Marilly Morton purchased this lodge in 2008
We love the mountains, and Packwood is very like Switzerland, only the mountains are smaller and farther apart. It is in the center of Gifford Pinchot Nat'l Forest, 7 miles from the southern entrance to Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park, and surround by Tatoosh, William O Douglass, and Goat Rocks Wilderness areas. There is a constant flow of wildlife including: elk, coyotes, raccoon, fox, black bear, bald eagles, beaver and more, and year round recreational activities.
I enjoy being outside in the hot tub under a star studded sky with wood smoke on the wind from the fire pit while elk pass by, what a combination! Throwing snowballs from the hot tub in the midst of winter made for a great memory and photo shoot. Indoors offers every comfort from home and even more with a far infrared sauna to soothe tired muscles. I never tire of watching the many faces of Mt. Rainier or the elk and birds at the Lodge. It's a great place for dreaming!
Just wanted to say a BIG THANKS for a wonderful weekend with our entire family!! The place was in tip-top condition and more than we were expecting. The place was perfect for us with sleeping, eating (love the BIG table), relaxing...the view and weather couldn't have been better!!
We went on day hikes in the area, found our church services in Morton for Sunday (we are Mormon) and appreciated your generous hospitality to open such a lovely home for us to enjoy together.
We loved the campfires at night and visiting around them. It was nice to have all 6 of our children gathered around the campfire and enjoy conversations and look into all their faces...truly a beautiful sight!!
Anyway, I don't know if you get to hear from your renters, but we absolutely LOVED our time there and say THANKS for having us!!
Wonderful home in the mountains with a beautiful view that is exactly as advertised. Lots of room and nicely furnished and decorated. There was a cozy fireplace to add extra warmth after hot tubbing in the snow. Ski area is a short drive and there are hills right at the house to sled on. Would definitely recommend this place for a family vacation.
The Beautiful Rainier Lodge was big, inviting, comfortable & fun. We went up to White Pass, checked it out...
I snowed overnight one night up to 8inches, we went sledding, built a ET Snowman, saw Elk.
I really enjoyed the peace & quite. All of us got WIFI on our phones. Watched movies, read books, played alot of games.
During the summer I am sure there is alot of things to do.
We returned to RainierView Lodge recently. When I asked my family what they wanted to do for Thanksgiving, they said "Go where we went last year." So we did just that and it was just as wonderful. The weather was overcast so we weren't able to enjoy the glorious view of Mt. Rainier but we still had a blast. We drove about 10 miles up the road and went sledding at White's Pass and went on a short hike in the snow covered woods to Dog Lake. It was great to have such a warm and welcoming place to which we could return. Time in the hot tub was a daily must. As was the case last year, RVL met and exceeded our expectations. We are already looking forward to a stay in 2017.
What an amazing experience with good friends. Imaculate lodge, georgeous setting and view of Mt. Raineer, Unbelievable beauty experienced on hiking, nose to nose with Elk wondering through town, and to experience all this with wonderful freinds! It doesn't get any better.
I was invited with a group of friends for a weekend retreat. I didn't know what to expect, but I was blown away by the accommodations. The drive from Portland to Backwood was lovely, especially scenic in the beginning of fall. The lodge has an incredible view of Mt. Rainier. The weekend was so refreshing - we were able to enjoy a bonfire, a healing infared spa, comfy beds, a kitchen full of the right materials for cooking and a cozy comfortable atmosphere. The house was immaculately clean and spacious. I can't wait for my next visit. It is one of my new favorite spots. Plus, it's super close to many hikes - you have the benefit of privacy in the woods by the mountains and the convinces of the local town and outdoor adventures. 1000 thank you's Marilly and Fred!
We arrived on Friday night and checked out on Sunday. There was a large group of us so we used three houses. We did our meals together in the big house. The kitchen was fully stocked and convienient to use. The beds were comfy. Lots of hot water. We even had an infra red sauna in the master bath. The owners were very gracious and paid attention to every detail. Extremely clean and comfortable. We went on a hike to see the falls just down the road. It was beautiful. We also used the fire pit in the backyard one evening. There was plenty of room for our large group to sit around the fire. Overall it was an amazing experience. I would recommend any of these houses to friends.
