Bayfront Cottage Along Dona Bay, Great Views and Private Dock

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 1 - 2 nights

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Beautiful views from this bayfront cottage. New paint, furniture, and 47' LCD hi def tv are just a part of the amenities. This modest and clean cottage lies along the northern shore line of Dona Bay, enjoying the same views and setting as the neighborhood of multi million dollar homes. The views and atmosphere are spectacular.

The recently remodeled cottage has two bedrooms. One with a pillowtop queen bed and the other with two single beds. Each bedroom has cable tv. There is also a separate dining room, an eat in kitchen, living room, laundry, and two baths. It has Verizon FIOS 47' hi def tv and high speed wireless internet. The home sits about 50 feet off the shore line providing up close waterfront views from most rooms of the cottage. The home also has it's own private dock. Bring your own boat for quick access to the Gulf (dock fee may apply). Rental boats nearby. Be sure to mention boat or trailer needs when inquiring.

Enjoy boating, fishing or crabbing on your private dock. Canoe or kayak from Oscar Scherer State Park. Boat rentals nearby. Beaches within 1.5 miles. Bicycle to the beach or public tennis courts, which are both about one and a half mile away.

Many fine restaurants in the area. Many beautiful golf courses to choose from. Rent a boat, windsurf, parasail or charter fishing nearby. Shell and shark's tooth hunt on the famous Casperson Beach. A ten minute drive to Sarasota and 50 minutes to Tampa (Busch Gardens and Adventure Island), and 1 hour 45 minutes to all of the Orlando attractions. Yes, I mean Disney and much more.

There is no smoking permitted on the property, inside or outside. Pets may be accepted with additional fee and deposit OR credit card on file. Please provide pet breed/info upon inquiry.

The cottage is the downstairs unit of a duplex. The upstairs unit is rented from the first week of January through the end of March to a couple in their 70 s with a standard poodle. They have been renting the upstairs unit for fifteen consecutive years. I live next door and can assure you they are a quiet couple and the dog rarely barks. Otherwise, I would not have had them as my neighbor and tenant for the last fifteen years. The upstairs is not occupied during any of the remaining months. It is then like a single family house from April through early January.

Nice, quiet weekend getaway

  • 4 of 5

The property was very nice for us as we had friends from out of state down and we had plenty of space inside and outside. Also, was very nice having a full size kitchen that was well stocked for us to make dinner for two nights. The first night we were able to BBQ outside and enjoy the weather and fishing off the dock and the second night we cooked a big dinner on the stove and all hung out inside (due to the rain). Was nice to have two bathrooms for us and our guests to use. We knew when we rented the property that it was not renovated and was kind of dated so that was not a huge problem for us. It is about a 5-10 minute drive to Casey Key beach. Overall nice, quiet location and nice size just a bit dated.

Best convenient yet secluded location!!

  • 5 of 5

This was a last minute booking which at the time we could care less about location as long as we had a place to keep our boat. When we arrived we were surprised big time by how roomy the place was. Everything was perfect! Our favorite part about the house was how close the home was to the Venice inlet and it being a straight shot on a boat. The yard was a great place to picnic at with the perfect grass and fun trees to climb on. We will definitely be back!! Thank you Brian!!

Boater's paradise

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect if you have a boat and want easy, frequent access to the water. We don't live far away but wanted a weekend of hassle-free boating. It was perfect! The dock that came with the house was just what we needed. Another perk was our dogs were allowed to come, too! We took the dogs everywhere, even out to eat by boat. Everything was just minutes away by water. Bryan was an amazing host, very accommodating and gracious. Thank you!

Beautiful area!

  • 5 of 5

We brought our boat for a nice weekend in the Nokomis/Venice Beach area. Easy access to intercoastal and open waters. Just kept the boat in the water and was a breeze in and out every day. Cottage was bigger than we expected. It's an older place but the owner does his best to maintain it. Had a great time! Crows Nest was great for dinner too!

We've stayed in many VRBO properties and I typically rate them as a 5, however, this place was disappointing. I will say it has a beautiful view and was clean and quiet. We didn't really use the kitchen, but it seemed like it was well stocked. The owners live next door and we had a pleasant conversation with them on our second night.

We came in on a Friday night and there was a very strong odor of stale cigarette smoke. Luckily it was cool and windy, so we opened up and let it air out. The windows are difficult to open due to the locking system and they are very heavy. The larger windows require 2 people to open them. After that it wasn't too bad. There are 4 large a/c wall units that we did not use as it was a cool weekend and we were concerned that they would give off the cigarette smoke odor.

The twin beds were just okay as far as comfort and there was no TV in that room. I texted the owner about the TV so there was no question about why it wasn't there when we left, and he offered to have one put in. We declined as we were only there for 2 nights. Our son said that the queen mattress was good.

The showers were not working properly at all. At first the water would be coming out fine, but once you got in the shower the flow would slow way down and become cold. The fixtures were very old and we assumed it was a plumbing issue and only being there 2 nights we didn't complain, but did let the owner know there was a problem after the fact. He said it was a filter issue with the hot water tank and was fixed in 5 minutes. Lesson learned, complain immediately.

There is an apartment above that was not occupied while we were there, so I can't say how noisy that might be if it were.

Owner's Response: I am glad you found the cottage to have beautiful views, and to be clean and quiet. The cottage was vacant for a few weeks before your arrival. Prior guest was there for three months and definitely were non smokers. I know how a closed up place could be stale smelling until aired out. I am glad after airing it out it went away. The mini split ac units will help remove humidity as well. ** I checked out the screen filter to the instant water heater. It had sediment build up. I also cleaned the shower heads. Problem solved. No plumbing issues. Strong showers again. Only 5 minutes to clean. ** We would like all guests to let us know right away of any troubles. We can then remedy the trouble and have your stay more comfortable, as well as for the next guests. ** The upstairs unit is only rented for January, February, and March exclusively to the same wonderful couple for 17 years. Not an issue other months.
