Incredible property and extremely wonderful owners

  • 5 of 5

Mar al Cielo exceeded our expectations on our first ever trip to Mexico. The property was exceptionally clean, private and quiet. Looking out to the west at sunset and at night toward the ocean, not one light was visible. Upon arrival, Jodi gave us a complete and sensitive orientation to the property. She was an amazing host, generous with her time and information. Upon arrival, she gave us a cell phone so that we could call her easily any time of the day or night.

We had two dinners prepared by Carlos that Jodi served us under the wonderful palapa overlooking the ocean. Awesome and the price was very affordable to retirees like us. The kitchen was fully equipped; we lacked for nothing and used the provided grill on multiple nights. They provide mask, snorkels and fins, beach chairs and umbrella, small cooler and even water shoes for days at the beach.

We failed to take in advance the advice from Carlos that we wouldn't need a rental car. He was RIGHT! We had to pay $625 for a one week rental, 2/3's of which was insurance. Mar el Cielo will pick you up at the airport and even let you grocery shop on the way "home". Between Raul, their man Friday, and local taxi services, you will NOT need a rental car!

Jodi arranged massages for both of us by a woman named Tamara - pure ecstasy under the palapa. The two outdoor showers were to die for. We hiked most of the trails that Jodi has established in their tropical 11 acres of property.

It was interesting walking the small village streets of Lo de Marcos. We resolved early on to learn some basic Spanish before future visits. Our experience would have been richer if we could have communicated more in Spanish. Our only disappointment, which had nothing to do with Jodi and Carlos, was the lack locally of activities that we perhaps would have tried. Forget the nearest golf course - it's a cow pasture. I took a 1/2 day "bottom fishing" trip, but all we were targeting I'd call "panfish".

Bottom line. We loved just being at, cooking, relaxing and just hanging out at Mar al Cielo. We felt that we didn't need to go anywhere or do anything else. Carlos and Jodi are incredible people and hosts. If you want peace, quiet, and privacy, stay at Mar al Cielo!

Truly a hidden GEM!!!

Mar al Cielo was a vacation dream come true! A SURREAL experience!

My only disappointment was not booking a longer stay. My husband and I booked this beautiful private retreat for our honeymoon. Having just left a busy hotel resort in PV, with family and friends, Mar al Cielo was the perfect place to experience much needed rest and relaxation. Upon arriving, Jodi provided us with a very warm welcome, showed us around the premises, and provided us with excellent suggestions for food and activities. We instantly felt comfortable and at home. The feeling of serenity was with us during our entire stay. Everything about Mar al Cielo was BREATHTAKING! The views, the wildlife, the jungle surroundings, our casita roja...all amazing. We highly recommend specially prepared meals provided by Carlos. Dinner in the palapa while watching the sunset and hearing the tejones sip water from the pond was definitely one of the many favorite moments at Mar al Cielo.

All the positive feedback that was mentioned in previous reviews is 100% accurate!!!

Thank you Jodi, Carlos and Raul for your hospitality and kindness. My husband and I are certain we will be returning to Mar al Cielo in the near future:)

A wonderful secluded relaxing retreat

  • 5 of 5

Day we arrived driving up the dirt road through the jungle we knew we were in for a treat. We were warmly welcomed by Carlos, Jody, and Raul. Jody showed us around the palapa area overlooking the ocean and then up to our room hidden in the jungle. We spent five completely relaxing days there, enjoying the ocean, watching whales and birds, walks in to town to buy groceries for breakfast, Carlos's wonderful dinners and Jodi's charming hospitality. This is a place we are looking forward to returning!

Our 5 night stay with Carlos and Jodi was thoroughly enjoyable. The property is fun to explore - the trails were well established and the view from the top was awesome. What a gorgeous shoreline! The whales were delightful - every morning we sat on the upper lanai and drank coffee and quickly became champion whale watchers! Stunning animals - what a treat! Spent days on the beach, but also spent one whole day just hanging at the lower palapa and enjoyed that space immensely! Carlos is a wonderful chef and Jodi an amazing host! We enjoyed our conversations with Jodi, and learning about their unique property and how it has come into all its glory! Carlos booked us a boat trip to Isle de Corales. Just the boat ride would have been enough of an adventure, but we did a bit of paddle boarding once we docked at the island. Got there early to avoid the crowds that I’m sure arrived throughout the day! Skipped the snorkeling to get back on the water to chase some whales. They didn’t let us down - we followed, or were followed for about 15-20 minutes by a beautiful male. YAY FOR WHALES!. A great trip. Comfy bed for good nights of sleeping to all the jungle and ocean noises. Absolutely loved Mar al Cielo! Outdoor living is good for the soul. Get there! Oh yeah, the birds were always dropping by to give us serenades as well. What a great experience. We will definately be back - and I hope it is sooner, than later! A little piece of heaven on earth!

Excellentae !!

  • 5 of 5

Jodi and Carlos were the best hosts... ‘Privacy’ at it’s utmost unless you want them for the amazing meals they can provide. The property is stunning with jungle and nature trails. Beautiful scenery from your private house where you overlook the jungle and ocean. The lower living area is the best for whale watching as it is over 200 feet high. The large birds of prey are flying past at eye level with your chairs.. stunning! .. best beach of Los de Marcos next door, but your own private beach is below with the odd fishermen and oyster divers giving much enjoyment for curious. The kitchen is well stocked which we extremely appreciated. We have travelled alot and this property truly delivered and excelled our expections. Well done Mar al Cielo !!

A must have experience!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was absolute heaven on earth. Even before we arrived at Mar al Cielo, Jodi was nothing but helpful and informative within a split second of sending her a message. Once we arrived we had such a warm welcome and couldn't believe our eyes at the place- pictures do NOT do it justice. This is quite literally the most amazing views you will ever see! It was completely private and you had the entire jungle to yourself (which sounded a bit scary to me at first but we couldn't have felt more safe). It was a ton of fun interacting with Raul and Jodi and learning more about the culture, food, surroundings etc. I would recommended having Carlos prepare (all) of your meals - he is phanomenal and its so nice to sit there and take in the views while having an amazing meal prepared for you. I would also recommend going on the trails whenever you can (preferably right in the morning) as the views at the top are absolutely unreal. Then head down to the palapa for some fresh mexican cuisine and off to the private beaches for kayaking, snorkelling, swimming, etc.

A small FYI that the wifi is a bit iffy- although its not necessary while here. I rarely got on it but my partner had a bit more luck. Jodi did provide an alternative if its not working but we didn't feel the need to try this out.

Jodi, Raul, and mystery chef Carlos made our say 10 stars. We stayed for 5 days but I think a week should be minimum- there was so much more to take in. We are already planning our return to our Mexico home away from home!
