About Marilly Morton
Fred, as a teacher, is a life time learner. His passion is family, reading and sports. Marilly has a passion for family, birds, photography and traveling, visiting Nicaragua, The Netherlands, Germany & Italy. We both visited Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, Switzerland, Aruba, Vancouver Island & Victoria BC, and Fred managed a sailing trip to Belize with our oldest son. To keep the international flavor in our home, we hosted exchange students including: two German, two Japanese, two Koreans, and one Colombian. Besides our four vacation rentals, we own 2 Subway stores (in Portland, OR).
Marilly Morton purchased this Lodge in 2008
Why Marilly Morton chose Packwood
We love the mountains, and Packwood is very like Switzerland, only the mountains are smaller and farther apart. It is in the center of Gifford Pinchot Nat'l Forest, 7 miles from the southern entrance to Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park, and surround by Tatoosh, William O Douglass, and Goat Rocks Wilderness areas. There is a constant flow of wildlife including: elk, coyotes, raccoon, fox, black bear, bald eagles, beaver and more, and year round recreational activities.
What makes this Lodge unique
I enjoy being outside in the hot tub under a star studded sky with wood smoke on the wind from the fire pit while elk pass by, what a combination! Throwing snowballs from the hot tub in the midst of winter made for a great memory and photo shoot. Indoors offers every comfort from home and even more with a far infrared sauna to soothe tired muscles. I never tire of watching the many faces of Mt. Rainier or the elk and birds at the Lodge. It's a great place for dreaming!

We enjoyed our stay. The living room/kitchen was comfortable and accommodated our group of 8 easily. The propane stove was a nice touch. The location is very convenient to town and White Pass. There were a few little things I will pass on - not a complaint just to let you know. We are tea drinkers and didn’t find a tea pot/kettle. There weren’t any papertowels left in the kitchen or cleaning spray. Thank you!
Dear KT, Thank you for your delightful 5-star review. In response to your “little things”: our goal is to accommodate as many of the needs/wishes/desires of our guests as possible, but in keeping with safety, sustainability and overall cost. All 4 of our properties on VRBO include full descriptions of what we provide and don’t provide. In the Hospitality section, made available to guests, under Kitchen/dishwasher, we clearly state: Automatic dishwashing pods provided AND liquid dish soap, scrubbing sponge, dish rag & dishtowels. Under Kitchen/Pantry items we state: Provided: napkins & (NO facial tissue, PAPER TOWELS, plastic wrap, aluminum foil, wax paper, ziploc or sandwich bags) S & P (NO additional spices, oils, vinegar, coffee, sugar, creamer). Sometimes those items are left behind by previous guests, but we do not provide them. In earlier years we provided a kettle in a couple of the houses but found guests would turn them on, forget and burn the bottoms out, risking a house fire. Boiling water in a normal pan isn’t as “romantic” or convenient as an actual kettle for pouring, but works and for whatever reason watched better than a traditional kettle (go figure). In closing, unless broken since the last time I was in the Rainier View Lodge, on the top shelf, right-hand corner of over the counter cabinets IS a large teapot with green, ivy leaves. All our houses have teapots, so I will check on my next visit to confirm that something disastrous hasn’t happened to the one in Rainier View Lodge (RVL). Actually, I think RVL even has a chocolate pot. Again, thank you for your review.
Great family gathering space!
Great house for a family get together! Baby friendly too! Had 1 minor issue that was qui kly resolved. Will definitely be back!
Perfect location and very welcoming accomodations!
We had a great experience at the lodge! Our family spent three days here just after Christmas. It was a quick 20 minute drive up to White Pass. The inside was very clean, spacious, and welcoming. Marilly was very gracious and responsive. It was the perfect spot for our family vacation!
warm comfortable cozy cabin
This has been our favorite cabin so far, and we have stayed in many in Packwood. We will try to come back soon! Thanks for the excellent communications.
Family Christmas at the mountain
We loved our stay at the Rainier View Lodge. We have a large family and ended up renting 4 houses that are all close to each other in the mountains. It worked our fantastic! We all gathered for meals at the lodge and had plenty of room for 20 of us for all of our meals. Each family had a house for sleeping which worked out great. We loved the large table and open living of this beautiful place. Thanks again to Marilly for helping me put all of this together.
We loved this house. So very clean and fully stocked with everything you need to cook. I also liked the detailed instructions that the owner provided - they were very helpful. We took advantage of the hot tub every night after being sore from hiking. I also tried out the sauna and really enjoyed it. We loved the large colored hot tub towels. The beds are comfortable and the dinning room table is beautiful. We spent many mornings and evenings on the back porch. Every day an elk herd visited us at the house! We even got to see some baby elk nurse. Sitting on the front and back decks watching the elk is a highlight of our trip. Since we visited during a heat wave - having central AC was key. During our stay, we hiked in Mt. Rainier, visited Mount Saint Helen and hiked Ape Cave. I highly recommend this house.
