VRBO Testimonials from before they had customer reviews (we have been doing this a long time!):

From March '09: Ms. Greenwald: I just wanted you to know we had a great time in Ithaca during our stay two weeks ago. It was a really nice get away. There is really a lot to do in the area. Your house is beautiful and I see now why you had such a hard time leaving! Thank you! N.R.

From April '09: Carolyn, Just wanted to let you know that we had a wonderful time staying at your home in Ithaca. It is an absolutely beautiful home in a perfect location. We all had a lovely time! K.M.

Here is a thank-you card I received in the mail: 'Dear Carolyn. I wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed our vacation week at your lakehouse in Ithaca. It is such a beautiful house and has all the comforts of home -- PLUS that gorgeous lake. We liked the convenient location, too It is so close to downtown Ithaca and is also close to our daughter's home on ______ Road. Thank you for sharing it with us. Thank you, too for the prompt return of our security deposit. Sincerely, M.K.'

Pet Policy: Not many upscale places allow pets. We do because we love our dogs and they love to travel with us. This is a great place for dog, not only because they can go swimming, but because the deck and grass are all fenced in. You can let the dog out from the kitchen without even leaving the house. You must clean up after your pet, of course. We charge only a $30 fee for dogs that we spend on end of the year professional carpet cleaners.

House is professionally cleaned between tenants. Tenants are asked to bring up and tag garbage on Tuesday evenings. (Tags provided). Tenants are asked to leave the house 'broom clean' and to clean the grill after use.

Who Can Rent:

It is a quite area and is not appropriate for loud/late night parties.

Our property is steep. There is a long stair case to the house from the driveway. All tenants and guests must be able to navigate stair with ease. Unfortunately it is not handicapped accessible.

About Carolyn Greenwald

This is Adam canoeing the boys just off the dock. Canoe and 2 kayaks are on site for your use. Just slide them into the water.

Carolyn Greenwald purchased this house in 2001

Why Carolyn Greenwald chose Ithaca

Ithaca is a fantastic vacation spot. It is located on beautiful Cayuga Lake, the longest and deepest of the finger lakes. You can boat, dock, fish or swim right off our dock. Ithaca has three amazing state parks with fantastic hikes, amazing views and great swimming, with Taughannock Park just up the road. Ithaca is directly on the finger lakes wine trail and many wonderful wineries are nearby. There are many top quality restaurants and plenty of places to grab a quick bite. If you stay at our house, you will have easy access to Taughannock Park, Cass Park, the Hanger Theater, downtown and to Wegmans (a top supermarket), so you won't have to spend a lot of time in the car. There is also a wonderful farmer's market in Ithaca with music, good produce and a great community vibe. In other words, you can relax and do nothing but stare at nature or partake easily in many outdoor activities, it will be up to you.

What makes this house unique

The house has several wonderful features. First and foremost is the location. You are directly on the lake. You can swim. You can boat. You can jump in the lake off the dock. You can sit on the deck and relax. At the same time, we are just 1.5 miles from shops and downtown Ithaca. You have all the benefits of the lake and wine country without having to drive 25 minutes to the supermarket. My next favorite feature of the house is the sliding doors in the kitchen. You can eat outside on the deck just as easily as you can eat inside at the kitchen table. As soon as we put in those doors, we had breakfast outside every day for months. It is wonderful. The next best feature of the house is the lakeside deck. It is a great place to sit and relax or BBQ or have a cool drink.

Very private and beautiful views.

Absolutely beautiful place inside and out. Beatiful views of the lake and conveniently located close to town. The house is tucked in the trees making it private from the neighbors. Would highly recommend this place.

Any amazing lake front home so close to town

  • 4 of 5

We found the accommodations to be a perfect getaway to visit our college student and enjoy a moment of family time with her!! Thanks for making the place so welcoming. Can only imagine how awesome the view and outdoor areas would be in the warmer weather!

Owner's Response: Sounds like you loved the property in a five star kind of way (wink). We are glad you thought it was the "perfect getaway." Many parents of college students agree and continue to return for the four years of their child's time in Ithaca. We try to make the house "welcoming" and are very glad you found it to be so. We'd love to hear from you again. Return tenants are our favorite.

Great Location and Comfortable Home Base

  • 5 of 5

We (two couples and our young sons) decided to rent a house for a post-Christmas getaway in the Finger Lakes, and this was perfect for us. We wanted something quiet, close to town, and scenic so we could play games and relax at night while skiing and touring the area during the day.

The house is exactly as advertised--it was very clean, with lovely views and it's very close to town. The driveway is VERY steep and yes, there are many stairs, but that was clear to me from the description. Fortunately, despite arriving on a bitter cold and icy day, we had no problem, because the steps were shoveled and treated for us. The house was warm and inviting.

There was ample room for all 6 of us--the kids had a bedroom of their own, which made it nice for the adults to socialize after bedtime. Having a full kitchen was fantastic too--although we didn't cook much, it was nice that it was an option. The deck is amazing, and I'm sure had it been warmer, we would been out there quite a bit.

Our friends have a geriatric small dog, and being able to bring him made my friends feel much more comfortable. Looking at the reviews here, many others have brought their dogs, but there was absolutely no trace of them in the house or the yard. The house is very well maintained.

We were very happy with our stay, and if our travels took us back to the Ithaca area, we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for pointing out that our house is clean, scenic and quite close to town, that pretty much says it all. The driveway is steep so unfortunately tenants must be able bodied.

Perfect Family weekend getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful and relaxing weekend in this beautiful, well equipped lake house! When you open the front door you’re welcomed by a stunning panoramic view of Cayuga Lake! It was 20°F outside, but the house was super toasty and cozy for us! The kitchen is stylish with equally gorgeous views! Carolyn(the owner) is prompt with responses and accommodating......I highly recommend this rental! Our perfect Fall Getaway! My family looks forward to renting again!

Relaxed, energized, and tired

  • 5 of 5

House was everything we wanted for our annual trip to Fingerlakes. Beautiful view, great kitchen, comfort wherever you planted yourself, proximity to an interesting town. Add to that a nearby terrific food coop, lovely waterside park to walk dog, and fenced in area to let dog out. The 37 steps to the lake were good exercise, but the trudge uphill to the parking area made me feel old. We loved the canoe and kayaks, the fishing dock, and how well-equipped the house was with everything we needed. We loved visiting the Johnson museum and the pedestrian-only shopping in downtown Ithaca. A wonderful stay.

Owner's Response: The Fingerlakes is a great place to visit and we are so glad to hear you had a wonderful stay. The area has a lot to offer and our house is well situated for lake side fun. The west shore of cayuga lake is steep so there are steps to the house and to the lake. Our house is dog friendly and near the local dog park.
