The region of Lisboa e Vale do Tejo is particularly well suited to get to know the Portuguese and their cozy way of life. Although there is very little tourism here, the country is relatively densely populated. There are many small original villages and some larger county towns where Portuguese everyday life goes its way. In summer, the Portuguese from the larger cities like to spend their holidays with the family in this region, because everything is still as they like it.
Those who are interested in Portuguese culture and history will get their money worth. There is a lot to discover: medieval villages and monasteries on the list of World Heritage Sites; Castles, stone witnesses who tell of their founding by the Knights Templar; the legendary Christ Monastery and finally Fátima, one of the world's most important pilgrimage sites. The interesting caves in the mountains and the footprints of their first visitors - the dinosaurs - come from much earlier times.
