Place needs an update
Place needs an update. The owners were great easy to work with. That's where it ends. The place was filthy. The exterior windows look like they have never been cleaned. Large spots all over the carpet. dusting was almost non existent. In addition there was mold in the bathroom and in the shower bathtub. That's the good things. The refrigerator door wouldn't close. The workman put a piece of wood between the two doors to keep it closed. Within 48 hours they replaced the Refrigerator with a new one. Also the land line phone didn't work. They replaced it the next day. In addition the internet wouldn't work. They gave me 3 different routers till we got one that worked, that was in the last week we were there. We were there 31 days and not being able to call out or use the Internet was a very big problem as I had a Stroke while I was there.
Michael’s apartment was a perfect last minute adventure for our family. As a local, he was able to run up to the resort and get our keys made so that we could just stop by his store in Lahaina (about a 5-10 minute drive from the resort itself and basically on the way from the airport to the resort) to pick up the keys. The apartment was comfortable as could be and having in-room laundry was a terrific bonus. Everything was clean as a whistle (some of the best we’ve seen, and we’ve been traveling full-time for 6 months now) and the kids were comfortable on the extra mattresses/sofa. Michael also provided plenty of extra linens and blankets, so no worries on that front. We were able to cook most of our meals, which is a savings compared to resort-area restaurant prices and the facilities at the resort itself were terrific, as was (a) not having to pay a separate resort fee, (b) getting to use the terrific pools, etc., and (c) not having to pay for parking. The food at Duke’s restaurant (on site) was excellent for the two meals we ate there. Michael provided beach towels and some accessories for heading out to the beach (a chair, a cooler, etc.). Michael’s place was an excellent value for the price and we would love to return sometime — it was lovely to sit out on the lanai to watch the sunrise. Thank you again!
Excellent Suite at the Honua Kai.
We stayed in Michael's suite at the Honua Kai in November 2017. Everything was great. The Honua Kai is an excellent resort, our suite was spacious and equipped as advertised. Our family loved it. The owner Michael was easy to work with, and gracefully accommodated a late check in on our first night. Highly recommended.
2 adults + 2 kids
Resort is near perfect. Washer/dryer in room is awesome, beds were extremely and surprisingly comfortable, enough towels, kitchen a plus, right on beach. Only thing I didn't like was you had to pay for parking, had no instructions on how to turn on A/C and some kitchen ware (spatula) was for a barbecue and not ideal for kitchen use. Lastly, had to pick up key at owners business and he did not meet us at resort.
Great stay !
2 adults one child, (11 years old). We stayed for 9 nights over Thanksgiving holiday. Owners were easy to work with and helpful. When we arrived the unit was extremely clean, and had all the necessary items. Dish, Laundry, (someone might have left it from previous stay - thanks!) hand soaps, really well stocked kitchen with small appliances. Unit is good size and close to elevators but not close enough to hear the elevators. Sofa sleeper although our kid used a fold up foam mattress and was perfectly comfortable sleeping on it the entire stay. (he's 5'2" and 140 lbs) We enjoyed the unit very much.
The unit has a large patio facing the mountains. When facing the mountains, looking down and on the right is the new parking garage for the resort being built next door. We didn't go to Maui to sit in the unit so construction did not affect our time here at all. By the time work began in the mornings we were awake and either heading down to beach or on our way out so it was not that big of a deal for us. Road noise is not terrible, noticeable but lots of waving palm trees helped drown out car noise. Evenings were quiet on the patio.
The resort itself is great for families and kids. Pools, waterslide, and large lawn area is nice. Duke's restaurant on site is also a bonus although we didn't use it much it is nice to have a option for on-site dining.
The location of the resort is along a stretch with several other resorts. Wonderful walking/running path down to Whaler's Village. From the resort to Black Rock is about 1.25 miles. Great morning exercise area pathway. Also, you can walk a much shorter distance to another bar or restaurant at other resorts.
Beach access is simple - right in front of resort and is a wonderful sandy beach. Boogie Boarding and snorkeling, (go out past the waves) was fine. Napili Bay has better snorkeling but no boogie boarding so this location is a nice mix between the two activities.
We will stay here again !
Thank you kindly Catherine and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to your family!!!!!
Great vacation spot
I reserved a four night stay for my daughter and her husband, celebrating my daughter's birthday week. The owners Michael and Phoenix were so pleasant to work and very accommodating for this stay. My daughter and her husband absolutely love their condo-clean, great location and everything to welcome them for their stay. Very easy transition before hand to pick up the keys in Lahaina town before heading out to the condo. The resort had everything to enjoy. Thank you again to Michael and Phoenix. Please stay here if you are looking for a wonderful getaway at a very nice resort atmosphere!
We thank you very much for staying with us and see you all again soon!
