Large, bright and very Mexican
My husband and I spent 6 wonderful days at the Villa. With 4 bedrooms and baths the place would definitely be suitable for a large family. The bedrooms are all huge. The living room(s) one we used for reading the other for watching TV, huge dining room and roomy kitchen were more than we expected. All the pots, pans and cutlery you could need were provided. There is a washer and dryer on the premises although you could only do small washes so for a family that might be an issue. Three of the bedrooms are on the main floor and there is a single large b/r and bath with huge balcony upstairs.
Great location. You can easily walk to town where there are lots and lots of typical Mexican restaurants and the food was great. Merida, a city of about 800,000 is a short 25 minute drive. So if you want to shop, Merida is the place to go. 3 Walmarts, a Costco, a Sam's Club and Starbucks along with high end malls can all be found there. And if you are looking for 5 star restaurants you won't have any problem finding them there.
You literally park on the beach and the ocean was a very short walk a way. There is a large stretch of sand between the house and the water. The pool is quite small but adequate however it was unheated.
The property is managed by a local firm and the gentleman who is responsible for the villa, Marco, is so accommodating. He is literally only a cell call away and was so helpful with suggestions on restaurants and shopping destinations.
Paradise in Progresso
We've stayed at Castillo Blanca three times now and have come to love both Progreso and this beautiful house. It's spacious and airy inside and out and waking up each morning in the master suite to the view of the gulf is pure paradise. As stated in the listing there is plenty to do within walking distance, including great shopping and resturants, but I would definitely recommend renting a car. Progresso has not as yet become a full blown tourist town and while this only adds to its charm it's not for the Club Med traveler. Here you live native, grocery shopping in the local bodega and english is still rare. Both Genya, (owner), and Tamara, (house manager) are helpful with any information you may need as well as full of great suggestions for the many day trips you'll want to take in the area. The beautiful city of Merida alone is worth a day or two, not to mention an abundance of Mayan sites – some just a few just minutes away. You'll also find yourself perfectly content to spend many an afternoon in the courtyard near the pool, another beautiful setting.
Close to Myan Ruins...Cenotes....Flamingos ! Walking distance to town ( Progreso) and restaurants. On new Malecon you can see the five mile pier from- terrace front, see pool -terrace back
