PERFECT GETAWAY!

  • 5 of 5

Our 5 night stay with Carlos and Jodi was thoroughly enjoyable. The property is fun to explore - the trails were well established and the view from the top was awesome. What a gorgeous shoreline! The whales were delightful - every morning we sat on the upper lanai and drank coffee and quickly became champion whale watchers! Stunning animals - what a treat! Spent days on the beach, but also spent one whole day just hanging at the lower palapa and enjoyed that space immensely! Carlos is a wonderful chef and Jodi an amazing host! We enjoyed our conversations with Jodi, and learning about their unique property and how it has come into all its glory! Carlos booked us a boat trip to Isle de Corales. Just the boat ride would have been enough of an adventure, but we did a bit of paddle boarding once we docked at the island. Got there early to avoid the crowds that I’m sure arrived throughout the day! Skipped the snorkeling to get back on the water to chase some whales. They didn’t let us down - we followed, or were followed for about 15-20 minutes by a beautiful male. YAY FOR WHALES!. A great trip. Comfy bed for good nights of sleeping to all the jungle and ocean noises. Absolutely loved Mar al Cielo! Outdoor living is good for the soul. Get there! Oh yeah, the birds were always dropping by to give us serenades as well. What a great experience. We will definately be back - and I hope it is sooner, than later! A little piece of heaven on earth!

Excellentae !!

  • 5 of 5

Jodi and Carlos were the best hosts... ‘Privacy’ at it’s utmost unless you want them for the amazing meals they can provide. The property is stunning with jungle and nature trails. Beautiful scenery from your private house where you overlook the jungle and ocean. The lower living area is the best for whale watching as it is over 200 feet high. The large birds of prey are flying past at eye level with your chairs.. stunning! .. best beach of Los de Marcos next door, but your own private beach is below with the odd fishermen and oyster divers giving much enjoyment for curious. The kitchen is well stocked which we extremely appreciated. We have travelled alot and this property truly delivered and excelled our expections. Well done Mar al Cielo !!

A must have experience!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was absolute heaven on earth. Even before we arrived at Mar al Cielo, Jodi was nothing but helpful and informative within a split second of sending her a message. Once we arrived we had such a warm welcome and couldn't believe our eyes at the place- pictures do NOT do it justice. This is quite literally the most amazing views you will ever see! It was completely private and you had the entire jungle to yourself (which sounded a bit scary to me at first but we couldn't have felt more safe). It was a ton of fun interacting with Raul and Jodi and learning more about the culture, food, surroundings etc. I would recommended having Carlos prepare (all) of your meals - he is phanomenal and its so nice to sit there and take in the views while having an amazing meal prepared for you. I would also recommend going on the trails whenever you can (preferably right in the morning) as the views at the top are absolutely unreal. Then head down to the palapa for some fresh mexican cuisine and off to the private beaches for kayaking, snorkelling, swimming, etc.

A small FYI that the wifi is a bit iffy- although its not necessary while here. I rarely got on it but my partner had a bit more luck. Jodi did provide an alternative if its not working but we didn't feel the need to try this out.

Jodi, Raul, and mystery chef Carlos made our say 10 stars. We stayed for 5 days but I think a week should be minimum- there was so much more to take in. We are already planning our return to our Mexico home away from home!

Paradise Found!

  • 5 of 5

What a special, wonderful escape! All the reviews are true. In addition to the obvious natural beauty that surrounds Mar al Cielo, Carlos' skill as a carpenter and craftsman is embedded in all the manmade structures. The interior of the palapa has a style and beauty that is difficult to capture in a photo. The landscaping and housekeeping show meticulous care by Raul. Jodi made us feel like we could always reach her for help and treated us like royalty. In fact, thanks to Jodi we were able to take part in a sea turtle rescue release one evening, which we shall never forget. Although we explored nearby towns every day of our week-long stay, we were often tempted to just stay put - it is so relaxing and beautiful in the outdoor living room. At our request, Carlos prepared a very special dinner for our Thanksgiving meal and Jodi served it splendidly. Truly incredible and memorable. We really can't say enough about these very dear people and their magical casa. We hope to return soon and envy those who are already there!

Return to Paradise

  • 5 of 5

This is our second time to stay at Mar Al Cielo. We had a great experience the first time and even better this time. Carlos and Jodi cooked for us breakfast and dinner for 10 days. Carlos' cooking skills are exquisite and Jodi's attention to details made us feel like we were at a 10 star resort. Be sure to try the breakfast tamales and leave the menu open to Carlos as he will not disappoint. We also scheduled a shuttle to and from the airport rather than renting a car. This took the stress out of us driving and Pepe was very helpful at the grocery store. Our shopping experience was much easier! This trip I was able to see an emerald humming bird which from what I understand is quite rare. There are many wildlife opportunities, viewing unique humming birds, butterflies and tropical birds. It's in the jungle so you can just imagine what you may see or hear on any given day. Our normal lives are such a rat race and we forget to stop and smell the flowers. This place allows us to find that again. It helps us find some peace and tranquility in the jungle by listening and seeing the birds, lizards and the ocean whether it be night or morning or the middle of the day. Be sure to ask Jodi about the noise or sightings you hear and see. She will more than likely be able to tell you what you heard or even saw. She is a great resource to your experience here, and I think she enjoys sharing as much as Carlos enjoys the cooking! We can't wait to book our next visit!

A true getaway

  • 5 of 5

Nowadays, true getaways are hard to come by. Most vacations I had been on before with families and friends were always fun, but always a commercial experience. Mar Al Cielo was not one of those experiences. It's original, genuine, and breathtaking. Jodi and Carlos and the team were unbelievably accommodating, and really appreciated just how blown away my wife and I were on our honeymoon. And although this place is secluded and private and nested up on a mountain (feeling a million miles from civilization), there was never a dull moment. My wife and I spent a week here, and we could have spent 51 more weeks there no problem. Mar Al Cielo has a lot to offer, it was tough to choose what to do even with a completely open agenda. You could spend days hiking around your 11 acres of hilly and junglesome land, or walk down to the beach with a 6-pack, chips and guacamole. You could go snorkeling or horseback riding, or even on a whale tour to name a few easily accessible activities. Every night we had no problem taking in a real Pacific sunset as it dipped into an ocean with no end which was essentially our front yard for the week. One night we decided to get a sunset dinner made by Chef Carlos himself (which I highly recommend, no offense to my wife's cooking which was phenomenal as well *cough *cough) which came with the whole 9 yards of margaritas, a beautifully obscure cut of steak paired with a sauce (which my wife and I tried to replicate and came nowhere close, she is still a great cook though) that was to die for, an amazing desert, and wine, sorry I am going off about it but it was unbelievable. In the city of Lo De Marcos, you can feel welcome while amongst true locals. There was no such thing as a tourist there because everyone who came from out of town was truly accepted. The lodge itself was worth the whole stay, feeling just enough outside allowing you to enjoy the weather, with the comfort of being indoors, enjoying the beautiful views and a bed that might as well have been made out of clouds. We enjoyed many star-filled nights in the outdoor bathtub, and shared too many laughs situated in the outdoor kitchen and lounge which is also solely yours through-out your stay. The second we left was also the second we were trying to figure when we could come back.
