About Marilly Morton
Fred, as a teacher, is a life time learner. His passion is family, reading and sports. Marilly has a passion for family, birds, photography and traveling, visiting Nicaragua, The Netherlands, Germany & Italy. We both visited Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, Switzerland, Aruba, Vancouver Island & Victoria BC, and Fred managed a sailing trip to Belize with our oldest son. To keep the international flavor in our home, we hosted exchange students including: two German, two Japanese, two Koreans, and one Colombian. Besides our four vacation rentals, we own 2 Subway stores (in Portland, OR).
Marilly Morton purchased this Lodge in 2008
Why Marilly Morton chose Packwood
We love the mountains, and Packwood is very like Switzerland, only the mountains are smaller and farther apart. It is in the center of Gifford Pinchot Nat'l Forest, 7 miles from the southern entrance to Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park, and surround by Tatoosh, William O Douglass, and Goat Rocks Wilderness areas. There is a constant flow of wildlife including: elk, coyotes, raccoon, fox, black bear, bald eagles, beaver and more, and year round recreational activities.
What makes this Lodge unique
I enjoy being outside in the hot tub under a star studded sky with wood smoke on the wind from the fire pit while elk pass by, what a combination! Throwing snowballs from the hot tub in the midst of winter made for a great memory and photo shoot. Indoors offers every comfort from home and even more with a far infrared sauna to soothe tired muscles. I never tire of watching the many faces of Mt. Rainier or the elk and birds at the Lodge. It's a great place for dreaming!

Mt Rainier vacation
This is a fantastic house for families or large groups. Lots of couches, a massive dining room table, outdoor grill, We utilized the great room and kitchen extensively. Perfect set-up for coming back to relax after a hard day of hiking and park exploring. The kids especially loved the fire pit and smores! I would absolutely stay here again.
We had 3 couples stay in the house! Our favorite party was the kitchen and sitting area with a view of Mt.Rainer! The house was clean and we had plenty of room! Marilly was great to deal with all of our questions. It was great being so close to town!
My husband and I invited a group of family and friends to join us for hiking in Mount Rainier NP. We loved the big kitchen table and the view from the great room. This location is fairly equidistant between Longmire, Paradise, and Sunrise. It rained almost every day so we were glad to have the sauna! The hot tub had some plant matter in it when we arrived, but Marilly had it taken care of right away. She was very responsive to communication, and instructions were very clear. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Our favorite property in Packwood
Clean, comfortable, and convenient location near town.
It is always a treat to host Carol and Crew for the SCCA races every year. Our properties are renting earlier & earlier, so be sure to take that into account for specific dates.
Mt Rainer Getaway
The property was perfect for our Mt Rainier vacation. There were 6 adults on our party and we had plenty of room. The common area with kitchen and living room is the focal point of the house and has a wonderful view and a very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. Plenty of elk wandered across the property in the evenings. There is plenty of parking space.
The property was as-advertised and the pictures are accurate. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes and cooking utensils. The owner was very responsive to the questions we had prior to our stay and made us feel welcome. All-in-all it was an excellent experience and we would highly recommend the house for anyone visiting the park.
As an added bonus there is a very good local coffee house in Packwood (we brought home a couple of pounds of their coffee) as well as a very nice craft brewery.
The view was amazing!
Everything was simple and easy. Close to the entrance to Mt Rainier and the town had everything we needed (gas, groceries and restaurants).
