This magnificent custom designed home - The Sea Sanctuary - is situated just a hundred yards from the sand with 180 degree whitewater views. A seal colony can be found 1/2 mile to the south and exceptional tidepooling can be found within another 100 yards. A bike/walking trail runs along the ocean as well. Enjoy a solitary walk along the beach - in fact you could walk for miles and miles in secluded exploration of beach and sandy dunes. Radiant floor heat and a wood-burning fireplace can make this rental extra cozy in the winter. And the insulating concrete form construction keep the house pleasantly cool on warmer summer days. Elevated decks both front and rear allow for enjoyable outdoor living as well. A Jacuzzi-brand hot tub sits on the front deck from which you can watch and listen to the ocean's roar, see the pelicans glide by, and at night watch thousands upon thousands of stars.
The home provides a wonderful holding space for many kinds of groups including:
- friends looking for a place to get away to to have quality time hanging out, playing games or going on adventures
- multi-generational groups who need ease of beach access and easy outdoor distraction to help keep kids off their "devices."
- families looking for easy time together on holiday where great meals can be shared, board games can be played and easy relaxing outdoor time is readily available.
Please note that in the peak summer months, I strive to rent for full weeks Saturday to Saturday, offering a free night's stay in the process. If that schedule doesn't fit your needs, please send me a message to let me know of your specific interest and I'll respond quite quickly.
To take advantage of the great view, the main living area in the house is on the 2nd floor, including the master bedroom, kitchen, living room and den, all with gorgeous bamboo floors. A 5x7' loft in the living room accessible from a built in ladder is a great place to play a game of cards, relax with a book or have a private conversation. Kids always want to sleep up there on the carpeted floor, and adults sometimes do too! Directly under the loft is the window seat - the most popular spot in the house - where another guest can sleep quite comfortably if desired. The wall-mounted flat screen TV with Comcast cable services and an attached Roku device is in a smaller den attached to the living room. The double doors on the den close, keeping the viewing noise from infiltrating the peacefulness of the rest of the house. One or two people can sleep privately on the den's pull-out sofa sectional.
A gourmet custom granite and bamboo kitchen with double oven, All-Clad Cookware, Dishwasher, Kitchen Aid Mixer, Rice Cooker, VitaMix Blender, Nutri-Bullet, Slow Cooker, Pressure Cooker, Salad Spinner, Pizza stone, etc. and other appliances make cooking or baking a joy for small or larger groups.
Downstairs, you enter through the slate entry area to find a photography gallery/carpeted open yoga/exercise area which includes two futons for yet another sleeping spot. it's also a great place for kids to play if you want them to have their space separate from the rest of the group. The primary downstairs bedroom has a wonderful view facing out to the ocean. The Japanese-style tatami room, with a flooring of 2" thick traditional tatami mats serves as a wonderful bedroom as well. The sliding shoji screens with laminated rice paper close off the room and an additional sliding external curtain provides an extra degree of privacy.
The Sea Sanctuary is truly a beautiful home which can help to make your vacation by the sea very relaxing and extra memorable.
To sum up, there are many sleeping options:
- Bedroom - California king bed
- Den/TV room - Full-size pull-out sofa sleeper with extra topper padding - Sofa was purchased from Macy's but still not the most comfortable.
- Fireplace nook off the living room - queen futon w extra cushion topper, and regular couch (open area)
- Window seat - comfy sleeping for one (open area)
- Loft - 5' x 7' carpeted area can sleep a child or two on the floor. Reached by ladder.
- Bedroom - queen bed w memory foam topper
- Tatami Bedroom - queen bed
- Yoga/exercise/play area - queen sofa/futon w Extra cushion topper, single futon, and another folded up frameless futon stored under the single futon (open area)
The home is lived in for parts of the year by the owner, so please know that there are clothes in the master bedroom closet and some non-perishable food (very limited) remaining in the refrigerator. The benefit from this is that the kitchen is extremely well stocked and the owners step-in pantry (with 2 full shelves kept clear for your use) has items which might prove useful to you if you need a pinch of this or that in preparation of your own gourmet meals.
A lot of love and care has gone into the design and construction of this wonderful home.

About Ted Seymour
Many interests including writing, photography, travel, fermentation, website development, and healthy food preparation. I love spending time in the home myself too. Such a magical place to recharge, gather with people special to me, and stroll the ever changing beach.
Ted Seymour purchased this House in 2007
Why Ted Seymour chose Fort Bragg
I came to this area on a road trip in 1998 and rented a small home just behind the lot where this home is now located. I woke up in the morning and the view included a 'for-sale' sign for this land. I hadn't even been looking to buy something, but it was so beautiful here that I panicked and put in an offer that day. The next day, they accepted my offer and the rest is history. I personally designed the home and actually built it myself too, completing it in 2007. Oh happy day! It is simply a stunning location, very quiet, yet still near to town, endless views to the north and south.
What makes this House unique
Easy beach access - no cliffs to worry about slipping down. About 100 yards or so outside the front door and you are in the sand. The house is very well stocked and maintained as the owner lives in the home for part of the year.

Sea sanctuary is comfortable and well kept. Very clean!
My family came here to enjoy a short stay on the pacific coast. We enjoyed our stay very much. Everything was well kept and very clean. I knew Ted spent time there in his coastal home but was surprised at how much of his own stuff was there. Nevertheless we were very comfortable and enjoyed the lovely views. The first day was very foggy and so didn't get to enjoy the beach in front of the house much. Next day was beautiful and sunny but we had to pack up and leave. We were all disappointed we couldn't stay longer! We love Fort Bragg so hopefully we can return sometime!
Thank you Sonya, I look forward to your return as well. I take great pride in trying to clear out any clutter in the home for arriving guests - leaving multiple pantry shelves clear, clearing all personal papers and effects, cleaning out the refrigerator of all perishable foods, etc. Based on your feedback here, I've dug yet much deeper to offer a fully streamlined rental experience for arriving guests. Your feedback has been heard and is much appreciated.
Great property right on the beach.
What a great location! Right next to 10 mile beach and only a few minutes from Fort Bragg. The Sea Sanctuary is warm and inviting with artwork by the owner. Lots of comfy nooks to curl up and read a book while watching the waves. Kitchen was well stocked with gadgets of all kinds. The refrigerator though was crowded with leftover items. I would definitely stay at the Sea Sanctuary again. ThanksTed, for sharing your beautiful home with us.
Perfect location- very peaceful- will be returning 😎
Location was perfect out of the busy area yet close enough to everything...
It was a very nice house with a lot of space and all the amenities needed. Loved the hot tub too.
Amazing beach house on the north coast
Just far enough out of town to fully enjoy the peaceful coastal habitat and relax. Located on the bike path there is also plenty of exercise opportunities. The beach offers tide pools, soft black sand and plenty of driftwood for a bonfire.
Wonderful house - magnificent views but......
We have rented homes in this specific area for 25+ years and our recent stay at Sea Sanctuary was our first. On the surface it is a stunning house with the best views we have ever had. Spent our evenings sitting in the front window watching the sun go down. Unfortunately the house was not as clean as we are used to or expected given the rental rate. The upstairs main bathroom at first look appeared clean and neat but pulling back the shower curtain revealed lots of mildew around the tub and a shower curtain that was filthy. Having stayed in the area so much we are aware that the water can cause lots of stains but if that is what causes the shower curtain to look so filthy then for the price of the rental a new one should be provided for each new renter - they are not expensive. Honestly Holiday Inn Expresses have much cleaner bathrooms and showers. We are cooks and found the kitchen to be a fun place to cook - had everything we needed. Again cleanliness was lacking especially in the sink - it could have used a good scouring as well as the dishwasher - not only did it have a lot of grunge in it, it smelled. If the water is the culprit for the kitchen sink and dishwasher - not sure how this can be alleviated. A little clearer explanation of the recycling of what goes where would have been a big help as we are not from CA. We recycle in our hometown but differently and I am sure we got some things in the wrong bin.
When we rented Sea Sanctuary, Ted was very helpful in answering our questions and pleasant to work with. Will not say that we would not rent Sea Sanctuary again but would certainly be more assertive in our cleanliness expectations. The house lends itself to total relaxation and rest, very calming and the setting could not be more perfect.
Thanks for your comments Larry. I'm glad you and your wife enjoyed staying at the Sea Sanctuary and found that the home and oceanfront location provided for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. The shower liners have been replaced with high quality liners and new hooks which will make removal and washing/bleaching a regular part of our home preparation. My caretaker as well noticed the dishwasher after your stay and scrubbed it to a polish. Unfortunately it had slightly clogged with food particles. We always strive to offer a high level of cleanliness to our renters and very much appreciate your constructive feedback. Hope to have you back another time.
Glass Beach - in old days, the trash dump was in one spot on the ocean front. Now all that remains there are countless smooth pieces of glass! Many restaurants, great hiking, many beaches, great boutiques and spas. There is a great indoor public swimming facility in Fort Bragg (CV Starr Center), tennis courts, petanque courts, whale watching, seal colonies, migrating birds for great birdwatching. Horseback riding on the beach available near the home as well. The Skunk Train does tour rides out into the redwoods including an open air train car. And many more options for entertainment.
