32 rue St. Paul is located in the heart of le Marais (the 4th arrondissement), what many consider the most beautiful and historic neighborhood in Paris. The studio looks onto the stone courtyard of a lovely 18th-century building. It is recently renovated, very comfortably furnished. Most of the buildings in the Marais date from the 17th and 18th centuries, and the narrow streets, beautiful squares, and stunning architecture provide for hours of delightful rambling and exploration. We have three metros close by: St. Paul, Pont Marie and Bastille. The studio is within easy walking distance of the Place de Vosges, the Bastille, the river Seine, Ile St.-Louis, Notre Dame, the new Paris Opera House (at Bastille), theaters, cinema, open markets and shopping of every sort (be sure to pop into the charming Village St. Paul, right across the street, with its many antique shops and cobble-stoned courtyards). You’ll find a multitude of museums in the immediate vicinity: cf. especially the world-renowned Picasso Museum, the Musée Cognacq-Jay, where you not only get wonderful artworks but an 18th-century mansion, the Maison Internationale de la photographie, the Musée Victor Hugo at the Place de Vosges, the Musée Carnavalet, the latter two of which now have the added bonus of being free! Just across rue St. Antoine, the Hotel de Sully nearly always has first-rate exhibits—definitely worth checking out. The Pompidou Center is also within walking distance, with its excellent Museum of Modern Art, its many permanent and special exhibits, and fabulous views.

Both owners are academics, one of us a specialist in Victorian literature and the other in philosophy. We are originally from the Bay Area but currently live and work in Raleigh, NC.
Leila May purchased this apartment in 2003
We stayed for over a decade in a hotel in this neighborhood and fell completely in love with it. We think it's the most vibrant, interesting and beautiful part of Paris, and it has the added advantage of being close to virtually everything of interest in the city.
There are countless great restaurants, shops, museums, markets and historic sites within minutes of our apartment. We can't imagine a place where you are better located for sightseeing and for everyday living.
Location, Location, Location. We found it to be ideal. Easy walks to a number of good restaurants (our favorite “Le Temps des Cerises”), a couple minutes to the metro in one direction, and a few minutes to the Seine in the other. We needed a laundry upon arrival and we found one with a helpful attendant a few blocks away on Charlemagne. Our perception of the neighborhood was that it was quite safe to walk in late at night, and felt our possessions in the apartment were secure as well. Coming from a good sized suburban California home we found the size of the apartment a bit of a cultural shock when we first walked in, however after settling in everything was quite manageable for two adults. Ground floor was also a big plus as most buildings in the area don’t have elevators, and many of the other units we considered were 1st floor and above. WIFI signal was strong with a fast internet. This is a basic apartment in a residential neighborhood, and does not have the services, amenities or feel of a hotel or designer B&B. If you tend to lounge around your room a lot a hotel may be more comfortable, but if you want a place to stay while you get out and experience Paris this apartment may work out well for you. Leila and Don were very easy to work with through the booking, and provided neighborhood information and local contacts should a problem arise (none did for us).
My wife joined me on a business trip to Paris. This flat was perfectly located for my wife to wander and enjoy the city while I was at work. Very convenient to major cultural centers as well as boutique shops and restaurants. The flat is small, as you would expect for the price and location but sufficient for a couple and clean and well appointed. Leila and Don were very responsive and easy to conduct business with.
This was my husband's first trip abroad and I am so glad that we got to stay at this lovely apartment in the Marais district. It is close to the Seine, the Metro, bus stops and numerous restaurants. It was nice being able to spend time in the apartment, which is located in a courtyard with other apartments - very peaceful!- after a busy day of touring Paris. It was the perfect size and beautifully decorated. So much better than a hotel room. Having freshly brewed coffee each morning was so nice. Reasonably priced and very cozy. It was also so much fun shopping in the area - several grocery stores, bakeries, antique shops and more, all within a five or ten minute walk.
What a gift: We had the luxury of spending a little more than two weeks in this lovely apartment in the Marais, soaking up all that the city and this wonderful neighborhood offered. While the building itself is very charming, it's the location that is truly unbeatable. It's steps from great food and drinks, shopping, sights, a Metro stop, and, if you pack like we do, a laundromat. It's minutes on foot from the Seine and Notre-Dame. No matter what you want to see or do in Paris, this apartment makes it easy. And if you want to stay in, the fully equipped kitchenette makes that possible, too.
The owners, Don and Leila, bent over backwards to help make our stay a total, memorable success. All of their advice and recommendations were spot-on and made our trip that much more enjoyable.
We kept souvenirs from the neighborhood cafés, bars, patisseries, and produce stands we frequented; we're still using up the toiletries and (many) jars of Nutella we bought at the Monoprix right across the street. They're reminders of how very welcoming and exciting this stay was. Two thumbs up!
This is my second stay at Leila and Don's cozy studio apartment. Great location and plenty of information in the studio about the local area; where to eat, what to see. Wonderful Paris is made even better with a stay in this very authentic slice of local life.
A perfect Marais location-- a charming, cozy apartment within walking distance to bakeries, restaurants, shops, many famous sites, and the metro. Leila and Don's recommendations for restaurants, the best nearest grocery store, etc., were spot-on. Leila and Don were accessible, gracious hosts, and even e-mailed us a list of nearby hotels when it looked like our return flight via striking Air France might be cancelled (it wasn't)--
their place was, of course, already booked! We had a fabulous and memorable two weeks in Paris, thanks in large part to where we were staying.
This is unquestionably one of the most vibrant, beautiful quarters of Parius--full of incredible cultural sites, surrounded by fantastic restaurants, great shopping, close to metro and buses. You can walk to most major monuments and museums, and the river Seine is a 5-minute stroll away.
