snow Basin and Powder Mountain didn't disappoint this year, even this early. The owner, Steve, is very easy to deal with and answered all of our questions promptly, he gave us great recommendation for thing to do as a family on the days we decided not to ski. The house is so inviting that we ate every breakfast and dinner at "home." We have already booked a week for next year!

Great summer vacation

  • 5 of 5

A group of us traveled from Texas for a bicycle race - some where here to simply enjoy the ride, others to conquer the mountain roads in hopes of winning a national title. However all of us were able to enjoy a moment to take in the muted tones of a breathtaking backdrop seen from this stately home nestled in the hillside. From the windows we could see the race roads that snake through the mountain and a flood of stars that filled the sky each night. But perhaps the best moments came as we sat around the table here in the coziness of this house, sharing laughter and good times that will remain in our memories... This is a beautiful house that for a week became a home to bicycle racers & friends. Thank you. -AC

Fantastic Vacation Home!

  • 5 of 5

After having won a week’s stay in a live auction charity event generously donated by the homeowners, my wife and I, joined by two other couples spent a perfect week in this amazing home. It’s not really fare to describe the house as a vacation rental given its personal touches and “homey” feel. At the same time, you don’t feel like you’re intruding into someone else’s space. It is 100% comfortable. It was great for the three couples, each of us having our own room. We did not have children with us, but for those of you who do, wow, what a setup this is for a family vacation. All of the rooms are comfortable with plenty of space. The kitchen is well appointed, and we ate in nearly every evening. The downstairs bunk room is perfect for kids or even multiple adults who need/want their own bed. Foosball and ping pong are ready to go and we played them both. There is a nice TV set with a great library of movies available if that’s what you want to do. We highly recommend this house as a place to get away, enjoy the out of doors and spend some quality time with family and friends.

Beautiful home with fabulous views!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful home with fabulous views! Everything you could possibly need is furnished in this home. We had 2 families of 4 so it was perfect! The kids had plenty of room to spread out so the parents could catch up. Kids loved the bunks and games! Loved that it was close to Snowbasin. The owner was very helpful and great to work with! This is our 3rd time to Snowbasin and this is our favorite place to stay at so far. We would definitely stay again. :)

Perfect Vacation

  • 5 of 5

All I can say is that after our stay last year we scheduled our 2014 ski vacation around the availability of this beautiful home. And it was actually more beautiful than last year with all the snow, the streets and driveway was freshly plowed every day and you just can't ask for nicer owners. We will stay again next year! Do yourself a favor and stay here and relax, look out the windows at the mountains, deer, an occasional eagle and the beautiful sunsets and sunrises, nothing is better.
