A modest but charming and comfortable flat
As advertised, this apartment is in the heart of Trastevere -- but it's just a little off the beaten track, so you don't have to deal with the noise, crowds and cigarette smoke that you would with a place on a well-traveled street. We know, because we also spent a couple nights right on the Via Della Scalla, which has much higher traffic. So this is the best of both worlds: steps from all the action, but not right in the midst of it. This makes it possible to get a good night's sleep if you have an early start the next day! The apartment is modest but comfy, charming and a great value. The view from the window in the living room isn't quite as lovely as the pictures might suggest: it looks onto a small inner courtyard where people park bikes and store assorted items. The balcony is a little bit dingy with a view into a well-used courtyard overlooked by several buildings, complete with hanging laundry, etc. I don't mean these as harsh criticisms: this is a middle-class building, not a resort, and these are still nice amenities. Just bear this in mind if you are looking for picturesque panoramas, so you won't be disappointed! Overall, I give it a wholehearted recommendation!
Great location, but there are some drawbacks
The good parts: The location is absolutely perfect, and the apartment is big and clean. Trastevere has many good bars, restaurants, and lively nightlife. The balcony is a nice amenity, although a few cleaning supplies are kept out there which makes it a bit less attractive. It's also very quiet and peaceful because it's tucked away on a side street. The host, Chiara, is very sweet and responsive to messages.
The bad parts: I hesitate to criticize the apartment because Chiara was so nice in her emails. But I rely on reviews heavily, so I feel it's important to be completely honest about the good and bad aspects of a property. The bathroom is really poorly designed. The shower is tiny and enclosed with a curtain and a very low ledge, so that water gets everywhere on the bathroom floor and makes the floor slippery (there is also a step in the middle of the bathroom which adds to the danger). The shower is small so the curtain clings to your body the whole time, which feels a little unhygienic. The showerhead is not great either, the pressure is very strong and hard to control. There was also no hand soap -- maybe the cleaner just forgot to leave it, but we had to run out and buy our own. Finally, the apartment appears to be a full-time short term rental property -- that's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's something you should know as it feels more like a hotel than staying in a real home.
Overall I recommend it for the size, cleanliness, and location, but just be aware that the bathroom is not ideal.
Gute zentrale Lage, dennoch sehr ruhig.
Zentrale Lage in Trastevere
The mummy is in the heart of Trastevere Trastevere From: One of the most fascinating areas of Rome. Narrow streets, dozens of small restaurants (many of them are surprisingly good), craft shops, beautiful churches (Santa Maria in Trastevere and Santa Maria di Salle) and of course Villa Farnesina frescoes by Raphael and the impressive Botanical Garden. The street where the apartment is located is very Ruhrig.
