About Andrea

My mother moved to the Shenandoah Valley in 1969 with 3 children and 1 one the way. I was the one on the way. In the fall of 1970, My Uncle Joe, Aunt Jackie and my mother, Nancy, began Shenandoah River Outfitters with two old aluminum canoes and a dream.

I started Mountain Whisper Cabins in 2005 after purchasing the cabin I grew up in and settling back into the Valley.

Why Andrea chose Shenandoah Valley

My, Uncle Joe, wrote, “[Shenandoah] I dipped my paddle in your life and you refreshed me.” The valley is a place to fill your soul in all the seasons, and I would like to share it with you.

What makes this cabin unique

The Mountain Whisper Cabin is Nestled Within Walking Distance To The Legendary Shenandoah River and the Shenandoah River Outfitters.

Nice weekend retreat

  • 4 of 5

Me and a girlfriend came here for a weekend trip. It was easy to find and had everything we needed. The kitchen had supplies including a coffee maker and coffee, which was nice. The bedrooms were on separate sides to give us some nice privacy. I loved the peaceful closed in porch and we used the fire pit outside at night. The bathrooms were nice and clean and I was surprised there was a washer and dryer if we needed!

I also liked that it was dog friendly for an extra $20/night fee. That was pricey in my opinion but I can understand, as some people's dogs aren't well behaved.

The only small things that weren't perfect, is that there was some kind of beeping by the fireplace so when we sat at the dining room table to eat or work on our laptops, it was kinda annoying and we couldn't figure out what it was from or how to stop it. Next, there wasn't anywhere to walk or go for a run right from the cabin. But there are trails nearby you can drive to and the views on the drives were pretty to see.

We had a great weekend, there's so much stuff to do and explore in the area. I'm glad I had the opportunity to stay here before leaving the area permanently.

Owner's Response: Glad you had a great weekend at the cabin and found it to be very clean. Regarding the beeping, it was the kitchen clock battery going low. In the future, if you stay again, please call when there is a problem with the cabin. I live close by and would have come by to remedy the situation. There are trails within 5 minutes in the GW National Forest. Also, there is a trail to the river behind the outfitters and a dirt road near by for running or walking. I enjoy running them often. Hope you can return in the future. Andrea

Nice updated cabin with great amenities within walking distance of tubing!

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I had a great weekend at the Mountain Whisper cabin. The cabin has a great layout, very nice kitchen, clean hot tub, and nice screened in porch to keep the bugs away. Overall, it had all the amenities we wanted and we could walk to the river outfitters for our tubing trip, which was perfect. We all agreed we would gladly stay there again!

Nice cozy cabin

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I went for the weekend and it was a very nice cabin in good shape. It was easily accessible and was very comfortable. It was a nice central location for several key activities including Luray Caverns and the local wineries. The hot tub on the deck was also great.

There is not a tremendous amount of space between this and other cabins. Additionally, the other side of the street has a better view of the mountains. Otherwise, it was a great choice for us.

Cabin in the Woods - Relaxing Memorial Day Getaway

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I along with our dog enjoyed a peaceful and relaxing weekend at Mountain Whisper Cabin over the Memorial Day holiday. The cabin was was well located...close to hiking trails, the river and not far from town for conveniences. We especially enjoyed the screened-in porch where we'd spend the mornings sipping coffee and eating breakfast. While neighboring cabins were close enough that we could hear other people talking, it was comforting knowing that others were nearby. We never got around to using the hot tub or the fire pit although I'm not sure I'd want to sit outside....lots of bugs/mosquitos (expected, of course, when you're in the woods). My only suggestion would be to provide wifi. While the whole reason for us renting the cabin was to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, it would've been nice to have wifi to stream music on our phones without having to do it over cellular coverage which was sketchy out there. Overall, we had a really good time and will likely be back.

Owner's Response: Glad to hear you enjoyed the peaceful Mountain Whisper Cabin. It is a very special place to me. It is my childhood home. The wifi carrier, Century Link, does not provide service in the area. I will consider adding wifi when it becomes an option. The cabin is private without being secluded. Most my customers like the idea of other folks nearby in the country. Thank you again and I look forward to having you back in the future. Andrea

Nice hot tub. not private

  • 3 of 5

The cabin is situated in a community of homeowners and other cabin rentals. So when you're sitting in the hot tub one of you is as it appears in the picture however, the other view just to the right is of a very large house not too far away but in full view of the hot tub. Looking far to the left from the hot tub there is another house. The proximity to other homes was disturbing to us because of the noise factor. The folks renting or living in the house to the left were up until 3 o'clock in the morning having a loud party. The homeowners to the right of us were playing very loud music until odd hours of the night.

The cabin itself is nice but it could use a couple basic improvements. We were advised after booking the reservation to bring our own linens and towels. A couple basic things would make this cabin nicer. That would include simple bathmats in the shower and in the bathroom to avoid slipping. A couple basic towels would be nice in the bathrooms. Maybe a rug in the main living room. And the installation of Wi-Fi.

The rear enclosed balcony is very nice. you can be out there in the rain and not get wet you can be out there in the heat and not get too hot and not be bothered by bugs. The fire pit was a nice relaxing experience in the evening.

Overall most of what we found discouraging with the cabin was the external noise factor which is of no fault of the owner.

We did appreciate the fact that our Pet was allowed to attend this short vacation with us.

Owner's Response: Mountain Whisper Cabins prides itself in providing a beautiful, comfortable and clean cabin. Linens are provided by request for a fee, or you are welcome to bring your own. The cabin is well appointed, well equipped, very clean and comfortable. Please read all the wonderful reviews below. I personally work very hard to provide a pleasant experience for my guest. The cabin is nestled in the woods on 2 acres in a private community with other cabin rentals nearby. The cabin is private but not secluded. It is a great location to unwind, kick back and enjoy the country.

Getaway with 16 year old grandson

  • 5 of 5

This past week I spent four days in Mountain Whisper with my 16 year old grandson. He is high functioning asperger. We were quite pleased with our experience. The cabin was an excellent base camp as we fished, took the Luray Cavern tour, hiked, and found isolated areas to teach him how to shoot using my pellet rifle. Shenandoah River Outfitters is just down the hill from the cabin and the variety of their rentals should support most desires to spend time on the river. The cabin was immaculate when we arrived and the kitchen was very well stocked with eating and cooking utensils. It was not what I would have expected in a cabin - the appliances were in excellent condition - well honestly, i don't know if the stove worked because as two guys we didn't cook much indoors, but the microwave and refrigerator were excellent. I have seen several reviews on various sites commenting on the bed being only "full" size. The smaller of the 3 bedrooms has a full size bed but the other beds are definitely queen size. I rate my experience as 5 stars, not because it is the best cabin I have ever stayed in but because the cabin was exactly what my grandson and I needed and it met all expectations based on the various website descriptions.

My grandson was especially happy having civilization (Walmart) relatively close by and he would recommend MIndi's for their chips and salsa.
