Cozy Condo but Needs TLC
Overall we enjoyed our stay in this Summit condo. It comfortably fit our party of 6 and we loved all the kitchen amenities that were available to us. However, there were a number of dysfunctions throughout the house left for us, that upon arrival, were unexpected. I will list them below:
-The spring on the front storm door was snapped and unhinged. The old part left hanging on the hooks in the front entry.
-The floating rack in the master bedroom next the TV was coming off the wall.
-The master bedroom TV was not connecting to any channels.
-The drawstring on the blinds in the master bedroom was broken, and would not allow for the blinds to be cinched or let down.
-The button the master bedroom jacuzzi was coming out of the socket.
-Brown gunk was coming out of the master bedroom jacuzzi when started.
-Light bulbs in the ceiling fan of the master bedroom were not only burnt out, but broken. The broken glass bulb and shards were left in the ceiling fan.
-Half of the outlets throughout the communal living space did not deliver charge.
-The storm door for the back porch was removed and left lying on the ground.
-Door knob for the porch on the back balcony needed to have been replaced. It was spotty/difficult to turn, and the nib on the handle that allows you to lock the knob was clearly stripped and dysfunctional.
-Half the faceplates for the thermostats were removed or missing.
-In the room with the bunk beds, one of us found some unusual small blood stains. The individual sleeping in that bed, inspected the corners and found what they felt to be evidence of a prior bedbug infestation. This individual has had to personally deal with an infestation in their home before, and felt fairly confident in his inspection.
Pictures for most all of these issues are available upon request.
Again - overall we loved the spaciousness of the condo, and the convenience it provided us being on top of the mountain. We additionally appreciated the generosity of the property owner in allowing us a late check-out on our last day. But only a couple of the problems listed above were attended to after calling maintenance the night of our arrival. Most of them should have been addressed before our arrival, especially considering the rent and associated cleaning fees.
I would stay in Summit again, but I would look at other mountaintop lodging options first.
Not good at all
There is so much I want to say about this experience I emailed the management company and asked for a partial refund , which I doubt that will happen . I am fixing to write everything on a review if they do not give me partial refund
OMG ....Rented this unit for a family and friends ski trip over Presidents Day weekend. My 12 year old daughter accidently hit and cracked an exterior window with a snow ball. Being the honest renters we are we reported it. 70 days later we get a bill from the property manager for $739.50 to fix the window. Good thing it wasn't something major as we would have had to take out a second mortgage on our home. You should see the itemized bill (it is hilarious).
We sincerely regret that Duff was not happy with the cost of repair of the window, and tried to explain to him the difficulties our contractor incurred. Our repair contractor had over ten hours in travel time, since he had to clean up the broken glass (mandated by the Home Owners Association), and then remove and replace the trim on both the interior and exterior of the window, just to remove the broken 3' x 4' window to take for repair (6 hrs. round trip driving). We are located on top of a mountain at a ski resort, in a remote area of West Virginia. They had to board the window for the period it was under repair.
Duff has called these expenses ridiculous, and I am sure it would be in a market that permitted a ten minute drive to a window repair shop, but unfortunately we are not permitted that luxury at Snowshoe Mountain.
This was an unfortunate accident, but regretfully, as a renter, you are responsible for damage.
We thank Duff for the kind words about the specific unit and the great time they had while staying there. At the time of this writing, it should be noted that we have not been compensated for the damages.
Awesome place to stay for a crowd!
I have stayed so many places at Snowshoe with my 3 kids and this so fat is the best! But this time I had 4 kids + 2 adults and it was perfect. The place has been nicely upgraded (better than I have experienced in Alleghany, Rimfire and Powder Monkey by far)! We had plenty of room for the 4 teens and the living area was perfect for a crowd with two couches and a loveseat. Dining was easy between the large table and bar, and the kitchen was fully stocked. I cooked for 6 several times and wanted for nothing.
Walking up to the Village was very close and easy in street shoes. Kids could safely go alone. The stairs were a bit challenging in ski boots but a shuttle came by very often so we hopped on that as needed.
For the price, you won't find a more spacious upgraded place at Snowshoe. The owner was soooo nice throughout the entire process and we were so thankful for the flexible late checkout on the last day to fit in a hearty Junction breakfast and a few more runs.
Look for us again, for sure!!!!
