The 'Bamboo Hideaway' has an excellent ocean view. It is situated close to an old stand of large bamboo, hence the name. Entry and parking are private and at ground level.
This accommodation offers slate floors, granite counter tops, King bed, full bath, cooking facilities, refrigerator, and kitchen island. A large screened lanai encloses the dining and lounge area with a full 10ft.sliding glass door to the lanai and two very comfortable lounges. Free laundry facilities are available in the garage. Shopping is close as well as 12 min. to ocean snorkeling and kayaking. Coffee and macadamia farms to visit.
A short 10 min. drive will take you down to the beach, Capt. Cook monument & Place of Refuge. Great snorkeling and kayaking.
The accommodations are compact but well designed, very pleasant decor.
There are several very good restaurants and a grocery store within one mile drive.
This is a smoke free environment for your enjoyment. Sorry no pets.

We moved to the Big Island in 1987 and built our home in Captain Cook in1988.
We added our two vacation rentals on our 1 1/4 property in 2000.
Greg is a realtor with Clark Realty Corp. and I ( Nancy ), manage our two vacation rentals. We have one dog. His name is Peaberry and is 5.
Along with a Siamese cat named Mr. Mow, who is 13.

Stayed at the unit for 12 days, big lanai with table and lounge chairs great for enjoying the wonderful view. The unit is not big but more than adequate for a couple, the location is close to Kona and all the west side beaches. The hosts were awesome, the grounds immaculate with laundry facilities and beach equipment (chairs, coolers, snorkeling equipment, Boogie board, beach towels). The kitchen has a hot plate, toaster oven, toaster, full size frig, blender and all the need equipment for meals, there is a TV with cable and DVD player. Now for the down side, this unit is on the bottom floor and footsteps can echo down, not a real issue for us. Secondly the internet is slow, luckily I have Verizon with good coverage, AT&T is spotty though. Mahalo
Fully screened in Lanai with coastline views. Minutes from the shore and groceries. All you need for the perfect getaway from Kona.

Nancy & Greg are very nice and have built a wonderful pair of vacation rentals next to there home. Everything you need is available and we loved the location up and away from the crowded Kona coast town. The Lani was our favorite, large and comfortable and full of views! Summer nights were a little warm without air conditioning but fan and soft breeze helped. Fun watching the gecko's catch lil bugs :) Thank you for a memorable nice vacation stay! Ken & DeAnna
We stayed at the Bamboo Hideaway unit downstairs for two full weeks and had breakfast on the lanai almost everyday. We enjoyed everyday we were there and the location is convenient to local (Captain Cook) stores, restaurants, shopping and about an hour and a half to the volcano. Everything in the unit we needed was available for use to include boogie boards, umbrella, water shoes etc.. which were located at the garage. Nancy and Greg made sure we were taken care off and we thank you for letting us use your place. We would recommend to anyone to rent a unit from them. Hope to be there again next year. Mahalo
We have stayed at House of Refuge many times, always in the upstairs unit. This was our first time staying in the downstairs unit, and we were wondering if it might feel a bit small. To our delight, it was not too small or crowded and worked great for us. Everything we needed was right there at our fingertips, and the view was still fantastic. We have rented exclusively from Nancy and Greg at House of Refuge for many years after exploring several other options on the Big Island. The location is perfect for privacy, peace and quiet, and convenience to the south Kona sights and beaches. Now we have experienced both the Bamboo Hideaway and the Captain's Suite, we have two good options for our visits. Your hosts are friendly, accommodating, reliable, and respectful of your privacy. This is one of those rare vacation rentals that you don't have to worry about - it's all good!
