This property is located in a rural setting surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery, waterfalls, and beautiful tropical gardens. Cuesta de Piedra is a quiet pueblo where our electric bill is hand delivered to our gate. International bird watching tours set up on the road to view the many birds found on and around our property. One of our recent guests spotted 87 species of birds just on our property (see complete list below). We are within easy walking distance of the Macho de Monte canyon and the drives to La Amistad and Volcan Baru National Parks is less than an hour.
Our guest suite is private, secure, and well appointed. Enter on the second level into a large living/dining/kitchen area. This level features a full self-catering kitchen, a full bath room, dining for four with a day bed that converts to a king or two twin beds, as well as a full size washer and dryer.. Also on this level is a private balcony that overlooks Volcan Baru.
The private balcony looks out onto a river valley headed by Volcan Baru, a beautiful 11,000+ foot tall volcano and the highest point in Panama. There is a custom built spiral stair that takes you down to a bedroom with queen bed, full bath room, and a private deck. There is a gated entry and covered parking for one vehicle.

About Lynn and Jerry Longbons
We moved to this area in 2006 from the mountains of Western Colorado and now share it with our four dogs and one cat, as well as a myriad of resident birds. We spend time gardening, socializing with other gringos in the area, hiking, biking and beach combing and boogie boarding at nearby Playa la Barqueta (and, of course, feeding the birds).
Lynn and Jerry Longbons purchased this Townhome in 2006
Why Lynn and Jerry Longbons chose Bugaba
We purchased in this location because of it's proximity to outdoor activities here in Cuesta de Piedra as well as the nearby rainforests and beaches. It's a temperate climate that is warm during the day and cool enough to need a light blanket for sleeping at night. We do not receive the strong winds that affect both Volcan and Boquete during our Summer months.
What makes this Townhome unique
We are fortunate to have mostly cows for neighbors and incredible bird watching almost every day. Our Panamanian neighbors are friendly and this area is clean and well maintained. The water is potable from the faucet and there is plenty of it.

Wonderful stay in Volcan
Paradise just begins to describe this gem in the Volcan area. The apartment is a charming open floor plan with a loft and living area and a bedroom below. It comes well equipped and the beds are very comfortable, even the day bed upstairs which can be made into a king bed or two twins. The view from the apartment is spectacular with a view of the volcano and a patio both upstairs and down from which to enjoy the beauty. We were four adults and were very comfortable. We were able to see many different and gorgeous birds, a highlight of our time there. But perhaps what we enjoyed most about our experience were the owners, Jerry and Lynn, along with their three dogs. They are very gracious and accommodating and did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable. Having lived in this area for several years they were very knowledgeable about the area and gave us lots of pointers of where to go and how best to take advantage of our short stay.
Birders paradise indeed!
A wonderful private getaway that is a perfect place to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding area. The apartment is comfortable and has ample space to just relax, too. The kitchen is totally equipped, so cooking is made easy, and if you like to watch and listen to birds this is the place. Lynn and Jerry are excellent hosts!
It was so nice to host you two, but we didn't see a lot of relaxing going on. You were busy! We're happy that the apartment was comfortable and met your needs. Come back any time!
Nice & relaxing
Very friendly owners who will inform you on everything you need. Amazing apartment in a peaceful environment. Waking up from the sound of the many birds is very nice.
We visited after a week of hiking and diving, so the warm shower and washing & drying facilities were more than welcome.
Only downside is that we could not stay longer as we were bound to go home.
Great Area, Great Appartment, Great Hosts
We stayed nine days in the lovely appartment on the nice and big property of Lynn and Jerry.
Ever helpfull and friendly hosts, lovely garden and great birdwatching area all around. Fantastic to sit on the balcony look and listen to the birds. We saw Toucans nearly every day and a lot of other birds. The appartment is clean and spacy and has everything. We really enjoyed our stay every minute! Thanks a lot again Lynn and Jerry!!
We were so pleased to have you as guests and are happy that you enjoyed yourselves in our little corner of the world. As we are without the seasonal high winds found in Volcan and Boquete it is peaceful here and very quiet. Thank you so much for taking the time to write your review and we hope you had a pleasant trip home.
Amazing Retreat, Amazing Hosts!
Jerry & Lynn were by far the best hosts of a VRBO we have ever met, and the apartment, adjacent to their own home, was the best accommodations we have ever experienced.
We saw an amazing array of highlights in the week we stayed, and their kind guidance and help made it all possible. We enjoyed the hiking, the birdwatching, and even driving through the area on the narrow, windy, and steep roads always providing picturesque views!
The two-level apartment was very spacious and tastefully decorated highlighting both Lynn and Jerry's handiwork. It was great for each of us to have our own bathroom! Their attention to all the various details of what we might need really made us feel looked after. The kitchen was fully equipped, and there were lots of towels and cleaning supplies, including laundry soap. They even provided us with a fanny pack filled with dog biscuits so we quickly became their dogs new best friends! The fantastic property is a destination in itself, with plentiful birds and mountain views galore. We will definitely recommend this getaway to friends and family, and may soon return ourselves!!
We truly enjoyed hosting these two wonderful people and wish they could have stayed longer. The dogs keep going to the apartment door looking for them, it was four paws up all around. They went all over our area to explore the hiking and bird watching experiences available near and far and we loved hearing about their travels at the end of the day.
Our ten day stay at Birders Paradise was a perfect way to end our time in Panama. Apartment is very well set up with awesome view of Baru Volcano and birds from upstairs deck. Location is peaceful with no wind and very clean. Great bed! Gerry and Lynn are super hosts-very informative. Saw so many amazing birds at the 5:00 feeding. Thanks to Gerry for taking our daughter through the gorge. Was a highlight of her visit.
It was truly a pleasure to host this family. We enjoyed their company so much and had a great time in the Macho de Monte Canyon. We felt very lucky to be able to spend time with them and introduce them to our little part of the world.
From David airport: exit left from airport and go 3.4 km, turn left at the stop light and drive past McDonalds to the next stop light where you will turn left onto the Pan-American highway. Stay on this road for about 21 km to the town of Concepcion where you will turn right onto the Via Volcan. Look for the green sign indicating 'Volcan'. Drive another 20km to Cuesta de Piedra and turn right. Just before you get to the turn for Cuesta de Piedra the road will curve to the left and you will see a church on a hill surrounded by radio towers straight ahead. You will pass some very brightly colored houses on your right and there will be a road that t's off to the right. Turn there and go until just past the 2K marker on the right side of the road, our house is entered at the drive just past this marker, turning to your left. There will be a large black iron gate and a sign 'Residencia Longbons'. You're there! Coming from Boquete you will drive towards David and turn right at the Terpel gas station onto the new road to Volcan. Follow the signs to Cuesta de Piedra and notice that there are kilometer markers along the side of the road. Our place is located on the right just before the 2 kilometer marker. You'll see a cream colored column and that marks our driveway. It's a sharp turn coming from that direction so you'll need to swing wide to make the turn. Honk or use the intercom and we'll open the gate.
