About Marilly Morton
Fred, as a teacher, is a life time learner. His passion is family, reading and sports. Marilly has a passion for family, birds, photography and traveling, visiting Nicaragua, The Netherlands, Germany & Italy. We both visited Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, Switzerland, Aruba, Vancouver Island & Victoria BC, and Fred managed a sailing trip to Belize with our oldest son. To keep the international flavor in our home, we hosted exchange students including: two German, two Japanese, two Koreans, and one Colombian. Besides our four vacation rentals, we own 2 Subway stores (in Portland, OR).
Marilly Morton purchased this Lodge in 2008
Why Marilly Morton chose Packwood
We love the mountains, and Packwood is very like Switzerland, only the mountains are smaller and farther apart. It is in the center of Gifford Pinchot Nat'l Forest, 7 miles from the southern entrance to Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park, and surround by Tatoosh, William O Douglass, and Goat Rocks Wilderness areas. There is a constant flow of wildlife including: elk, coyotes, raccoon, fox, black bear, bald eagles, beaver and more, and year round recreational activities.
What makes this Lodge unique
I enjoy being outside in the hot tub under a star studded sky with wood smoke on the wind from the fire pit while elk pass by, what a combination! Throwing snowballs from the hot tub in the midst of winter made for a great memory and photo shoot. Indoors offers every comfort from home and even more with a far infrared sauna to soothe tired muscles. I never tire of watching the many faces of Mt. Rainier or the elk and birds at the Lodge. It's a great place for dreaming!

Shangri-La at Rainier
Five dear friends from Shasta, Lopez Island and Everett searched for a welcoming home in Packwood to rent, carefully looking at reviews and the different merits of each possible dwelling. We chose '' Beautiful Northwest Lodging'' , to Reunite and our expectations of the lodge were exceeded in comfort, care of hosts and beauty.
Everything we could possibly need had been accounted by our hosts. The living room furniture was comfortable, ample and arranged for lively conversation. It's hard to find a living room in a rental with lots of seating and the lodge had it. We marveled at the burl wood trims and expert carpentry. The dinning room table was perfect for our foodie nature and able to enjoy a large spread of food at one sitting. Everyone remarked on how comfortable the beds were and the deep sleeps by all . Nature surrounded us and it felt private and safe. Mount Rainier offered us spectacular views from the enormous picture window and the woods in the back pristine. Our party were remarking all the time there and for days after how wonderful this home supported our stay ! My favorite aspect of our stay and in a way life changing was the care of our hosts, Marilly and Fred. We appreciated their detailed rules, it set our mind at ease to know what they needed from us and we didn't need to guess at instructions or values. I was treated as mattering and in this busy world its a luxury to encounter this mind set. Thank you Marilly and Fred for our wonderful experience at your Lodge, we will be back ! with appreciation, Lee
Dear Lee, From start to finish, you were a pleasure to host. Very thoughtful and now gracious with your praise of the house, thank you!
Great location for the park. Great location away from the town. Great view of the elk herd. Very entertaining. We enjoyed the hot tub and the wonderful sauna. Quiet!
Our family enjoyed sharing the Labor Day weekend (and a hatchet) with your family. Let's do it again some time ;o)
Great location for Families
Great view and amenities. Would stay again!
Delighted to meet you and your family. Thank you for leaving the house in such nice condition. We hope you do come again!
Mt Rainier vacation
This is a fantastic house for families or large groups. Lots of couches, a massive dining room table, outdoor grill, We utilized the great room and kitchen extensively. Perfect set-up for coming back to relax after a hard day of hiking and park exploring. The kids especially loved the fire pit and smores! I would absolutely stay here again.
We had 3 couples stay in the house! Our favorite party was the kitchen and sitting area with a view of Mt.Rainer! The house was clean and we had plenty of room! Marilly was great to deal with all of our questions. It was great being so close to town!
My husband and I invited a group of family and friends to join us for hiking in Mount Rainier NP. We loved the big kitchen table and the view from the great room. This location is fairly equidistant between Longmire, Paradise, and Sunrise. It rained almost every day so we were glad to have the sauna! The hot tub had some plant matter in it when we arrived, but Marilly had it taken care of right away. She was very responsive to communication, and instructions were very clear. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.
