PARADISE! That's the first thing that entered our minds when we came to Galiano Island. Close to major cities, but yet you feel a million miles away. Many unspoiled, natural and wild beaches, friendly people and west coast wilderness all around.
Our house is nestled in a fir and arbutus forest, with lots of sunlight, fantastic ocean, mountain and sunset views, and a very cozy and comfortable house to relax in. There is not a single house to be seen from our Galiano Getaway Cottage so you can find the peace and quiet you have been looking for.
Children are welcome in our house as our house is child friendly. There's lots to do on the island; swim, bike, explore or shop... or you can relax on the deck and read your book!! If you are trying to get away from the 'Madding Crowd', give our house on Galiano Island a visit!!

Jim and I fell in love with Galiano in 1988 and were fortunate to be able to buy our house there. We have spent a lot of time fixing it up for ourselves and for others to use.
Amanda Harris purchased this cottage in 1988
We have had so many wonderful times on Galiano Island. We exchanged our wedding vows with our family and friends around us in Bluff Park overlooking Active Pass, on Galiano in 1989. Since then we have spent time every summer with our two daughters exploring the island and spending time together. When we escape to Galiano from Vancouver for a few days,
we always feel rejuvenated and energized when we return to our busy city lives. In the spring and fall we try to get over
to the island with our friends- long weekends with other families, Jim with his poker friends and Amanda with her
women friends. The house is fabulous for just getting away and being together.
Our favorite things to do on the island are walking in to Pebble Beach, jumping off the dock at the government dock at
the north end, walking around the trail at Montague Park, going for ice cream at the marina and scoops, shopping at
Ixchel craft shop, watching movies Saturday afternoon at the Gulf Islands film school, swimming at Morning beach or
Cable Bay, playing monopoly and reading books out on our deck and best of all, having a relaxing dinner out on our
deck as the sun goes down.
We had such a great time on Galiano Island - thanks so much for making it possible!
Our time was too short, though. So we will definitely make plans to return again!
Your place is beautiful - just gorgeous.
Thanks again.
We had two children and two large dogs and we felt right at home as soon as we arrived at Galiano Getaway. The cottage had everything we needed and the view of the ocean was spectacular. Hiking on the island was excellent and no predators made it a carefree activity. Coming from rural Ontario (voracious blackfly, deerfly and mosquito country), I loved, loved, loved no bugs 'till dusk and then only some mosquitos came out: whole days outside without being eaten alive - heaven!! The cottage was on the north side of the island and was very private, but there are other cottages nearby, so it wasn't isolated. Checking in was seamless and we didn't have any cause to contact Amanda, but she thoughtfully contacted us to make sure everything was okay mid-week. Overall, Galiano Getaway was a great vacation home, aptly named.
What a great spacious home with wonderful ocean views and privacy.
Great mini scrambling hike on property towards the ocean and a wonderful selection of movies for those cozy family evenings by the wood stove.
Our little dachshund made himself right at home!
There was 5 of us plus our dog, and it was spacious and inviting.
Will definitely recommend this Island gem!

This cabin was great in many ways! The best thing was the location. It was nestled in the woods, with lots of privacy. It was about a 30 minute drive from the ferry terminal, along beautiful, forested, curvy roads. The store and restaurants were at least a 20 minute drive away, so we had to plan if we needed anything. The view from the front deck was a treat, as we watched ships, sailboats and beautiful skies! Our kids loved exploring the land around the cabin, using the rope swing, and our dog loved bounding through the mossy rocks and tall trees. The steep path down to a rocky cove was about a 10 minute walk. We also walked down the lane to the ocean which was less of an adventure. We drove to different trailheads and hiked to some beautiful beaches. We also hiked up Mount Galiano which provided a fantastic view of the ocean and surrounding islands. The inside of the cabin was everything we needed for two adults and five kids. The beds were very comfortable (all of them). There was space for the movie watchers downstairs and a cozy living room upstairs to read, listen to music and gaze out at the ocean. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our meals. We enjoyed sitting on the covered deck and the big window in the upstairs bedroom looked out onto the ocean which was a pleasure to wake up to. The owner was attentive and prompt in answering any questions. The weather was awesome, even in March, and this was very relaxing vacation!
We really enjoyed our stay. The house is as described and was perfect for a family get-away. We only wish we had been able to stay for a week :) Amanda was very friendly and easy to communicate with. The house had everything we needed and a beautiful location.
Fantastic cottage, with all you need to live comfortably. Excellent games and books. Also, it is equipped with an old VHS player and tapes - a nostalgic trip to the past.
We enjoyed a lovely week at Galiano Getaway with our little 1-year-old and 3-year-old. The island is a great place to explore with young kids, especially if you're armed with insider information from Amanda. Morning Beach was incredible; we spent three different days there, splashing around in the shallow (and surprisingly warm - for the Pacific) water and hunting for starfish and crabs. We also loved Spotlight Cove (10-15 minute walk from the house) and Retreat Cove.
We had a few solid meals out (Babes in the Woods; Black Dog; Robin & Crane) but ended up cooking and eating most of our meals out on the deck of the house, which is splendid. The entire house is filled with charm. You know how there are some VRBOs that seem set up just as money-makers, and others where the owners clearly spend time there? Galiano Getaway is obviously in the latter camp. There are all sorts of signals - deck shades to help block the afternoon sun, a hanging lighter to light evening candles - that the owners care about and love this home.
We all slept great in comfortable beds (our 1-year-old was very happy tucked away in a pack-and-play in the downstairs bedroom) and thoroughly enjoyed the layout and overall feel (light, airy) of the house.
Amanda was a terrific resource: friendly, responsive, and chockful of information. One of our most memorable experiences was the Wednesday night North End market, which was 100% an Amanda rec. It basically felt like we got to crash a large family reunion; we'll never forget that scene, with our kids running around in the grass and dancing to guitar music. The entire time on Galiano was fabulous. We intend to return.
