Location Type

  • RiverLisheen Castle offers a fantastic location for the angling enthusiast. The River Suir rises in the Devils Bit Mountains close to Lisheen Castle and flows through the limestone country of South Tipperary and North Waterford. Its physical characteristics provide an ideal habitat for salmon and trout. Grilse runs begin in late June and usually last through to the end of September, when the season ends. The river Suir has all the characteristics of a chalk stream and therefore produces trout in abundance ranging in size from 400g to 1kg. The large numbers present prosper because of the ideal nature of the habitat and the absence of any serious predators and lack of competition for food. The Suir is renowned as a dry-fly fishery. Access to the river is excellent. Visitors may purchase permits from any of the associations and most of the private fisheries on the river. The Salmon and Trout seasons on the River Suir opens on the 17th March and closes on the 30th September.
  • LakeVisitors to Lisheen Castle often take a day trip to visit the beautiful Lough Derg and River Shannon Estuary, enjoying a river cruise on board the Spirit Of Killaloe. The purpose built passenger riverboat will take you on the River Shannon's Premier Cruise by the twin towns of Killaloe County Clare and Ballina County Tipperary. The relaxing tour, which is accompanied by a captain and crew, cruises north along the River Shannon and Lough Derg. Learn how canal boats and steamboats once used these same calm waters in times gone by. The sightseeing top deck of the boat is ideal for getting the best view of the spectacular scenery and beautiful natural landscape of East Clare and County Tipperary.
  • MountainLisheen Castle is surrounded by mountains and hills and offers a range of hiking and walking options for the walking enthusiast such as: Devil’s Bit Hill Walk Visible from many of the windows of Lisheen Castle, the Devil’s Bit hillwalk brings the walker on a moderate effort 5km walk through sandy laneways, forestery tracks and hillside paths to enjoy amazing views across to the Galtee Mountains. Guided Group Hill Walks in Upperchurch, Co. Tipperary A selection of wonderful hillwalks are on offer from Upperchurch, only 27km from Lisheen Castle. These walks have been created to allow the walker to enjoy the wonderful countryside and untouched natural beauty of the area. Walks range from 2km to 6km looped walks. The Glen of Aherlow The Glen of Aherlow is a quiet country valley, secluded but not isolated. It stretches south of the famed town of Tipperary, through sixteen miles of unspoilt countryside affording some of the most breathtaking scenery.
  • RuralLisheen Castle’s location in North Tipperary provides a fantastic base for touring Ireland. As Lisheen Castle overlooks a patchwork quilt of green fields and distant mountains, it is easy to see why Ireland is known in the USA as the Land of Forty Shades of Green! While the castle is located in a scenic rural setting, it is only minutes from some of Ireland main motorways allowing for easy driving for those who chose to hire a car. Lisheen Castle is perfectly located for a touring vacation and also offers week long tailored itineraries visiting Ireland’s most popular historic, cultural and sporting attractions which have been personally chosen by the Everard family.
