About Marilly Morton

Fred, as a teacher, is a life time learner. His passion is family, reading and sports. Marilly has a passion for family, birds, photography and traveling, visiting Nicaragua, The Netherlands, Germany & Italy. We both visited Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, Switzerland, Aruba, Vancouver Island & Victoria BC, and Fred managed a sailing trip to Belize with our oldest son.

To keep the international flavor in our home, we hosted exchange students including: two German, two Japanese, two Koreans, and one Colombian.

Besides our four vacation rentals, we own 2 Subway stores (in Portland, OR).

Marilly Morton purchased this lodge in 2008

Why Marilly Morton chose Packwood

We love the mountains, and Packwood is very like Switzerland, only the mountains are smaller and farther apart. It is in the center of Gifford Pinchot Nat'l Forest, 7 miles from the southern entrance to Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park, and surround by Tatoosh, William O Douglass, and Goat Rocks Wilderness areas. There is a constant flow of wildlife including: elk, coyotes, raccoon, fox, black bear, bald eagles, beaver and more, and year round recreational activities.

What makes this lodge unique

I enjoy being outside in the hot tub under a star studded sky with wood smoke on the wind from the fire pit while elk pass by, what a combination! Throwing snowballs from the hot tub in the midst of winter made for a great memory and photo shoot. Indoors offers every comfort from home and even more with a far infrared sauna to soothe tired muscles. I never tire of watching the many faces of Mt. Rainier or the elk and birds at the Lodge. It's a great place for dreaming!

Guestbook comments from the owner

HI there,

Just wanted to say a BIG THANKS for a wonderful weekend with our entire family!! The place was in tip-top condition and more than we were expecting. The place was perfect for us with sleeping, eating (love the BIG table), relaxing...the view and weather couldn't have been better!!

We went on day hikes in the area, found our church services in Morton for Sunday (we are Mormon) and appreciated your generous hospitality to open such a lovely home for us to enjoy together.

We loved the campfires at night and visiting around them. It was nice to have all 6 of our children gathered around the campfire and enjoy conversations and look into all their faces...truly a beautiful sight!!

Anyway, I don't know if you get to hear from your renters, but we absolutely LOVED our time there and say THANKS for having us!!

Wonderful House

  • 5 of 5

We loved this house. So very clean and fully stocked with everything you need to cook. I also liked the detailed instructions that the owner provided - they were very helpful. We took advantage of the hot tub every night after being sore from hiking. I also tried out the sauna and really enjoyed it. We loved the large colored hot tub towels. The beds are comfortable and the dinning room table is beautiful. We spent many mornings and evenings on the back porch. Every day an elk herd visited us at the house! We even got to see some baby elk nurse. Sitting on the front and back decks watching the elk is a highlight of our trip. Since we visited during a heat wave - having central AC was key. During our stay, we hiked in Mt. Rainier, visited Mount Saint Helen and hiked Ape Cave. I highly recommend this house.

A+

Beautiful home with a terrific view of the mountain. Very clean and comfortable. The crib, highchair, child gate, and other childproofing made for a relaxing stay with our toddler. We enjoyed coming back to the hot tub, sauna, and fire pit after long days of hiking in nearby Mt Rainer NP. We watched bats come out at night and elk wander through in the morning. The owner was reponsive and pleasant to work with. An all around lovely VRBO.

So beautiful and peaceful!!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived late evening and everything was ready. We got up the next morning and walked into town to the coffee shop. Such a beautiful little town. The house is close enough to town to walk too but secluded enough to be quiet and peaceful. The view of the mountain is like none other. The accommodations were perfect for our group. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need and having laundry soap was a huge help. Hope to come back and visit again!!!

PS the many elk we saw throughout Packwood was an added bonus

Fabulous place!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 5 days while visiting Mt. Rainier. Location was perfect - close to Paradise and an easy drive to Sunrise. Packwood has several eating locations with good food. Market has a good selection of food to make meals at the Lodge - kitchen is well stocked. Hot tub was nice after long hikes. We had a family of elk eat breakfast with us in our front yard!! Would definitely recommend staying here!

Great Location and Spacious House

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was very clean and quite well stocked with all your necessary kitchen items to have a great weekend away. The hot tub, sauna, and fire pit are all great amenities and the view from the living room is really quite stunning. The living room and kitchen all being open also makes for a great environment for families or groups. The bunk room with the bunk bed was a bit odd being off the garage and was quite cold at night, even in the summer. Not an ideal spot in the winter maybe, but it does the job well enough if you need the extra bed space. I'd definitely recommend the cabin though based on amenities, location and price. Super convenient to get to many areas in Rainier National Park and the surrounding areas. :)

Beautiful location and all amenities you could ever ask for

  • 5 of 5

Staying at this property made for a wonderful weekend getaway! I went here with 7 other friends for a weekend and the lodge had everything we could ask for. The kitchen was well stocked, beds comfortable, and backyard was very fun to hang out in (fire pit, grill, and hot tub all included). The property is fairly easy to find and check was a breeze given the keyed access. Would recommend and stay here again.
