Guestbook comments from the owner

It was a great location. We never rented a car. There were 6 in our group-with three children ages 11-14. We were able to catch a bus in front of the condo and easily get to the subway station or downtown. The deck was very nice and we were able to sit outside most evenings after a busy day of sightseeing. There were 3 adults and 3 children and the accommodations worked very well. The internet worked well for us. The owner answered any questions I had and checked with us in the middle of our week long stay to see if we needed any thing. There were convenience stores and restaurants within easy walking distance. We purchased a 7 day link card and took full advantage of it. There was a walking path around Jamaica lake within 3 blocks which made for a nice evening stroll. Grocery stores were on the one bus line which made food shopping easy. I would recommend this property to someone going to Boston on vacation.

Enjoying the beauty and serenity of Jamaica Pond

VRBO Bear stayed here

Oct 29, 2009

This home, centrally located in Jamaica Plain, is the ideal place to stay if you are planning a visit to Boston. Jamaica Plain or “JP” as the locals call it is a very green, friendly and artsy neighborhood. This home has a fabulous remodeled kitchen that opens to a great patio which is perfect for outdoor entertaining or dining. Here, you can experience how the real Bostonians live! The comfortable four bedroom, two bath home is situated right on Centre Street, the main street running through JP. Almost everything is in walking distance of the home. Along Centre Street there are some fantastic restaurants, eateries, pubs, shopping, art galleries, and bakeries. The street is also home to the famous JP Licks, which offers some of the best coffee and all-natural ice cream in Boston (one of the Bear’s favorite stops). Another claim to fame of Jamaica Plain is the historical Samuel Adams Brewery. Stop by for a free tour and tasting. You’ll discover Jamaica Pond within a couple of blocks of this home. The pond is surrounded by very lush trees and landscaping. The 1.5 mile path that meanders through beautiful foliage draws runners and walkers galore. There are lovely benches to stop and take in the sheer beauty of this gorgeous setting. During the summer months, you can even rent sail boats and row boats. Breathtaking historical homes, some dating back to the early 17th century, surround the pond. Much of the architecture has withstood the test of time and has been painstakingly restored both inside and out. The Jamaica Pond and the very near Arnold Arboretum end what is commonly referred to as the Emerald Necklace. It’s a series of parks and waterways designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, an 1860’s landscape architect. While in Boston be sure to take in as many of the historical sites as possible. Be sure to check out the Freedom Trail, the Boston Harbor, the Old North Church, and the Boston Commons (oldest park in the country). You really don’t need a car when staying here. Public transportation is right outside the front door and that will get you to the “T” (rail system) which takes you into downtown Boston or any of the surrounding areas. Once in the heart of downtown Boston, you can take an informative trolley tour around the town which permits you to jump off and on at any of the sites that interest you. The Bear highly recommends the narrative trolley tour! After a long day of sightseeing, I especially liked curling up in front of the fireplace and pondering what my next Boston adventure would be… The VRBO Bear

Renovated and beautiful place!

  • 5 of 5

I came with my family for three days. We found a clean, renovated, beautiful house. Everything has been just perfect. Clean and comfortable beds, a kitchen very well equipped, fireplace, water heater providing more than enough hot water, comfortable house temperature, and a great location plenty of restaurants. The owner has been truly friendly and supportive. I have no doubt on recommending this property. We had a great time here.

Just as pictured, great stay

  • 5 of 5

Everything went very smoothly for us. The house is on the main street going through Jamaica Plain which means it's close to coffee shops, restaurants and more. Felt safe. Beds were all made for us and very comfy. The only thing we didn't love were loud overhead footsteps from the people in the other apartment (they seem to get home late at night) but what are ya gonna do. If we had had more time, I would have liked to explore the green spaces and walking trails nearby. There were 5 of us who went to a conference. We each had our own bed and two of us shared the basement room.

The house.was charming in a great location near the subway. We made many trips into Boston. The house was spacious and had an updated kitchen with a large dining area. My family loved it.

Spacious older home in nice area with good access to public transit. Pictures nicer than home.

  • 3 of 5

Home met our needs but was very noisy due to creaking floors and another rental unit upstairs. No bathroom on top level with 2 bedrooms. Pictures are much nicer making us expect a property of a higher caliber, thus price was higher than it was worth. Unit had AC and laundry which was excellent. Property owner quite responsive.

Owner's Response: I am really sorry you did not find the home to your liking. All homes in Boston are older but this one was completely renovated with new windows, walls, floors refinished and the kitchen is actually newer than the pictures show so I am having a hard time understanding how it was not up to expectations. Sincerely sorry it was not what you are looking for but we keep the house up to a very high standard and are always improving it.

Acceptable but dated

  • 3 of 5

We stayed for 7 days towards the end of June. The photos are out of date and do not represent the condition of the property. The yard is overgrown and the deck is well worn with orange tape cautioning areas of stress. As for the inside it was OK but could use touch up work and a good scrubbing or repainting, There was a gnat infestation in basement shower and floor drain, and in the main floor bathroom. The kitchen and appliances are very nice, linens were stained, but clean.

The location itself was very convenient with the subway about 8 minutes away. With the "Charlie card" for the "T" it was very easy to get around Boston. There are a large number of restraunts and an excellent bakery, neighborhood grocery, and an ice cream store a couple of blocks away. The owner was very responsive to inquiries and request to arrive early.

Owner's Response: I am glad that you did enjoy aspects of the home but surprised that the inside needed a deeper cleaning. I have used the same cleaning crew for 17 years and rarely get complaints on their work. I wish the guest would have said something and I could have tried to get them back into the house to touch up.
