Re-invent yourself as a Parisian in this romantic apartment in the artistic quartier of Canal St Martin. Newly renovated to a high standard in 2008, 'Chez Grisette' is a 32sqm (about 345 sq ft) one-bedroom apartment on the first floor (Americans call it the second floor) of a well-maintained traditional grey stone Haussmann building with secure digicode entry.
It is situated on rue Marie et Louise, a well-lit, neighborly street just one block back from the tree-lined canal. Metro stations Republique, Jacques Bonsergent (2 stops from Gare du Nord) and Goncourt are all within a five-minute walk and there are several restaurants and cafés as well as a cocktail bar in rue Marie et Louise itself, with some of the hippest hang-outs in Paris nearby.
On entering the apartment you’ll find a new white lacquer kitchen with granite work-surfaces, bamboo floor, a café-style table and chairs for two, as well as two folding chairs. It is equipped with electric hob and oven, extractor fan, a microwave oven, dishwasher, washer-dryer, pots, pans, glasses, china, Sabatier knives and all other things you’ll need to prepare yourself a delicious meal after you’ve explored the delights of the Sunday market in rue Alibert which runs past the end of rue Marie et Louise. If you want to shop like a local, use the poussette (shopping trolley) that’s in the wardrobe by the front door.
The living room, whose large window looks out on the flower-filled balconies that run down the street, has an L-shaped sofa bed, which can be extended to sleep two, or one can sleep on it as it is. However, the apartment is best suited to a couple or two friends sharing, when you’ll have plenty of room to relax after exploring the city, perhaps watching TV or a DVD, or browsing through one of books or guidebooks in the small collection provided. Wi-Fi and telephone calls to Western Europe and North America are included in the rental price.
The intimate bedroom has a large window looking out over the street and a queen-sized bed. To keep the bedroom calm and uncluttered, ample wardrobe (closet) space is provided in the living-room with another cupboard for hanging coats, etc, near the front door of the apartment. The modern bathroom has a rain-shower over the bath, a hairdryer and magnifying mirror, while the toilet is separate. Both have towel radiators and windows.
Although it can sleep four at pinch, this apartment is really intended for just a couple of guests at a time.
I asked a guest who was staying with two teenagers for four nights whether she thought the apartment was big enough for a family of four rather than a couple.
She replied: We had a wonderful stay at Chez Grisette! You've really thought of all the details to make things comfortable. We didn't find it too cramped with our girls --although they were pretty light with their luggage and I think luggage storage space would be the only issue if people were staying longer. The pull-out is certainly comfortable enough for adults. I guess, in reality, we didn't spend that much time in the apartment, either - we were packing a lot into our short visit, but I would think most visitors would be the same.
We loved our little "Chez Grisette" and would recommend it to anyone looking for a perfect Paris experience. We very soon referred to it as "our place" and loved the neighbourhood around Rue Marie et Louise. We stayed with our 2 daughters, who also enjoyed getting to know the neighbourhood. The apartment is very well equipped - everything you need - all the modern conveniences in a beautiful old Parisian apartment building.
Chez Grisette is exactly as advertised, quiet, clean, we'll equipped, and comfortable. Communication is timely and clear. Very easy greeting and orientation with personable staff. Bus and metro are convenient. Terrific neighborhood beyond the touristed area. We would definitely return and have recommended the apartment to friends.
The apartment is on a small, residential rue only a few steps from the Canal. There are several cozy restaurants on the street and a grocery store is nearby. The flat itself is charming, elegant, well-decorated, roomy and bright. It is fully equipped with kitchenware, an enviable library of Paris-themed reference materials, novels and dvd's. There is more than enough closet space, a comfortable bed, nice shower with good water pressure and a tub (rare in Paris) so you can soak after a long day walking the streets of Paris. The appliances and furnishings are in tip-top condition. The apartment manual is a marvel. It covers every appliance and eventuality, so there is no frustration trying to suss out how things work. The owner and manager are responsive, friendly and welcoming. You can't go wrong here; this is a perfect rental. I plan on returning.
Flat was lovely, Sheila the caretaker was there to greet us, first time anyone has meet us on arrival. Very well equiped, especially for rental unit. Position was great, very close to Metro, we used Republique station. Thai restaurant on the corner had lovely food, it was busy all he time. Very close to lots of different supermarkets, bars and restaurants. It was more of a residential area, with lots of people sitting along the Canal St Martin trying to cool off as it was very hot. Great for us as it was good to get away from hoardes of people on the busy Paris streets. Would defiantly recommend this unit, better than a hotel. 😀
Chez Grisette was our favorite Paris attraction! The apartment was beautiful, spacious and well-equipped. Sheila and Renata were gems to work with...we could not have been happier with our stay and would definitely and highly recommend this apartment to anyone. The Canal St. Martin area was very charming, lively and fun, but outside the touristy fray. We would definitely rent this apartment again!
We loved the location and the apartment. Easy walking distance too lots of sightseeing. Sunday market down the street is well worth a visit if you plan on doing some cooking. You wont be disappointed.
Perfect location for a stay in Paris. Everything concerning administration or contact did workout perfectly. The flat is well prepared, clean and equipped with everything you need. Location is great with all you need right at hand.
Take a leisurely canal trip on the Canal St Martin between Bassin de l'Arsenal and Porte de la Villette to see all the local sights
