About Mark Browning
We loved Andermatt as soon as we saw it, particularly the Old Village with its cobbled streets and wooden houses. Since we first arrived, much has changed - the new Chedi hotel has added glamour and new ski lifts and runs have created the biggest ski area in central Switzerland. Yet the Old Village retains its charm. We love coming here all the year round - hiking in summer and autumn, skiing in winter, it is our home from home.
Why Mark Browning chose Andermatt
You could not find a better location than Holzgasse, situated right in the middle of Old Andermatt. From us, you can walk to the shops, walk to the ski lift, walk to all of the town's restaurants, and even ski in from the Talabfahrt run.

A perfect holiday apartment
From our first contact with the owners we felt very comfortable. They answered with much patience all our questions, and sent us ample information on the apartment, the location and its surroundings. We were welcomed by Mrs. Fausch, who had cleaned the apartment to a spotless state, and gave us all the practical information we needed concerning the garage, garbage/recycling, use of kitchen appliances etc. The apartment is very modern, fully equipped with external sunscreens, door opener with monitor, dimmable lighting, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave oven, freezer... everything you possibly could wish or need. Moreover all kinds of maintenance products and stuff like sugar, salt, pepper etc. were available. There are about 15 restaurants within walking distance (max. 10'); supermarket, bakery and butchery at 5' on foot. The apartment is situated on the first floor at the backside of the building, so that you don't hear any street noise (and all windows are very well isolated). Summarized: this apartment is just... perfect. Therefore I rated it without any hesitation 5 stars.
Andermatt enjoys excellent accessibility from every direction, with superb national and international transportation links (by car or by train). It is located in a preferred geographical setting, in the heart of Switzerland and the whole Alpine region, 1 ½ hours off Zurich and Milan.
Andermatt is a charming village in the heart of the Swiss Alps that has been welcoming visitors for more than a century. This unspoilt locale embodies the essence and incomparable beauty of Switzerland, with flowering meadows in summer and snow-covered mountains in winter.
Nestled in Urserental at the junction of 4 cantons and 3 passes, Andermatt is surrounded by untouched Alpine scenery. From high peaks and deep gorges, to wild waterfalls and quiet lakes, the diverse landscape of the Gotthard region is truly unique. Four major rivers originate in the Gotthard region - the Rhine, the Rhone the Reuss and the Ticino.
Adventurers can explore ice glaciers and some of the great Alpine passes, plus a wide range of sport and leisure activities. Whether you want to relax or be active, visitors will find something to divert them all year round. Further afield, many attractions are within close reach, making it an excellent destination for culture lovers, sports enthusiasts and families. The Glacier Express that runs between Zermatt and St Moritz, makes a stop in Andermatt and promises a memorable train ride through the breath-taking Alpine countryside.
Thanks to the destination’s high altitude and reliable snow fall, the region is perfect for all kinds of winter sports; Alpine skiing, snowboarding, freeride, cross country, biathlon, ice skating, curling and many more.
