My husband and I decided to celebrate our 20 year anniversary in the Keys. This being our first visit to the Keys, we knew we wanted to rent a boat to do some fishing during our trip. We researched to find the perfect place to stay and dock our boat for the week. The treehouse was absolutely perfect! We hardly even knew their were homes on both sides as the foliage provides the right amount of privacy to make you feel all alone. The dock was well maintained and perfect for our rental boat. The water and its beautiful inhabitants gave us such entertainment too! But Randy's home was absolutely lovely in every way and extremely clean. We flew in so we obviously did not bring much with us. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking and this was very important as my husband and I stayed in many nights cooking and eating what we caught earlier in the day. The bed....the bed was lovely. Probably the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in! True, you do hear the sound of traffic on Rte 1 but we read that in a prior review, so we were aware. The small market that is within walking distance of the house provided us with the little incidentals that we needed at the last minute. Randy was very personable, friendly and helpful. Even when we locked our keys in the house! I am so happy with our choice of renting Randy's home-I can't imagine a better place for our celebration- the Treehouse was absolutely perfect! We can't wait to go back!
Trailered down 2 motorcycles for day trips to Key West and Key Largo. Rented a 21 footer and kept it at the dock. Who could ask for anything more! Randy was superb and the accommodations were excellent. We enjoyed the sunsets the best sitting at the end of a fantastic dock! Shower was huge, bed was soft and very comfortable. Washer and dryer excellent. For our first week long trip to the keys we could not have picked a better place!!!!
Our visit to the Treehouse/Conch Key was outstanding in all aspects. Everything about the cottage was exactly as shown and more. Randy was extremely helpful, kept up with all emails in a very timely way and even dropped by to make sure everything was okay. The location, privacy and appearance were all great - the little store had basic supplies and Marathon was only 10 miles away with full grocery stores, restaurants, etc. The place was immaculate and completely stocked with kitchen equipment, very nice linens, good washer and dryer - basically all you need for a perfect getaway. We loved our coffee on the porch every morning and walking down to the dock to look into that crystal clear water to see what was there. We were visited the whole week by a giant red starfish, who stayed near the dock, and schools of beautiful parrotfish who seemed to live under the dock. Randy supplied fishing tackle, and the freezer downstairs was perfect for storing bait and chum. One of our favorite activities was being able to stroll down to the dock whenever we felt like it and fish - we caught spotted sea trout, a small permit, mangrove snapper. As everyone else has mentioned, the sunsets were spectacular. We did some offshore fishing out of Islamorada with our favorite captain Alex Adler and caught some great fish (which we brought back to the cottage for dinner). Another favorite outing was to Key West for the day. Both trips were just a short drive away. We can't wait to go back to this little slice of heaven!
Communication with Randy was superb from the very beginning. He responded to every email and question within a few hours of my contact. When we arrived at Conch Key, everything was in place just as described. The cabin was very comfortable, and in an excellent location for day trips to Key Largo and Key West. The marina had necessities like beer and ice, and limited groceries; it wasn't even a 2 minute walk to get there from the cabin. The washer and dryer worked very well - very clean - don't let the rust on the top concern you. Bring your own laundry soap; Randy doesn't provide it and rightly so. I brought some pods with me and it was very convenient. I would also suggest insect repellent; the mosquitoes were vicious - especially in the laundry room! We spent a lot of time on the porch and dock. The marine life around the dock was amazing; we saw a manatee, nurse sharks, horseshoe crabs, parrot fish, and a ray just to name a few things. The sunsets couldn't be beat from the dock - it is the longest dock on that side of the key so there was unfettered views from the dock chairs. We would easily stay there again and highly recommend the Conch Key Treehouse.
Randy’s little cottage was great for us! The place is super clean. The double shower with ceramic tile was like new condition, and did I mention clean? The dock off the back of house extends out for Excellent sunset views and to investigate the various fish and such that visit. We saw a Nurse shark that returned most early evenings. When we noticed that there were no wine glasses to be found, I gave Randy a call, and he apologized and said he had not noticed their absence and upon our return from the day’s activities a brand new box of wine glasses was on our doorstep to greet us. I would not hesitate to stay here again, and would definitely recommend this rental to our friends.
We loved the location, near enough to towns yet in a quiet neighborhood. Sombrero Reef is a must for diving or snorkeling!
In the interest of complete disclosure: a couple of very, very minor points. The laundry area is a bit funky, some rust on the outside of the machines, but they functioned well and really not a big deal. We had one of the two bathroom sinks that was in the process of repair and could not be used, but again a minor issue which would be fixed before you rented :-).
The landlord/owner Randy, was exceptionally pleasant, and helped make our stay a terrific memory. RENT THIS COTTAGE!
My wife and I have been vacationing in the keys together since 2005, always in a different location and usually with the kids. But the Treehouse has made it hard to think about going anywhere else. This is a perfect place for 2 or a small family. The pictures don’t do it justice. The only way to appreciate this place is to be there. Its private and quiet, the highway noise that someone mentioned, is so minimal you have to really try to hear it and what you could hear was relaxing to us being from the city. The sunset views from the dock with a frozen concoction in hand, unbelievable. I took some with me to Afghanistan they were that good (pictures, not the drinks). The house has a bait freezer downstairs and a cleaning table on the dock that is invaluable if you’re fishing. Docking the boat even at low tide was no problem (18 ft with 16in draft). The house is exceptionally well maintained and comfortable. The landscaping is classic Keys and well maintained. The island tempo is exactly what the Keys is all about, laid back and relaxed. The local fishermen are friendly and welcoming and there is nothing like seafood/lobster right off the boat and onto the grill. The local store/marina was as convenient as you could want for bait, last minute tackle, snacks and ice, 5 min on foot. We didn’t have a chance to eat at the restaurant but it was busy every night. They have a boat ramp at the store for visitors to use (small fee) and it 5 min around the island to the Treehouse dock. Access to the Bay and the ocean were perfect and we would choose one or the other based on weather conditions. Sea life right off the dock will keep you entertained as well. Randy is a very gracious host and professional in his business. He gave us some advice on places to eat in Marathon that were outstanding. He even offered us more time to hang out during severe weather at check out time, if that happens again, we will definitely sit tight, that was a mess! lol. There are many places to stay in the Keys, but after 8 years, this place is now our favorite and we are booking for 2013. We would certainly recommend this to our friends.
